These guys are hands down the best in the area. We recently used them to move in Hoboken and we couldn't be happier with our experience. The process started with Tommy visiting my apartment and giving me a quote, the quote was significantly less than other movers. On moving day, the four man moving team, made up of Frank, Julio, Johnny and Al, was right on time. They moved us quickly and were super friendly. They really looked out for our stuff. We have a dresser that had a nail sticking out of one of the legs that would have severely damaged our new hardwood floor. The guys identified the problem and came up with a solution on the spot. I used Tommy's crew after the recommendation of Brett S. They definitely impressed me. This is the 4th time I've moved in Hoboken and the first time using movers instead of Dad + Uhaul... Wellllll worth the $. They are a bargain too! They told me they would be bringing 3 guys and it would take 4 hours. They brought 6 guys inculding Tommy and it took them just under 3. They were great! They charge an hourly rate with a 3 hour minimum... 4 guys showed up and got right to it. They moved me out of a 5th floor walk up and into a 2nd floor walk up in just under 3 hours. I've moved 21 times so I recognize when a company does a good job. My belongings were packed into the truck with care, they used blankets with my furniture to ensure no damage and everything was perfect when it was unpacked. The crew was very polite, professional and easy to work with, even offering to rearrange my furniture if I needed help. I'd recommend them to anyone in need of movers. read more

They did a pretty great job overall. They had a crew of 5 including Tommy supervising. Granted it was an easy move, they got it done in 2.5 hours and the price that was quoted was what I paid. The movers were characters...maybe a little rough around the edges, but they were all friendly and took care of us. Only a couple of reasons why not 5 stars -A couple of minor breaks for pantry kitchen type items, the could have handled the boxes with a little bit more care. -Sheets they wrapped the furniture in were pretty dirty, they could certainly improve there. -Update the website! The address on there isn't the actual address (Yelp's is correct though) and their little office is only open until 3. Just a couple of minor things that they could fix up to really make it a 5 star experience. I will be more than happy to use them again and would recommend them if you're moving in/out of Hoboken. read more

Tommy's Moving was great. They gave me a quote over the phone which turned out to be exactly what they said it would be. They showed up on time and everything made it safely to my new place. The movers were very nice and professional. The only downside was that I had to agree to a 3 hour minimum, when they finished the entire process in 1 hour 20 minutes. They were on time, and came with everything I needed--tie downs, blankets, etc. It was also very affordable, especially since they completed the job even quicker than allotted. As everyone knows, moving is possibly one of the worst processes to have to go through and my track record with moving has been horrendous, until I smartened up and used Tommy's Moving. The crew, (Lucius, Albie, John and Gary) were the nicest, most helpful and accommodating group of guys. They showed up on time and had me moved in under two hours. They even suggested furniture placement and moved pieces around for me to get a better feel of where a piece would look best. I have not one compliant about these guys and the company. Tommy's Moving provided a spot on quote for delivery and price. His quote was comparable in price for 4 guys on the job but his estimated time was 2 hours less then other Hoboken Movers. The movers got everything done with minutes to spare! They were super careful with all furniture and were more then happy to move anything into other rooms etc if it was placed in the wrong spot. My husband and I found out about Tommy's because they are located on the same street as our apartment and his guys were always so friendly when we saw them outside. I read the other Yelp reviews when we were selling our apartment and moving, and was strongly encouraged by the reviews I found on them. Tommy himself came over to do the estimate and made a point of saying that they best thing he can do for his company is to be honest, which I appreciated. We paid for them to pack us up, as I was 7.5mo pregnant. The quote for them packing us and moving us was still significantly cheaper than when my husband and I used a global moving company to simply move us from NYC to Hoboken. The guys were all GREAT, super friendly and respectful, and quick with the entire move. The charge was exactly what Tommy quoted us, despite a delay caused by our new rental building's mix up. They were worth every penny and more! Really could not recommend a better moving company and if/when we move out of Hoboken, we plan to use them again. read more

Beyond excellent! Came on time, were very polite and scoped out their plan before starting. I had a 3 bed room apartment that we were moving to a house 40 minutes away. We were estimated 8 hours but finished in 6 (because they were non-stop working). They're very efficient, so don't worry about their hourly rate. My apartment was on the third floor, and I had a VERY heavy piece. And they made it seem too easy. Chris and the crew made a very difficult day MUCH easier. I would highly recommend them to anyone moving. They wrapped everything, Nothing was damaged. My house had a fresh coat of paint, so I inspected the whole house before they left and couldn't find a scratch. read more

BEWARE. We used Tommy's Moving because of all of their positive reviews and it was a the worst and most costly mistake I've made in a very long time. First off, they are terrible communicators. Very primitive in the way they operate the business - certainly do not give professional estimates or return calls or emails. The awful communication and estimate should have been enough for me to look elsewhere and it certainly made me wary, but I kept thinking about all of their good reviews and told myself not worry. They showed up 45 minutes late moving day, they trashed the carpeting and walls of the home we were moving out of including dragging a bed so forcefully against a wall, they ripped the thermostat off that controlled the A/C (it was Aug., it was in the 90s, and A/C was important), and they yelled and cursed at each other the entire day in front of me, my husband and our two children so loudly and so often that it caused us all a great deal of stress. There was an older worker (60 yrs old) who was working with the same ability as all the others, in face he would sling furniture on his back with a strap (a dresser) and walk it up a flight of stairs. He was yelled at relentlessly by the "lead mover" and continually berated for his slowness and his old age. I'm pretty sure that violates the guy's workplace rights as it was blatant age discrimination/humiliation coming from a higher ranking employee. In addition to all of this, they lost the hardware for my $8,000 sideboard (without it there are 4 significant holes in the top of the piece so I have to have the hardware custom made to replace it, and they picked up our antique secretary (from the 1800's) by it's delicate feet and snapped them off. Who picks a 500 lb antique up thinking its delicately carved feet are going to support its weight?? This was our most valuable piece of furniture (which I told them several times) and they threw it around like it was firewood. They also did not cover most of our furniture and left deep scratches in two antique tables. Our move date was Aug. 1 and the owner refused to answer my calls or emails asking to file a claim for all their damage. Several weeks went by and I did not hear from him until I told him I was turning this over to my attorney. It was then that his schedule finally "freed right up". A claim was filed in Dec, FOUR MONTHS AFTER OUR MOVE, and the few dollars their insurance is paying to cover a tiny fraction of their damage on this still has not been paid to me as of Jan 3. Everything single thing about our experience with this mover was a nightmare and five months later I am still dealing with the aftermath. read more

We used Tommy's Moving on September 27th to move from Bayonne to Central Jersey. While most of the move went smoothly, we were saddened to see the several pieces of furniture were damaged during the trip between homes. The damages included dining room chairs where large chunks of the wooden backboard were broken off, other chairs which had large scratches all over the back, and even a cabinet whose glass front was cracked in 3 separate places. When I brought this damage up to Al, he simply apologized and said their was nothing he could do about it and it was not covered by their insurance policy. I selected Tommy's moving because I expected an honest company which I could count on to safely move my furniture. Unfortunately this was not case and they simply shrugged off the damaged they did to my chairs and cabinet, leaving me with bill. read more

I am very pleased with my experience with Tommy's Moving. We were moving from Hoboken to Somerville [with 2 other pick up stops along the way]. Tommy came to do an assessment at our apartment based on the amount of stuff we had. He estimated 10 hours for the move but admitted that he was likely overestimating, so I hoped it would be closer to 8 hours. They ended up coming with 5 men, which was a slightly higher rate but they assured us they would finish faster and so we decided to take their word for it, and I am VERY glad we did because we ended up saving money in the end. -The men had everything moved in 6 hours--including 2 hours of travel time. Given the amount of stuff we have, this was incredible. -All of the guys were efficient and just also really nice guys, I honestly wish we could have tipped more. -They provided us with a few wardrobe boxes for free. -They wrapped all of our fragile items and there was not a scratch left on anything we owned.
