I had an appointment in Ponchatoula later in the afternoon and my 6yo son wanted to go someplace different for pizza. Living in Baton Rouge, that's asking a lot with so few places most very good to get pizza. So I looked what was near my destination and found this delightful little place not far off the beaten path. One aside that's nice about little towns like Hammond, no parking meters. Woohoo! For a big town guy like me, I like quaint towns that haven't figured out how to make revenue from visitors or it's residents. If you're travelling through on the I-12, this place is easy to find and well worth driving past the fast food places and literally go the extra mile up the road to go here for lunch or dinner. They wouldn't seat my son and I at a booth because we were just two people. I walked out of Fred 62 on Vermont in Silver Lake, CA because they did this to me, I figured I drove so far to Tommy's I wouldn't do that here. It was a little of a let down for the little one especially since they weren't even 33% full capacity. I was there at 2 pm on a Saturday. Nonetheless we were sat at a little table for 2 by the window. My son got the kids pizza with pepperoni and pineapple added, and I got a 1/2 Greek salad with shrimp and chicken added to it. (my diet). My son's pizza was awesome, pepperoni was baked into the layers of cheese, I had to ask if it was on there as it looked like a cheese pizza. My salad came about 5 minutes later and the shrimp were huge and freshly grilled, and 3 huge pieces of grilled chicken on a bed of spinach greens and well done home made salad dressing, crushed olives. (I had them hold the feta cheese). Our server was Hannah, she was very nice and was waiting the few tables around us. I know one person commented on slow service, but I have to object, if you want speedy service, go some place like the East Coast where that's expected. I've found in general that Louisiana as a whole moves at a slower pace on a larger scale, no offense, just an observation. Just try driving here or waiting at the average traffic light. My average analogy of a slow transaction or service will be "as slow as a Baton Rouge Traffic light". They were a bit slow, but it was a lazy Saturday afternoon, and it goes with the vibe of the town. If you're in a hurry, then go to the fast food place, if you want quality service and quality food, and quality time to enjoy eating food and enjoying life and good people, then come here. Across the street was a Strawberry Beignet place, so when I'm off my diet, I'm going back for pizza and dessert as a treat, it was 54 minutes out of my way, and totally worth the drive. I highly recommend it for any foodie who wants something different and doesn't mind the journey getting there. Too bad they don't open one up on Baton Rouge. read more

There is nothing wrong with average. We had the feeling it was our server's first week on the job and maybe the kitchen was not at its finest based on other reviews - but we did not regret coming. This is the kind of place you visit if you are walking down the street in downtown Hammond - but I would not make a special trip. Downtown Hammond may not be a culinary hotbed, but there are a few worthy options. One of which is Tommy's on Thomas. As virtually every other reviewer has stated, the buffalo cheese bread is a must! Three of us shared a half order, which was plenty. Especially, if you're going to follow it up with an entree, like we did. Chicken Caesar salad for one of us and individual combination pizzas for the other two. All good! I was warned that the pizza sauce is sweet, and it is. Perhaps a bit too sweet for my taste, but a pretty good pie, and loaded with toppings. I did notice that they offer other pizza sauce options, as well as a good selection of pasta choices. Something for everyone to enjoy in a chill bar-like setting. The service was on the slow side, but we weren't in a huge rush, so not an issue today. This place is just progressively getting worse. As a long time patron I'm super disappointed in them. The staff are some of the rudest people in Hammond, the building is dingy and filthy, and the food has become less than spectacular. Our pizza barely had any toppings and drinks were constantly low before being refilled. Do yourself a favor and order carry out, or go elsewhere. My dad and I went to Tommy's and were there for an HOUR before we got our appetizer, which was just fried cheese ravioli. Then, we waited another 15 minutes (total of hour an 15 minutes) for the waitress to come back and tell us they were JUST NOW putting our food in the oven. My dad got up and said we were leaving and didn't want anything, and the waitress just said "Ok, I'm sorry!" And walked away. He then asked so speak to the manager who offered no compensation, like a discount or anything, and just said she was sorry and would go talk to the kitchen. The most horrible service I've ever had! We went here for lunch on the suggestion of others who had said they had awesome pizza and calzones. I should have known better. If you want advice on where to eat in the south, you can be pretty sure that a southerner will know the best places to go. I you want advice about good pizza, you have to get on plane and head north. Southerners don't have much to compare their pizza to. Tommy's has a cool location in an old brick building with lots of character, but the service was ridiculously slow considering there really wasn't too many people in the place. I had ordered a calzone, and had high hopes. When it showed up, it didn't look too bad and actually tasted pretty good. Until I tried to dip it in the marina sauce that came with it. It was some kind of sickly sweet sauce, that didn't resemble marina except for the color. If I would have ordered a pizza, I would have sent it back. But since I was able to avoid using the sauce I stuck it out. The calzone was a decent size and inexpensive. The dough and ingredients had good flavor minus the sauce. I probably would go back but for sure would skip anything where I couldn't exclude the sauce. read more

I arrived into Hammond on Friday afternoon to meet some friends for a football on Saturday, September 24th. They had arrived into Hammond from Florida around 1:00 pm on Friday afternoon, so I met them at Tommy's when I pulled into town around 2:00/2:30. They had already eaten; however, had some pizza left over which I tried. The pizza was cold by the time I tried it, but it was really good! It consisted of shrimp, alligator sausage, onions, and extra cheese with Tommy's Pizza "original sweet sauce." There were big pieces of shrimp and sausage, and the sweet sauce made its presence known but was not overpowering. My friend already had a couple of draft beers, so I had a couple to make up for lost time. Our waitress, Tori (who was very cool, friendly, and helpful) recommend a "Blue" from SweetWater Brewing Company for my first beer, and a "Canebrake" from Parish Brewing Company for my second. I used to go here all the time. Then I moved and try to grab dinner when I'm in town. The food in the past has always been delicious with generous portions. However, I stopped by before heading home today after about a year of not being around... I was incredibly disappointed. I brought two friends with me and was excited for them to try it but instead I was just embarrassed for having brought them here. First, the portion sizes have seriously shrunk. It used to be the calzones used to be large enough that I could eat half and then bring the rest home for lunch the next day. This was small enough that I finished it and was still kinda hungry. Then, the zesty sauce tasted more like a tomato sneezed into some water. My friends pizza tasted like a memory of a taste. Not that cheesy delicious crusty piZza experience that you hope for. Then our calzones were undercooked and doughy. When our waitress finally came back around (I get it. Busy restaurant. But a refill would have been nice at some point) and asked us how our meal was.... well... your actual food being an utter disappointment isn't something your waitress can't fix. She can only bring you more disappointment from the kitchen. So the silence following her "how is everything" question was awkward and thankfully broken by my friends request for sweet sauce. I sure hope that this experience was a fluke. It's difficult to find a favorite spot in a town you visit every couple of years. 2 stars because if it weren't for this experience I would give it 4. Went to Tommy's on Thomas today for lunch. The sever was nice and accurate. But the 45 minutes or longer wait was ridiculous. It only takes about 8 to 10 minutes to cook a pizza. When you are taking your lunch break 45 minutes to receive your food after ordering them the time it takes to eat surely has you late getting back from lunch break. Luckily for me I was at lunch with my boss. After receiving our lunch the pizza was mediocre at best. Definitely not take home box worthy. Then to add insult to injury the management offered a two dollar discount of our bill. Really two dollars off. Are you kidding. Such a small gesture for such a long wait. The food is very good. The facilities are atrocious. The ladies room is utterly disgusting. The soap dispenser and paper towel dispenser we're broken. The toilets were clogged. One door was missing off of the cabinet and dirty paper towels were spilling out of it. There was a roach in our to-go box. I don't know what the men's room looks like but there's no way the female staff are washing their hands after using the bathroom. Place order then 45 minutes later food still had not arrived and server came to table twice saying the food would be right out. Went told server if food was not ready we we're walking out. She then came out with our food boxed to go. Homemade chips right out the fryer in a closed container is not very appetizing, pretty soggy. I am not a restaurant complainer and she brought the bill and I paid it BUT NEVER DID A MANAGER COME AND OFFER TO TALK ABOUT POR EXPERIENCE! I actually crave pizza from Tommy's. We usually start with the cheese fries appetizer, which is always good with just the right amount of two different cheeses. Not your usual cheese fries... The sweet pizza sauce is really good and I usually don't like sweet food. It has a great flavor that is unlike anything I have ever tasted before. Simply stated, this pizza is the best around. The atmosphere is a little dated and they are **open till 11** which caters to the college crowd. The service is always pretty good. The live music is hit or miss. I have heard great performances, and I have heard things that make my ears bleed. The nightly drink specials help with the less than talented live entertainment. Open late, great food, good service, with drink specials and live music. I wish we had more places like this on the northshore!! read more

I've never had great service here, but the food more than makes up for that. Always and I repeat always start with the buffalo breadsticks. If it is just two people then the half order for 6 dollars will do, but you must try them! I also enjoy their Caesar salads. The pizzas comes with a traditional sweet sauce which is very very tasty. I like to get a thin crust with pepperoni and onions. My boyfriend and I split the half order of buffalo breadsticks and an individual pizza last night and it was a perfect amount of food. Those two things with a coke came to 16 dollars which is not bad at all. If you are in the mood to drink, their strawberry lemonade martini is awesome! I love this place! They have some of the best pizza in south Louisiana, with that being said, the wait time is outrageous. It doesn't matter if you come in during a Tuesday afternoon when there are only four other people eating or if you come in during a busy Friday and it's packed! Went here for the first time after I got off from work. I ordered togo and waited for almost 35 minutes, then once my pizza and wings came out I saw a roach crawling on the counter which made me terrified about my food. I kept checking my pizza and once I almost was home I saw a tiny roach crawling around my pizza! I was appalled..went back got a refund. Tommy's Pizza is the closest thing to NYC style pizza you can find in Louisiana. It's also very similar to the style of pizza I've had in Naples, Italy. The pizza is excellent don't be afraid of sweet sauce. If you need a dash of spice pit some Tobasco on it. The spicy and sweet coming together is terrific. I usually can't find good authentic Buffalo Wings in the South. Usually the aside has too much vinegar, but Tommy's is just right. The wings are also big and plump. Tommy's is the only place around where I recommend true Buffalo style wings. Their sweeter Buffalo style wings are great too. Their bar has a wide selection of beers on tap. That combined with great appetizers makes Tommy's a popular spot to socialize. Mozz sticks and Buffalo bread sticks are big sellers. So is the spinach dip. read more

My girlfriend and I had simple request, one Large order of buffalo breadsticks . Waited an hour for Buffalo wings to get brought to table we explain to the waitress and 20 minutes later she brings out a small buffalo breadsticks . Now I've waited over and hour and we're hungry to this point and we have small order and share it so anyway that's how that visit to one of our favorite restaurants went . This is a tough one because I have had good food and OK service here previously but this last time the waitress sucked. My daughters and I were talking for a few minutes to the waitress about getting a deep dish pizza. We then ordered a "deep dish pizza", not knowing that they don't make deep dish just thick crust. But the less-than-astute waitress never told us that. Duh! Do you know what you are serving? Then I asked her about a beer on the list. She replied, "I don't know. I don't drink beer. I drink whiskey." Really, that's your answer? How about, "Let me get you a taster." or "I will ask and get right back to you." Does anyone train the servers here? When she brought over a flat Goose Island IPA I went to the bar to get a fresh beer. Was in Hammond on business, decided to stop in to get something to eat before walking over to where I was going. I ordered the spaghetti and meatballs. It was really good and reasonably priced. That would have been enough. However, right before the food was delivered, the electricity on the whole block went out. Nevertheless, they made sure the food came out. When it came time to pay, I didn't have cash and the electricity outage knocked their credit card system offline. So I volunteered to walk over to the nearest ATM and get the cash necessary to pay the bill, while leaving my license with them or some similar arrangement to verify I'd come back. However, the owner (or manager on duty) came over and waived the price entirely. I think very highly of them, that they were willing to eat their own cost over an incident not of their doing. Customer service counts for a lot, and if ever I come back to Hammond and want lunch or dinner, I will definitely try to come again. read more

This was my first trip to Hammond, so naturally I looked to my fellow yelpers for guidance on where I might find myself sitting down to some tasty Italian in a town I knew little about. It's just an hour or so outside of New Orleans. I wound up choosing Tommy's, and it was exactly what I was looking for. I sat at the bar, the staff behind the bar was chatty, warm and welcoming. I was here on the Sunday night and the restaurant was pretty busy. The drink selection included the standard domestics, plus the pride of Hammond local beer giant, Gnarly Barley. I went with the Cathahoula Common(named after the state dog of Louisiana), I found it to be an easy drinking lager. Ok food! The menu, offers pastas and pizzas, I went with the build your own Calzone, oh buddy! I kept it fairly simple, mozzarella, ricotta and roasted garlic. I got the sauce on the side. I was told they have two red sauces and sweet and a zesty, and most people like to mix them. I chose the sweet, and it really was sugar forward then tangy/tomatoey, but liked it, unlike any sauce I've ever tasted. Now I just need an excuse to return to Hammond. read more

I'm upset that I even have to give this place one star. We ordered dinner to go. One cheese pizza, lasagna, one beef pizza, and a hamburger PO boy. The beef was nowhere to be found on the pizza. Both pizzas were extremely doughy as if it wasn't cooked long enough. It tasted like a frozen pizza you'd buy from the grocery store. Horrible! The lasagna tasted like Stouffer's with added cheese.
