Did a takeout order at Harmony in Mill Valley. They have a takeout area where you can order and takeout near the kitchen or you can dine which they have a nice area to sit. Since I do takeout the staff is friendly and helpful. I cot chow mein, fried rice, egg roll, and shu mai. They have a few other things on the hot bar which you order and the server gets it for you. They are a bit pricey, but their food is good. They do have a dim sum menu. It's your typical Chinese restaurant, but one of the better ones in Marin.

I came specifically for the vegetarian/ vegan dim sum and Harmony did not disappoint. I ordered the leek & corn dumplings, grilled turnip cakes, lotus leaf rice (request veg) and pea shoots with shiitake mushrooms. While my $55 total before tip was a bit steep for a lunch for one, I was still glad I got to try the food because it's not often that I can find vegan dim sum especially the lotus leaf rice. Thanks for offering veg options Harmony!

Chinese Chicken Salad with tofu instead of chicken

While Harmony won't be on the Bib Gourmand list anytime soon, it does have the cozy broken-in charm of a neighborhood stalwart. The moody dining room and unfailingly warm service are a draw, making you feel at home whether or not you're a first-timer; it's clear many of the patrons are far from being first-timers and that familiarity is part of the appeal. My Chinese Chicken Salad (sub tofu for chicken; that option is a huge plus) arrived bland and dry, but some extra spicy mustard that is brought to every table breathed some new life into it. I'd suggest coating the romaine much more generously to make each bite count. Right now, the only satisfying bites were ones including the tofu, which was a hero flavor that couldn't quite elevate the entire dish on its own. However, I'll reiterate how appreciated it is that they do the substitution making the salad vegetarian. I wouldn't be unhappy returning, but I wouldn't venture too far out of my way to do so.

Harmony Restaurant has the best dumplings and other dishes! If you haven't tried it, it's worth the visit. The service is excellent, the ambiance is lovely and the food is delicious and fresh. My faves: Peking duck dim sum, spinach dumplings, pork/shrimp dumplings with chrysanthemum tea and/or champagne.

My wife and I have been coming here for 30 years, and will still come in 3 times a month. It's far from pretentious, and when it's good.. it's great! On an off day, it's just good. While it used to be an amazing value, post Covid, it's a good value. Their rolls are fantastic; their 'Crab Specials' are to die for! super friendly team! show up twice and they'll know your name. Not to put off the sushi snobs, but they also serve Chinese food. I think it's about the best chinese food in San Rafael, though San Rafael does not set a high bar. Go check them out. You won't be sorry.

I also had lemon chicken and beef and broccoli. I expected the lemon chicken to be similar to sweet and sour chicken/pork or orange chicken where the batter/outside is fried and crispy and the chicken/pork in the center is seasoned and tender. The batter/outside was for lack of a better word "soggy" but the saucy was lemon forward with a slight tang. I'll rate it a 5/10. The beef and broccoli had a strong ginger flavor that I was a fan of, so I would rate it a 2/10. The service was fast and attentive and the restaurant itself is average not fancy and not rundown. I've already visited again and my opinion has not changed.

They've been there often, it seems. I'd be pleased to join them there again. We had a pho and a noodle dish. We split the shishito peppers. My wife prefers less spicy. I'm the opposite. We order calibrated for her. They did fine. My wife remarked afterward it was "Americanized." That is true. It's not necessarily bad. It isn't just Asian cuisines; it's Italian too, and I'd bet just about every other tradition. There is a distinct American version, which an historian could figure out the relationship to the original for, for any "ethnic" dish you'll encounter stateside. Service was brisk. We finished without any concern about making our show.

The music was good, the vibe was nice, but the food took very long to be ready. They said about 15 minutes but was nearly 40, and it was for spring rolls and soup. Giving 4 stars because the food was good, the place was a cool spot, it was just the wait (and incorrect wait time mostly) that was a 2-3 star. Had we known, we would've left and come back and had a more positive overall experience. Worth getting the food, not sure if the wait time is always an issue as only tried once on a trip.
