Good, light and fresh tasting Chinese food. I love their garlic bean shoots and get them every time. Expensive, but alas, it's Marin. Not the most authentic, but you also don't feel that you need tea to cut the grease afterwards. My kids love the fish tanks. read more

Wow, unbelievable how bad our group dinner turned out about a week ago. Everything started out pretty bad and unfortunately got worst not a pleasant dinner experience. I don't know what's happened for the food or the cook but everything was brought out stoned cold and not-much flavor. The prices haven't changed quite pricey for what you get in comparison but again it's all about location. Takeout was ok. Slightly above average quality for Chinese food. But it was all in plastic containers and piping hot. I do not expect to have to eat out of toxin leeching hot plastic from a higher end spot. I do love them for including gluten free soy sauce. Maybe would go eat there in house but won't do take out. read more

Had a really bad experience with the food here. Firstly they do not serve the real chinese food which is sad. Secondly the waiter did not know the menu. I after reading the menu once knew it better than him so when I asked him question regarding the menu he gave me all the wrong answers. When food arrived, noticed it was not chinese food rather it's Americanized Chinese Food Version, like Elaine N had mentioned in her review as well. And to make things worse the noodles we ordered had facial hair I presume, which I took a picture and did also show to the waiter. They refunded the money for that dish but never even apologized for the mistake on their part. Conclusion : This is not a Chinese Food Place. It's an Americanized fake "Chinese" Food. Next time I'd go back to Hong Kong Lounge down geary blvd San Francisco to try the authentic chinese food which was very tasty and authentic. read more

I came here recently because of a local's recommendation. He swore it was the best Chinese restaurant this side of the Golden Gate Bridge (which is certainly high praise). While I don't think I agree with my friend's opinion, I do think it's a solid dining option. I just think I ordered the wrong dishes. First, let's focus on the positive. Tommy's Wok is located in Sausalito right off the 101 Freeway. There's plenty of parking outside. It's pretty lively for a Chinese restaurant - pretty much every table was full (families, couples, friends, solo diners, etc.). The friendly hostess seated me immediately, and within minutes I had a menu, glass of water, and a pot of tea while I perused the menu. The menu offers a wide variety of classic Chinese dishes as well as more gourmet/Marin-influenced options. Since I'm more of a traditionalist, I ordered the pork potstickers (6 for $7.50), the Mo-Shu Chicken Wrap with hoisin sauce, and an order of fried brown rice with chicken. The total bill came out to $30, and I certainly had enough food to last for a few days. To be honest, I was already full after just the potstickers. So here's what I wasn't so crazy about... - The potstickers lacked any sort of fried, crispy bottom. While generous in size and quantity, they were a bit soggy for my taste. However, I did enjoy the homemade chili-ginger soy and vinegar dipping sauce. - The Mo-Shu Chicken Wrap was also a generous serving. The chicken and veggies were fresh, and the dish came with 4 house-made pancakes. But for me, the hoison sauce was a bit over-powering and sodium-based. But then again, maybe that's how it's supposed to taste. I guess I'm just not a Hoisin sauce fan. - The brown fried rice was a good idea in theory. I guess in mind, I thought I was being healthier by choosing brown rice instead of regular white rice. But let's face it, fried food is fried food. And fried white rice is much tastier than brown rice. Once again, the portion was large enough to feed a small family. And the chicken pieces were in abundance. But I was disappointed that there were no carrots, peas, or any kind of veggie mixed in to the dish. Over all, the food was fine... just not memorable. But I would definitely return. And next time, I'll have a better idea of what to order. read more

Phenomenal chinese chow, wow!! This restaurant has definitely secured a niche specializing in neo-traditional chinese cuisine. Both quasi-healthy and environmentally sustainable, no MSG is used and their meats are all free-range and highest quality (rare in the chinese food genre). Everything about this is pleasing, from the unique windowed exhibition-style kitchen, to the soft amber glow of their modern dining room, accented with ivory statuettes (no doubt homage to the classical chinese eatery from which their style has obviously sprung). The food is remarkable; my compadre and I dove headlong into exceptional walnut prawns, mongolian beef and won ton soup. Indeed, in our euphoria over this joint, even the server was superb in her own way, exclaiming "are you still debating? come on, let's go" as she attempted to take our order. I lived in Sausalito for many years and Tommy's Wok was my favorite place to eat. It is the best Chinese in Marin and I never had a meal that was anything less than delicious. The mongolian beef and mo-shu wraps are my particular favorites. read more

I've only had lunch for take out here however I have to say that it has been great both times... Prices are a little bit higher than normal lunch specials for a chinese lunch menu, but I do feel the quality of the food is greater as well. Very friendly service and fast. They deliver evenings in Sausalito and Mill Valley, but during lunch if you want takeout you need to do the driving. read more

Tommy's is a rip-off. For the lunch special they use to serve decent size portions for lunch with garlic noodles. Now they give you what seems like Birds-Eye beans and corn. Stopped going to Tommy's because of the smaller portions, the very unfriendly staff and the food is just not worth the price. Against my better judgment, I decided to try Tommy's again because some of my office mates were ordering to go. I ordered the Orange Roughy lunch plate. Got 3 pieces of bit size fish with vegetables. Called to complain and was told that since it was the lunch special they only give 3 pieces of fish. So I asked if they serve 6 pieces for dinner. I spoke to 2 people and neither cared about my complaint. I told them I would not be going back to their restaurant. I would never recommend going to Tommy's. read more

I've read the reviews, don't believe them. My date and went there to eat. My broccoli was served cold and soaking in way too much sauce. Even my pint of hard undercooked white rice could not soak up all the greasy sauce. My date had fried rice with egg and tofu...again, the rice was under cooked, and maybe had 1egg in it. Total ripoff . Save your money, time and patience and go somewheres else. Not only was the food really bad, but $15.00 for a plate of cold broccoli? My dates bill was just as outrageous. We have eaten at Tommys many times over the years. The food is ok, but our last order was delivered in the most obscene mountain of heavy plastic bags and containers I have ever seen. To get around the ban on plastic bags they now use giant thick heavy-duty plastic bags that they call "reusable". But of course these industrial strength "reusable" bags get thrown away, just like all the little thin ones. On top of that each fortune cookie is in an individual plastic wrapper. On top of that the 10 plastic wrapped cookies are in yet another giant plastic bag. On top of that each entree comes in a heavy duty plastic container. 5 % of the world's plastic gets recycled and plastic never -- never -- biodegrades. Our family and friends have decided to stop patronizing Tommys until they stop inundating customers with plastic. read more

Pretty solid Chinese food. They are hard at work in this restaurant and try to get your order out to you as fast as possible. Unfortunately, I have had to wait for kind of a while sometimes when I ordered food for takeout. This is probably the best option for Chinese food in the Sausalito area, maybe even the greater Marin area. Jenny Lowe's in Mill Valley is also pretty decent. A friend and I were in Marin after a hike and looking for a place for dinner. We came here. It was busy, but looked very clean and nice. Got shrimp dumplings which were excellent and a chicken dish with tomato-based sauce, pretty good. But what sucked was I forgot my backpack in the restaurant on a Sat. night and they would not open again until Mon. evening. I was kind of freaking out (had some valuables in it). Then Monday finally rolls around and I call and they have my backpack! I drive over and am totally grateful. They kept my backpack for two whole days, right on a hook, just off the front counter and all my valuables were intact. Hey, the food is good and their honesty is super! I'm Chinese, grew up in SF Chinatown -- so admittedly, my taste is jaded. In any case, I couldn't stand this place. Yes, it's clean; yes, it's pretty -- but it's all show, no go. Everything tastes alike, inauthentic, inexcusably bad service and over priced. Mill Valley Wok is much better if you have to eat Chinese food in Marin. (OK, maybe not "better" -- but at least you won't feel ripped off.) Really great. High quality chinese food that is too yummy to be healthy--but isn't wallowing in pools of grease like all the other bay area chinese food places. They have an amazing menu. I love the eggplant dish and they do fantastic moo-shu prawns. The decor is very pleasant and mellow, they even offer outdoor seating in the summer months. read more

We had dinner here tonight because I've been craving Chinese food and I didn't want to have to drive into SF just for casual food. What a mistake it was to come here! We ordered the appetizer sampler, garlic noodles, and the roasted duck. Our total? Almost $50. I understand that this is Marin and people here tend to have some money, but COME ON! Are you kidding me? The appetizer was ok, the duck was good, but the plum sauce and the lotus buns were not and the garlic noodles sucked. I felt so bad for dragging J here. Absolutely my fave Chinese place! Maybe it's not authentic, but love the brown rice, fresh veggies in every dish and Szechuan options. A little more expensive than the usual cheap Chinese, but worth every penny -- love the fresh fruit garnish rather than some tasteless deep fried wonton. Heads and shoulders above Jenny Low's (bland, less quality), which also tries to be Californiaized, yet fails miserably on all accounts, except maybe for the tea. Tommy's, it is! read more

Worst Chinese food EVER. If I could give this place negative stars, I would certainly do so without question. How can so many people say this is the "best ever?" Must have been the canned corn, mushy brown rice and that super salty stir fry that people really like, because those things all point to a zero stars review for me. And the waitstaff really need some help learning how to be just a tiny bit courteous, a simple hello, thank you, and/or goodbye would have been nice, because it's the little things that bring back customers for repeat business, never going back, you could not pay me to eat there again. read more

Solid Chinese food. By far the best in the area.

Last night I was in a fussy, pissy mood, so my SO decided to order delivery in his infanite wisdom knowing that I would probably poison his food if I had to cook. But here is the catch...we live in Corte Madera, also known as the Bermuda Triangle of delivery, unless you want OBW or Pizza. However, we discovered that Tommy's does deliver to C.M.!!! Yayyyyy!! We ordered the pork pot stickers (yummy, but not as crisp on the bottom as I like). Lover's Prawns (for 2 persons) $16.50 Sauted in half mild lobster sauce, and half with spicy garlic sauce, ginger, and chili tomato sauce. I LOVED The spicy garlic side, the lobster side was kinda boring, but fine. General's Chicken (fried & hot) $10.85 Garnished with broccoli, ginger & garlic with a touch of vinegar. This dish ROCKED....soooooo yummy. We also got the garlic noodles.....awesome! All in all my SO thought that this was the best Chinese food he had ever eaten, and I thought it was fantastic...I would give it 4.5, but I can't so I had to knock it down to 4 stars because its pretty expensive for chinese food. read more

I was enthused to try this place after reading all the reviews on yelp. We ordered fried crab wontons which tasted like dead sunbaked crab death (nasty and I sent 'em back), pork potstickers which were nothing special, wonton soup...about average, mango chicken which is their renowned dish...it was good, pork chowmein...decent. I am not so impressed. Service was good though and they didn't question my opinion of their crab death wontons which they promptly removed from our bill. Their signature dish pulled my rating to 3 stars...just barely. Sadly, I kept dreaming of my favorite chinese restaurant 50 miles north - Kirin in Santa Rosa. Go there instead! read more

Slightly pricey; but you know what, it was worth it. I would have to agree with some of the other reviewers here... the food is amazing and so fresh! Perhaps if my plate of veggies and tofu hadn't cost more than a Happy Family at any other Chinese joint, I'd give this place another star. But $11? It's vegetables, for criminy. Yes, they were tasty. Yes, I enjoyed having different options from other Chinese menus. (Lemongrass tofu was mighty good.) But the prices are whacked. We didn't even get crunchy noodles as appetizers, dagnabbit. When soup is $8 for a small and there's nary a truffle or thread of saffron in sight, there's something wonky going on. read more

Chinese-Marin fusion using cleaner, healthier ingredients than most U.S. Chinese restaurants. We like Tommy's a lot!

Service was nothing to write home about, but the potstickers were definitely worth coming back for (their signature sauce is tasty!). Other dishes were mediocre - not that most Chinese food isn't greasy, but these dishes were swimming in oil and the sauces were a bit too goopy for my taste. It's probably best Chinese we have in Marin, but it's no Eric's or Eliza's in the city. read more
