I've been to Pookie's several times and have consistently enjoyed their classic Thai dishes. The food is always solid and keeps me coming back. That said, the service can be a bit slow and confusing--especially for takeout. There doesn't seem to be a clear system in place for pickups. On my most recent visit, we checked in with a staff member who told us our order was still being prepared. After waiting around for 10-15 min, another staff member grabbed our order from the counter right in front of us...it had apparently been ready the whole time. I really like the food and want to keep coming back, but the takeout experience could definitely use some improvement. read more

This place is wonderful. It's unassuming in appearance as it's hidden a bit in a quiet courtyard. However, I think this was the best pad Thai I've ever had. My husband and I had dinner at Pookie's Thai tonight. We had a table that overlooked the water stream running through the property. Pookie set a special menu for us. Everything was so delicious. First course was Shrimp Cake with Plum sauce, Second course for me was fruit salad (Thai style, so yummy), for my husband, it was beef salad and the Main course for me was fried Fish with red curry sauce and for my husband, soft shell crab with curry power then for dessert, Pookie served us homemade Thai dessert and sticky rice with mango. Everything was so delicious. Warm hospitality and calm atmosphere. We had a wonderful experience at Pookie's Thai Western Cuisine. We will definitely come back again!! From the moment you are walking to the restaurant you will be greeted with a wonderful and peaceful sound of waterfalls running along side the staircase and a peaceful pond. The restaurant itself has a nice private feel to it And their outside seating is next to the pond. The inside is dark it feels private and fancy with jazz music playing in the background. The service is impeccable. We were lucky to be served by Pookie (the owner) herself! She was so friendly and nice and wonderful! She really knows how to welcome her customers without being overbearing. We had the thai tea, shrimp roll, watercourt duck and the ocean noodle combo (i forgot the name lol) and everything was the right amount of flavor and amazing presentation to it. Going to a Thai restaurant in primary white neighborhood and location inside an office structure, made me skeptical because maybe the food was anglo-fied. We ordered our food. The waitress ask you from a scale 1-5 the spicy level you enjoy in your food. We chose level 4, because you know it's not good if it's not hot!! We started to eat and boy it was hella fire spicy. I've been coming to Pookies with my dad for years now. It's by far the best Thai food and service in Westlake! Pookie always remembers us and our orders! They have a large menu and everything I've tried from it has been killer. My go-to is their jade curry lunch special, which comes with a side salad and is the perfect portion. The purple rice is a must try too! The restaurant is also nestled in the lower level of a complex with a stream running next to it, which is so nice to sit by on a warm day. I looked this place up for myself and sure enough, this hidden gem was on the map and simply stated, it's located in a spot that you just wouldn't expect a restaurant to be. Nestled in a business plaza with a man-made body of water in the middle of the structure, Pookies Thai is indeed in the perfect spot for those who enjoy a meal that's worth the discovery once found. Thai food is all about the beautiful, fresh, flavorful, & aromatic scents with a hint of spice that will kick your butt if you do not express that you want your dishes to be made mild... And at Pookies Thai in Westlake, that high standard of Thai cuisine that we all have come to expect is served on each plate that they bring out from the kitchen. Our family immediately fell in love with the food and Pookies Million Dollar Smile and GREAT Customer Service. Our cousin who also lived in the neighborhood, soon friends, neighbors, parents of the kids friends were all referred to Pookies. In 2013 we moved to Peachtree City, GA for work. Last time I had the masaman curry which was great. This time I had the monsoon noodles which was also pretty good. Tasted like a healthier Pad See Ew. Some things to note. The regular spice level is normally slightly lower than the restuarants in Hollywood. I have yet to ask for "Thai Spicy" so that might be different. What I do is add the condiments and that brings it up to where I like. Also, plates are single person serving size and doesn't include rice. I'd say the only other place with better chicken is Chick-fil-A! Seriously. From the wonton soup with tender, perfectly cooked pieces (and I can't forget the broth that is soooo tasty) to the satay strips that were grilled with care and seasoned just right to the yellow curry ("California curry") that I literally would have bathed in because of how good it was, every fowl dish was fantastic! I know it is a given that white rice better be good, but even that seems to stand out from the competition. We had an issue ordering online here several years ago, their system accepted the order but when we went to pick it up, they were closed even though their website listed they were open at that time. We attempted to give them another shot today, we called and ordered two items, a Pad Thai and a Malay Vegetables with Chicken. Shouldn't be a problem with it this time except we got home to find that there was no chicken in the Malay Vegetables. My husband called to tell them and instead of apologizing for their mistake, offering to remake it, the woman argued that we didn't mention wanting chicken. Considering you have to choose between chicken, pork, beef, tofu, or shrimp online, you would think they would've asked what protein we wanted or confirmed no meat/vegetarian when we placed the order. The woman wasn't helpful when we said we wanted them to remake it and demanded we bring their mistake of a dish back when we have to drive to their restaurant twice to get our order. Most places would apologize and offer something else for the inconvenience but not Pookies. We should've learned our lesson from their subpar business practices last time but we won't make the mistake again. read more

OH YES TO THIS PLACE! My friends and I absolutely LOVED the Massaman curry. Jam packed with flavor. Loved how they added the cashews for some added crunch. There was also good portion of the meat. I chose beef and wasn't disappointed. The curry itself is on the thicker side, sort of like the curry you would find in HK style cafes. In fact, the taste is even similar! I actually prefer the thicker styles of curry, rather than the liquid texture commonly found in green curries. I'd have to say the rice isn't that best quality. I also tried a bit of my friend's Westlake Boulevard noodles and they were average. Not outstanding, but not horrible. So...GET THAT MASSAMAN CURRY! If you can sit outside, try it!
