I got mine with chorizo and I was expecting it to be crumbled but they were just big chorizo slices. I probably wouldn't get them again. Nachos: when the apple fell from the tree and Newton questioned why things fell straight down, and not sideways or upwards, nobody questioned his sanity. But when I try to explain to people that the way ingredients fall on a plate of nachos actually matters, people look at me like I'm nuts. Look at this. One look and you know the bottom layer is doomed. They were generous with the cheese, it even seeped through the bottom layer, but then they exiled the cilantro (why is it even on there?) to one side like it's trapped behind a mountain range. Then you got the salsa, sour cream and guac in plastic containers forming an aggressive and completely unnecessary alliance on its border. Why put plastic containers on top of the food to begin with. Im not being crazy, this is physics. None of the ingredients tasted like real food anyway. I don't know where New Haven gets its produce but it all tastes like it was 3D printed. I'm so glad we finally had the opportunity for a meal at Te Amo! This is definitely one of my new favorites for Mexican in New Haven. We found all of the food to be delicious, especially the queso and rice bowl. Generous sizes for the tacos with great happy hour and taco Tuesday deals. I had a disappointing service experience at Te Amo Tequila, despite genuinely enjoying their food. We came in late at night, about 30 minutes before the kitchen closed, fully aware of the timing and ready to order quickly so as not to inconvenience the staff. The restaurant and bar were still active, with other guests eating and drinking. Unfortunately, our server did not greet us or ask for our order when she approached the table. She stood there smiling without saying anything, which felt awkward, and we had to speak up first in order to place our order. Our drink preferences weren't taken into account, we weren't checked on during the meal, and at one point we had difficulty getting her attention while she was dancing and socializing with coworkers. When we asked for the check, it was dropped onto the table without a word and without stopping, which felt abrupt and unprofessional. That said, the food was excellent, as always, and that's what makes this experience especially disappointing. However, the level of service made me hesitant to return. While this may have been an isolated incident, service plays a big role in the overall experience, and unfortunately, this visit left a negative impression. read more

This is by far one of my favorite happy hour spots in New Haven. I can leave here happy and full paying $12 (tip and tax included). The servers are always so nice and attentive, from quick table service to making sure you have everything you need! I personally enjoy going on Taco Tuesday for their taco deal! I have tried all of the tacos and I would say I prefer the steak, but you can't go wrong with any of them. Updating this review to reflect an alarming deterioration in customer service since my very first visit. I was absolutely blown away by Te Amo when I first visited with a friend in May. Since then, my friends and I have been back several more times. The food is generally amazing each time I go and I recently tried the shrimp taco and loved it! The shrimp was juicy, crispy, and the sauce was flavorful. The service here unfortunately is inconsistent at best. During my most recent visit, the waiter tried to rush me and my friends out the door more than 3 times while we were eating and talking. The 3rd time he returned to my table to remind us that we need to leave, one of my friend still had a FULL DRINK that she had JUST ordered. We were ordering new items as we were seated at the table and weren't simply taking up space. We were polite, and hadn't even been seated as long as we have on previous occasions. It was such a turn off to be rushed like that while we're actively eating, drinking and putting in orders. In addition, simply requests were met with an odd sense of annoyance. I was really shocked and disappointed by how my friends and I were treated at the restaurant. Had a reservation before a show at College street music hall. Happy hour was until 7:00. We had margaritas, tacos and quesadillas. The service was excellent. We were so disappointed with our experience at Te Amo last night. One of our favorite happy hours in New Haven and we won't be returning. Took several minutes to be recognized by our server. BTW, the place was less than 40% full. She took our drink order and said she'd bring water right over. It took at least 10 minutes for a water pitcher and glasses to arrive. After more than 20 minutes, our drinks finally arrived. There had been 3 women behind the bar. Most of their time was spent talking instead of making drinks. Since it took so long, we ordered another round after the first round was set on the table. The server acknowledged the slowness of the first order and confirmed no changes to the next round. Another 20-30 minutes go by. Most of us have finished our first drinks. We ask our server why it's taking so long to get drinks (again, after watching the bartenders stand around). She got snarky and said they have a rule that they can't serve another round when you have drinks. We pointed out that our glasses were empty to which she says "they are being made". Another 5 minutes and we got our round 2. So, an hour for two rounds with the second round taking longer than the food! We grabbed the manager and tried to explain our frustration but he refused to hear the problem. Just kept saying we can't have two drinks in front of us. We kept trying to point out that we had NO drinks most of the time!!! The food was good but we were forced to pay a 20% tip for rude service (added to the bill automatically). We would've ordered another round of drinks but the frustration was too much. It was better to spend our money elsewhere. Neither us or any of our extended groups will ever be back. I would also note that 3 people at our table have extensive restaurant experience as servers, bartenders, and managers. read more

They have happy hour daily until 7. We ordered from that menu. We ordered the steak tacos, mango habanero chicken tacos & the bbq pernil quesadilla (oops, forgot to grab a pick). Everything tasted amazing! So much flavor in each dish, fresh ingredients! Prices were great! I ordered the jalapeño margarita without the chili rim. "Have you been to Te Amo?" was always the question and now i can say Yes. Well being a foodie, I wasn't very impressed. Being a drinker, it was amazing! The food: Steak Nachos ok. Pernil tacos ok. Plantains not really. Mushroom Quesadilla Yumm. Tres Leches Cake good. The food just lacked flavor for me. And when my friends seen I wasn't impressed, they said I should try the quesadilla, so I ordered mushroom quesadillas without sour cream and it was redemption for Te Amo! Potential is there! There are many good taco spots in New Haven, but Te Amo is definitely one of my favorites! Here's the scoop... The inside is pretty cool, with mostly high-top tables, as well as two bars with seating. The music is generally pretty loud, so I would not recommend it if you're looking for a quiet place to talk. On-street parking is available but usually hard to get, so I park in either the Temple or Crown Street Garage, both of which are only about a block away. Now onto the food and drink... I always order a house margarita on the rocks and it's delicious! They use fresh lime juice and you can definitely tell. I generally get the chips and traditional guacamole for an appetizer, which is really good. For my main meal, I always go for the Coconut Shrimp Tacos, which are topped with diced pineapple and a pina colada sauce... they are seriously delicious! One thing I've noticed with their tortillas is that they're a little flimsy and end up breaking open, but really it's not a big deal. I've never tried any of their desserts, as I usually walk a block over and go to Insomnia Cookies. The service had been good every time I've gone. I've gotten my food quickly and staff have been friendly. Overall a great place to visit when you're in New Haven! read more

The food was very sub par. Not a very authentic taste and the menu is very small. The rice tastes like basic rice from the store and the food is not very flavorful. The chicken is very salty. The only part that tasted good was the chips, salsa, and cheese dip. The margaritas were below average. They tasted very mixy and not very strong. The prices were higher than most places and they charge extra for everything. Chips and salsa is an up charge, extra salsa is an up charge, flavor in the margarita is an up charge (which they don't tell you up front). The only upside was that I went on margarita Monday, so margs were cheap. The service was very slow. We waited a long time for absolutely everything and the people were not friendly about it either. We asked for our check and then our waitress went on break before giving it to us. If this is your restaurant and you want to improve, here are some tips. First, do not charge for chips and salsa. That turns away a lot of customers at the door. Next, check for some more authentic recipes and take your time making the meals well. My husband and I frequent this restaurant several times a month when we want to unwind and enjoy a location with good vibes. Because of its open air plan with large open windows it's especially a great atmosphere when the weather is perfect. Food selection isn't big, but just what is needed when grabbing a drink or two. First of all I would give this place 0 stars if that was an option. We arrived there about 5 minutes before our reservation. We go up to the host desk mention we have a reservation and they put us in this claustrophobic alcove space that shouldn't even be part of the restaurant. As we hesitate to take these seats this waitress comes up to us with an attitude and says is there a problem? We kindly explain we would prefer any other table and again with an attitude she goes this is your table he saved for you but I guess you can ask the host and see what he says. We kindly ask the host for a new table and he goes well I have people waiting so you can go sit at the bar until a table open ups. So we sit at the bar for 20 minutes order margs from the bartender. Multiple other parties (without reservations) are coming in and getting sat before us. Then we kindly ask the host because I think he forgot if there's a table available for us. He then proceeds to point to a table that was ready and open the whole time! So we take our menus and margs over to our table. Another 20 minutes goes by no one comes over to take our order just basically ignoring us. The bartender comes over to give us our bill from the bar and says "you needed to check out before you got seated" and aggressively gave us our bill. After that last straw we decided to walk out and go somewhere else I have never been treated this poorly in my life. Rude staff, the food looked rushed and not even good quality. It's not just me after sharing my experience with my local friends in town they have also said the same things I did! They have really stepped up their game since the first two times I've visited. The service staff is far more knowledgeable than they were back in February and the vibe is more upscale lounge, while the prices remain very reasonable. The Honey Caesar threw me for a bit of a loop since I'm a purist when it comes to established recipes, but it worked out very nicely with the honey cutting through the slight bitterness of the romaine. It was delicious, will try again with Shrimp next time because I think this is a winner combo. What I truly loved, other than reasonably priced drinks were the Rice Bowls. Like holy crap. I've paid more than $18 at Pokemoto for a bowl loaded with mostly rice. And Pokemoto's was clearly just frozen mini shrimp tossed on top of half stale rice. All in all I think the owners really did a great job and invested a tremendous amount of work here. The food and the cocktails are priced very fairly during happy hour (not many places in CT have $6 Margs), and the service level has drastically improved in the past four months. I went in with my team from work for dessert. I had churros they were delicious. They put whipped cream on them; I would say no whipped cream next time. The whipped cream made two of them soft. I like my churros crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. The restaurant is cute and the employees were very friendly. There was music playing. The waiter took a picture for us.
