I had heard of this place for 3 years by Austin TX locals saying if you ever go near Atlanta TX that I had to try this place and wow is it everything and more!!! I was in town for training and I made this my lunch stop for the day. It is family owned and I felt adopted the moment I walked in the entry way! This is the standard that is Barbecue. Everything about it tells you it is made with a real passion for quality and consistency. The family; father, mother and daughter all put energy into making this a success. I grabbed a tray, cup, and utensils. Proceeded to try their lemonade which was fine on this hot day. The 3 meat platter was a no-brainer. The presentation of piled meats made my eyes drool. I had the brisket, ribs and sausage which came very generously portioned. I was in heaven. I also added the sides of scalloped potatoes, greens, and fried okra. They supplied a biscuit to top it all off! Let's just say if your still reading and not driving there then my writing has failed! The flavor is everything I had hoped for and more! I gorged myself and felt like a glutton albeit a happy one! :) Once I thought I could have no more the daughter delivered me a cobbler topped with ice cream and whipped cream with cherry! Oh my goodness! I have to say I truly love this place. My meal was beyond fantastic however the family and their passion for their craft really had me. That is something big business can not duplicate but rather poorly imitate. I'd eat here at least twice a week if I lived around town. This guy knows his meats and the family really knows how to make you feel welcome.

Ten stars. When the lady at the front counter tells you "these are the best ribs ya ever gonna have" or "it's the best XYZ you're ever gonna have." She means it---and she's right. This unsuspecting joint in Atlanta, Texas was a Yelp treasure find during our trip from Indiana to Houston. Upon entering, patrons snag a tray and work their way down the line of meats and sides like meatloaf, smoked chicken, sausage, ribs (truly the best you'll ever have), sliced beef, Mac and cheese (SO good), cowboy beans, green beans, scalloped potatoes and more. For dessert you'll find an array of cakes and pies made-in-house like coconut pie, strawberry cake and peach cobbler (option to add ice cream on top). They also make the rolls and cornbread in house. Be prepared to need a carry out box for this budget friendly and super tasty establishment. You'll easily find parking on site and enjoy the convenience of their I59 location. The best part of the entire experience was the warm hospitality of the owner, Tommy, and his staff/family. It was clear this business was chock full of locals and regulars who knew the owners and vice versa. Take note of the fun murals on all of the walls with celebrities and the staff depicted. Cannot recommend this business enough.

Definitely a hidden gem! We stopped in while passing through on our road trip. The staff is super friendly and everything there was delicious. Between my husband and I we tried the chicken, brisket and sausage with green beans and scalloped potatoes. Outstanding! The peach cobbler with a tower of ice cream, whipped cream and a cherry on top was the best I've ever had. Hubs had the chocolate cake and devoured it. Will definitely stop here again if we're in the area - worth a detour! read more

New to this area from outside Ft. Worth and desperate for restaurants as this area is the back ass of nowhere. The flip side is that if you like BBQ, NE Texas is what's up. Tommy's is right up there. Small, dive ish, but clean-grab a tray and place your order at the counter. Nicest people I've met here and that's saying something because EVERYBODY is nice here. Fantastic brisket, scalloped potatoes, and black eyed peas. Ask for the spicy sauce (it's not too spicy). Perfect sweet iced tea. I'll be back with my boo next time. read more

Badly disappointed in the Yelp contributors who gave this place 4-5 stars. For starters, the directions on Yelp were off by about 8 miles. Based on the reviews, however, I turned around and back tracked to get there. Now when I hear the word BBQ I expect the meat to have seen a smoker at some point. This meat never saw a smoker. They scooped it in to a plate, threw it in a microwave, drenched it in sauce, added a couple descent sides, over charged me, and told me to enjoy. The two ladies working there were GREAT, very friendly! The food on the other hand was not good at all. To all those who gave this place 4 and 5 stars....you really need to get out and learn what Texas BBQ really tastes like!! read more

What a charming experience. Delicious Texas Bbq, southern hospitality, and friendly service. I had the Brisket plate with Mac and cheese with greens. Would eat it again for dinner if they were open. Ole western movies on the Tv and a world class conversation with Tommy and His wife. I see why the locals love it. I Will be back. read more

So glad we chose to stop at Tommy's on our drive to MI from Houston. The food was delicious and the BBQ second to none. The ribs are so moist the meat falls right off the bone. The sides all tasted like they were made using recipes passed on through the generations. Tommy and his family were such gracious hosts that when we left, we felt like our family had grown! read more

Wonderful hospitality! It was packed the day we went, so there was a little bit of a wait. It is set up cafeteria style, so you pick up your food, pay and then sit down to eat. A local recommend the chicken spaghetti and it didn't disappoint. The brisket and greens were spot on! I am a bit of a barbecue sauce snob but it was very good. It was very warm that day, probably due to a bunch of people in the building. We did find a nice cool place to sit though! I really wish there was a changing table in the restroom. We also initially followed the directions on Yelp- don't do it- it will take you to a church downtown. I almost gave up and just went to a fast food place because I was starving! read more

The very best place to eat in the Atlanta area. The service is amazing. Tommy is a super nice man and he and his family do a great job of running the place. The food is delicious! My favorite is the meatloaf but EVERYTHING I have eaten is delicious. The sides and deserts are also out of this world. This is our favorite place to go after church on Sundays. read more

We enjoyed this local spot when in town for a few days. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Menu was huge, it was hard to decide. I was not disappointed with chicken fried steak and mashed potatoes, it was delicious. My husband loved the smothered steak. Kids meals were large portions, we had to get to go containers! Best southern food that I have ever tasted in an East Texas restaurant!! I loaded my plate with delicious, mouth-watering greens, scalloped potatoes, yams, baked mac-n-cheese and cucumber salad. The food was so delicious that I ate it in less than 10 minutes. Not only does the food taste almost heavenly, but the prices are reasonable, the place is incredibly clean and cozy, and the hospitality is superb. I would recommend this restaurant to any one passing through or in the area! This is definitely a restaurant one must try! read more
