Got some pretty good drinks and mediocre food at this club. It certainly is better at certain times when you go. Tommy's Place is one of the popular hangouts in Blue Island. Better to go earlier if you want to save on admission. With the crappy cover prices it adds up and isn't worth it because it's often lame to be honest. Found out about it while looking for places around here to go. It's not a great area for certain so the options are limited. This was one of the few bars or restaurants we had not been to yet. Annoying things they have about it. They often charge a cover on the weekends. Go earlier and it can be avoided. It's about $6 to get a whole pitcher on Wednesdays. Choose a house liquor and add fruit juices. Pretty great value. We imagined the food would be worse. It's about $6 for chips and salsa, pretty basic. This turned out to be actually okay. Of course they have the kitchen closed most times so they usually won't even have anything. They also have the usual bar food like burgers and fries. Have to say it's not as bad as it could be. Couple of months ago, I saw a man hoping over the fence attempting to escape the establishment from the back door. I said mmh "that doesn't look right". Therefore, I knew in my mind that this wasn't the place for me. The lounge's lay out appear to outdated. It was over due for a remodel 10 years ago. T A friends of mine wanted to go there. Sign said no cover charge but the bouncer said $5 each. The place was dead and empty. It appeared 5 people in the lounge. I wanted to go Raven located down the street. Free cover charge. I haven't been here in years. I went with my friend and we sat at the bar. I always order Tito's on the rocks so you can't really get that wrong. My friend ordered an apple martini that she said she liked. The pizza was the highlight of the evening! I should have taken a pic. We didn't realize how big the pizza was so we literally was giving out pizza to strangers! It seriously is the best pizza I've tasted so far. I wish they were on Uber Eats! One Wednesday, I decided to venture out to the far, far, parts of the south suburbs. Yes, I had on my bullet proof vest. My reason for heading to Tommy's was to meet a group of friends that usually frequent the joint. Good enough reason for me! From what I was previously told, they never have a line, you just pay your ten bucks and walk in. Whelp, on this night there happened to be a line AND it happened to be one of the days in November where Chicago was deciding whether or not to transition to winter. It was a winter night. The security held the line outside for about 30 minutes for no reason what-so-ever. From those that frequent the place, they said its been much more packed than the night we were forced to stand outside. How dare they! I had on a little skirt! Other than that though, Tommy's was a cool spot. The best part about them are theur CHEAP drinks on Wednesdays; their drink specials are from $5-$7! I had to be brave and sashay to the bar and dare the waitress to give me something strong. Her suggestion was a drink similar to a "Blue Mother-*****" but with more of a punch. I asked how much and when she said $7, I said WHATTTT??!!! BRING IT! I got a nice sized PITCHER to drink. I guzzled down one because it was mixed so well the liquor was totally hidden. Big mistake. *cough* I had another one and midway though it, I felt it. Tipsier than that thang! Loved it! They also serve food. I nibbled from about four different plates of food from four different people and everything was surprisingly tasty. Not what I expected at all. Karaoke was the highlight of that night which made for a pretty energetic environment where everyone readily sang along to almost everything that was played. In between "singers," the D.J. would throw on music, turning the spot into a dance club for a few minutes. Great Urban Bar and club. On Wednesday nights they have Karaoke and weI never visit Chicago (From Detroit) without planning a trip there for karaoke night. Get there early as they fill up by about 11pm and they could double the 250 capacity if there was room! Have your legs streched and ready to dance as you'll be hip hoppin, booty droppin, and hot-body shoppin all night! The food is great, the drinks are priced to move and the dancers born to groove! I believe the Long Islands were $3!! Park in back but not next door where the failing shopping center suppliments their losses by towing cars all night! Hated this place and would never go back. I was having a birthday party and was assigned a space. People we didn't know tried to take our seats. The drinks were watered down. And the non welcome people wanted our food which I boxed up and put away. Security was no help. Never again. read more

I came to this place for the first time and ordered a drink for myself and my friend and it was not what we ordered they put a cheap liquor in place of the real vodka that we ordered.This is very sad for a business to switch out the liquor in the bottle especially when you are changing the price of the real liquor. I will be contacting the liquor commission to go check this place out. read more

2 totally different experiences in one week... Wednesday night, the place was full of people. Everyone was having fun, dancing karaoke, and I met interesting people. My drink, Makers and ginger ale was done just right. It was a good time. Saturday night, ugh. I can't believe they charged a cover to get in on this night. It was 10 people in there including this 60 year old woman who had clearly lost her damn mind. She was so distracting the entire night. She was dancing alone on the floor for at least a hour. Later in the night she was rubbing up on guests male and female who were warding off her advances. She was so annoying! My drink was done all wrong this night and when I asked the bartender to correct it, she told me I had to buy another shot to fix it. I had to drink a nasty glass of Makers, 7up, and water. No ginger ale that night. My sister also ordered a bottle of wine. The bartender gave her an ice bucket and the wine bottle unopened. Wtf? What bartender doesn't know to open the bottle and pour the first drink? She brought her one cup for the whole bottle and the cup was dirty with lip stains on it. We ordered food, and it wasn't good. The last strike was when the twerk team got on the dance floor and completely showed their asses. I mean that literally. I looked over and saw bare ass shaking out of a black dress. No underwear! I had to get the hell out of there after that. With all the security you think they would police the assault on my eyes that night. In a nutshell, it's cool if you go on a Wednesday. I went here for one thing only Karaoke on Wednesday . It starts at nine but the crowd didn't get comfortable till 1000 or so no cover. I went with a friend so it was cool nothing serious laid back atmosphere . I wanted to sing so bad but I was so hoarse I would've sounded like a toad! I came here for drinks with a few friends and had a good time. I had a crown and coke and a vodka and cranberry and a cheese fry, they were a little salty for my taste. The drinks were nice and strong. The place is a little hood, but not so hood that I wouldn't come back. Its just hood enough. Tommy's Place is wack. A couple dozen officers at my job were promoted to sergeant so they decided to go to Tommy's Place on a Thursday night to celebrate their accomplishment. They invited everyone at work to join in the celebration. Long story short, even after I displayed my officer's badge they would not let me in because I was 4 months shy of being 25. The security guards asked some person behind a closed door (I'm assuming the manager) if they would allow me in because I was an officer and it took "The Wiz" of Tommy's Place only a second to say NO. After a minute or so of a back and forth, I left. I'm old enough to monitor criminals but not old enough to get in a bar. That's insane! What could my 24 year old self possibly do in a room full of correctional officers, that are my coworkers! FYI: You can become a correctional officer at 18 years old. I understand the age restriction, but again they were aware that majority of the patrons that evening were correctional officers! Such a dumb policy. Thought the my days of not being old enough to get in a bar ended when I hit 21 in college. read more

This place is the racist place I've ever been! They were very rude to my husband and I. At first they did not let my husband in with gym shoes. We waited on friends outside that we were meeting up with to tell them we couldn't go in and noticed that they were letting others in with gym shoes, just not us. Then the jerk security gaurd came out and said he would let us in because he knew we saw him letting every other African American person with gym shoes in. I couldn't believe the poor customer service we received. The cook brought out the wrong salad, I told him that's not what I ordered. He says that's what the ticket read. So we summons the bar guy who took our order. He proceeded to say that is what you ordered, I disagreed. We went back in forth (3 exchanges). Really?!? From that point on we were called ignorant. Due to the blasting music we had to raise our voices, so because of that we deserved to be called ignorant? Might as well called us n****. At that point we returned all the food and drinks and required our money back. By the way he had a glass of dark liquor in his hand and was clearly inebriated. Spoke to the manager (Ashley) who defended his actions and neither one of them apologized. Needless to say we got a full refund ($60), left and will never return. I'm so perturbed that the majority of patrons are black, and they would have the audacity to be so careless to let such an ignorant comment loose, we are clearly the ones who keep their establishment up and running. My UIC co-workers and I had a Christmas party at Tommy's 12/19/14. There was a minimum of 30 people in our party. When my neices and I arrived theman at the door charged us $10 each to get in. I explained to the guy that the information I had been given stated the cover charge didn't go up to $10 until 10pm. He told me to look at my phone because it was already 10pm according to his clock. I showed him my phone and said it is only 9:58. He said we go by the clock up there on the wall so it's $10. Once inside I requested to speak to the owner. I explained the situation to her and she reiterated that they go by the clock on their wall. I told her the clock was fast and she said she knew that. She said most clubs set their clocks five minutes fast to get the patrons out easier at the end of the night. I told her that meant they were deliberately cheating people on the front end who arrive within five minutes of the price change. She said that is their policy and she wasn't going to give me a refund of the difference nor was she going to argue with me. She turned and walked away. I was sooo pissed because I felt like I had been cheated with no restitution. I thought once I brought the discrepancy to the owner's attention she would have remorse and refund the overpayment in the interest of good customer service. I felt like she had no value for me as a customer and no regard for the fact that we as a group had chosen her place of business to patronize for our celebration.
