Let me start by saying if I could give this place 1000 stars I would. I've eaten sushi all over the San Fernando Valley, Ventura County, Hawaii, and plenty of other places around the world -- and Sushi Oaks has the absolute best fish I've ever had in my life. Hands down. The quality is lights-out, the creativity is on another level, and they're incredibly consistent. Leo is the best, and the owner, Jeff, is a sweet, amazing, hands-on family owner who really makes the place special. It's not just the fish either -- the service is outstanding. This is a warm, family-friendly, family-owned restaurant that feels genuine every single time. I genuinely believe Sushi Oaks is the best sushi restaurant in Southern California. Skip the hyped-up, high-end places. I'll keep coming back here over any of them, time and time again. Everyone needs to know about this spot. I love this place and if anybody has the Luxury of coming here they will be blessed. I dare anyone to prove me wrong.

This place is great! Hidden gem. It's extremely clean and the setting is straight forward, making the sushi the focus with no tricks or distractions. The fish was FRESH, no need for insane sauces and dips because the fish is perfect and the chef knows this. Tony (the chef) is well educated and knows what he's doing when it comes to proper sushi preparation. Everything was excellent from the garlic oysters, tempura, Spanish mackerel, Japanese scallops, Santa Barbara Uni, toro, and more. Did I mention that Tony is the NICEST guy and the owner, Jeff, is very warm & kind as well? That just seals the deal, if you ask me. No pomp and circumstance here, just great sushi and no gimmicks.

Love this place. The best sushi in Newbury Park. The fish is fresh and the staff is friendly. Leo is the best and the Raul is the best sushi chef. Good for families or for a casual date night.

Great location right off orchard in the shopping center. We came in and it wasn't busy and then 15 minutes later it was completely full! Great fish so fresh! Everything was great! The albacore sashimi had alittle too much sauce for me but it was still great!

Came in an hour before they opened was empty so got seated right away. The restaurant looks big but there's a little bit seating here and there but they do take out as well! There is also plenty parking in front of the store as well. There was a lot of special going on. Got some oysters from the specials then some sushi! The service was very fast and everyone was very friendly. The oyster was so delicious and the sushi tasted amazing! The taste of the sushi is way better than back home. Enjoyed everything! I'm surprised how the uni sushi was about $8/$9 and it came with a lot of uni and it tasted great! I would highly recommend this place if you're in the area! It does get super busy around late dinner time! By the time we got our sushi it was getting super busy but the wait wasnt that long since everything came out very fast! You'll probably wait 10-15mins max if it's a full house.

We had the best Valentine's Day dinner tonight! Our names were waiting for us at the sushi bar when we walked in, so nice they take reservations for the sushi bar now! What a nice change! They treat us like family with so much welcoming warmth & love. The food was amazing, everything so fresh and in abundance not running out of anything. The service was on point! The new owner Jeff is doing such wonderful things there... I see so many great changes. You still see the old familiar faces like the wait staff & behind the sushi bar like my all-time favorite sushi king RAUL, and Tony... Joel is also making sushi rolls now and doing so good! I can't tell you how much I love this place and the new faces... like seeing sweet Eleanor, Jeff's daughter greeting guests tonight as you walked In. The vibe is totally different. It's upbeat and welcoming. I look forward to going to dinner there every single time! Thanks Sushi Oaks for making us feel special. Like family see you soon

I've tried Sushi Oaks three times at this point, but I really don't think the food justifies the price. There is usually a wait on Friday nights and weekends, so I have ordered the food to-go multiple times. The workers are always super nice, and I have yet to run into mistake in my order. However, the cuts of fish are really thin for some of the items, such as the salmon sashimi and Japanese scallop nigiri, to the point where the price just doesn't feel worth it. The quality of the fish is probably better than most sushi places in the area, but it's nothing super spectacular. The first time I tried the Lime Zest Halibut, I really enjoyed it, but the second time I tried it, the lime zest was a lot less aromatic. I've also tried a couple rolls with garlic soy sauce, but the garlic soy is extremely salty and drowns out the flavor of the fish. Overall, I would probably pass next time.

They set the standard and honestly should be the ones training everyone in the restaurant, including the manager. Tim is another huge reason we love this place. He's the only one who seems to wear a smile and a genuine personality every single visit. He never forgets my son or me and always goes out of his way to make us feel welcome and take extra-special care of us. The fish is always incredibly fresh, the food is consistently delicious, and every dish is beautifully prepared. My only suggestion would be the music. I'd love to hear upbeat rock 'n' roll or something with a little more energy instead of the slow, sleepy music that's usually playing. A livelier soundtrack would better match the vibrant atmosphere and elevate the entire dining experience. Thank you, Sarah, Daniel, and Tim, for making every visit such a pleasure. The sauce on the rolls is too thick that it's overwhelming and overpowers the other ingredients. Rice was a bit dry that it didn't hold well. I waited for about 5 minutes until the lone sushi chef gestured that I sit at the bar across from him. There was a menu and sushi checklist waiting for me. I already knew what I wanted, and selected the coordinating boxes. The waitress took my drink order and instructed me to give the completed sheet to the chef. He informed me they did not have the salmon roe, so no problem. But then I took the sheet back and noticed he replaced my bluefin tuna with regular tuna, without asking or telling me. They were also out of quail egg. So far .. not so good. I mentioned then if he could make my smelt egg roll without rice and he said yes. Thinking he would wrap it in seaweed, he scooped out two lemon halves and served the smelt egg in two lemon halves. Frankly, the terrible presentation wasn't the issue, it was the chef's lack of experience and practicality. You should be able to eat an egg roll in one bite. He should know that. When I asked him how he thought I should eat it, he said I should scoop it out with my fingers. Wow. Really? When I asked for a small spoon from the waitress, it never came. My hot green tea was lukewarm and tasteless. The restaurant itself was clean but the bar counter was a little sticky. The yellowtail fish was good and fresh. Otherwise, I do not believe I will be returning, due to such deplorable customer service. I do not enjoy writing poor reviews, but was not expecting this place to fall from grace so fast. So disappointed. Kanpai !

For a moment we had the feeling that the evening would be great. The place looked very clean and even a little bit glamorous, so we thought we had chosen a really good spot. Unfortunately, our impressions changed as soon as we started ordering. We ordered a salad, a sushi roll, and monkfish liver. The monkfish liver tasted so "authentic" that it felt like it had just been taken straight out of a can. It definitely did not taste like something that had been prepared in that kitchen. From the beginning to the end of our visit, we never received water. When we asked for wasabi and ginger, the waitress told us that they would bring it when the sushi arrived. We repeated our request for ginger, but the answer was exactly the same. When the roll finally arrived, it looked like someone might have started eating it yesterday and they simply decided to give it another chance today. It wasn't really sliced so much as it was spread across the plate. On the very edge of the plate there was a tiny bit of ginger and a tiny bit of wasabi. Both looked like they might have been borrowed from someone else's plate. When I looked at the waitress questioningly, she explained that if we wanted more wasabi and ginger, we could pay extra and they would bring more. I checked the rating later and somehow it has four stars. I'm giving it two stars -- and only because the sushi chef was very polite when we arrived and the place was clean inside.
