My wife and I celebrated our 65th anniversary dinner tonight at Tomodachi, Westlake Village. It was an amazing evening made so by the ambiance, beautifully prepared food, and excellent prompt service. We ordered lots of food. We had both Albacore and Yellowtail sashimi. Noteworthy were baked blue crab roll - real crab- and The Tomodachi roll. Our server, Jess, had the best attitude and helped us order, serving promptly and graciously took photos we requested., Topping it all off was a complimentary green tea ice cream dessert with mochi dipped in chocolate . My boyfriend and I have been here three times in a very short amount of time. Their sushi is very good. We both really like how the special rolls aren't drowned in sauce; sometimes that makes it seem like they're trying to hide lower quality fish. I really love their sesame salad dressing and the salmon especially is to die for (but I'm biased). I tend to get anxious in dim, loud restaurants but this restaurant has a great atmosphere. I actually feel quite relaxed and it's never overly loud. Even when it's busy, we are always quickly seated but I'm sure it helps that it's just the two of us as opposed to a family or larger party. Everything we've ordered so far has been delicious and accurate as well. The prices aren't terrible either. We will be back for sure! read more

I feel like you shouldn't have to wait 30 minutes to get your food and sushi place and I do like getting some cooked scallops with the food, but the menu didn't say anything about it being fried it taste like the kind of fried that used oil that has been reused too many times. Add that to the fact that the waitress made a mistake on my order, and then told me it would take the same amount as the usual time, proposing that they go a little quicker this time to get me a fixed version. Lovely little WLV Sushi restaurant. Came in on a Sunday and it was incredibly busy, which is always a good sign. Ordered the standard rolls. The star of the show was the yellowtail by far. My boyfriend took me here last week because I was craving sushi pieces and wanted to go my reg spot but he convinced me to come here and I am so glad I did! We decided to try a new sushi place last night. We arrived an hour before closing as it was the only sushi place that was open around the area past 9 PM because we don't like to arrive at restaurants less than 30 minutes before they close. We were seated quickly, and they brought us out water as soon as we got in. The establishment was very clean and the bathrooms were very spacious. We ordered calamari, shrimp, tempura, dynamite roll, because they were out of the BCR, and they said that was similar, and the Alaskan roll, which we thought was gonna be cooked salmon, but it was raw salmon on top and that's fine because it was very delicious. The sushi all tasted very fresh. We enjoyed our meal very much and when we're craving sushi late at night for dinner will definitely be popping in here again. read more

Lobster roll was excellent, my Japanese scallops had a wonderfully almost smokey like taste with the sauce used on the 2 piece serving, and I had to have masago-- 2 different kinds! My father was joining and he is a regular at this location and I knew once he joined us we would want to sit at the bar. So, I asked and said... I don't understand, you literally just told us we can't sit at the bar. And the waitress looked at me awkwardly and said 'everyone except that man'. To make matters worse the restaurant was mostly empty and the bar was totally empty. This has happened to us multiple times in a row and that is why I am bringing it up. If you tell us we can not sit there, then you shouldn't seat people there. Super rude and it is also discrimination. After my father came, he was surprised and asked them why they did that. Very little seating not ideal for big parties, more of an intimate setting. Service can be a hit or miss, depending on how busy it may be. I've came the day before Thanksgiving and had no problems being seated. I've been here the day before Valentines Day and that was a little chaotic, rightly so. Food wise my favorites are the mushroom appetizer. When they say assortment of mushrooms they mean it! So the first time I went the mushrooms had amazing flavor in a sauce. Although the second time there was no sauce or seasoning. The amberjack is my favorite. I had it the first visit but the second I was a little disappointed because they gave us yellowtail which can look like amberjack but definitely does not taste like it. I didn't want to complain but still great quality & fresh. My thing is if u dont have something don't try and deceive ur customers. Sake bombs were top quailty, sake & beer were at a decent price. Now here is my biggest complaint. We spent quite a bit on dinner a little bit over $230. So it wasnt like we got a roll and left. We later found out that we were charged not 2x but 3X! So imagine having to wait for $460 to be refunded DAYS AFTER. My bf was not happy. When he called they told him something was wrong w the system and multiple customers got charged multiple times. I don't think it's an excuse. It was charged 3x not just 2x. I truly want to return and maybe we might but my 2nd experience was not as good as the first. While the 911 and spicy tuna were okay I'd say the 911 lacked flavor. That said, the combo plate was still good, but I definitely notice that the portions are much smaller. The one thing that was always outstanding was their rice. I know I know who actually eats the rice? Well, me for one. I consider myself as a rice snob so I've always thought they did a great job. That said, this latest visit was just okay. At the end of the day, if you're looking for a decent Japanese restaurant that has some decent dishes then perhaps Tomodachi is the place for you.
