The Happy Roll and Tropicana Roll were both tasty (pro tip: make sure you get the Tropicana sauce on it), and the baked green mussels were rich, flavorful, and definitely worth ordering. Nigiri was fine -- solid, but not the freshest compared to other spots in the area. The biggest downside was the service. We had to practically beg just to get water and again to get the check, which really dragged down the experience. It was bad enough that leaving a tip felt tough, even though the food was decent. Anyway, we ordered the following: Green salad, to which we added, a separate order of seaweed salad - yummmm ! 2 orders Galaxy Roll, spicy tuna and cucumber inside, and topped with salmon and avocado - although there is a choice of fish types for the topping. We just chose salmon since it's our favorite. 2 orders Tropicana Roll, which was basically the Galaxy Roll, but it had a spicy creamy ponzu sauce to go with it. 2 orders Crispy Tuna, which was spicy tuna and avocado on top of deep fried sushi rice, served with Sumo sauce. Maybe it's a franchised name? Ordered the edamame and cucumber salad upon sitting because that's mandatory. My kids wanted the bento boxes which aren't on our usual menu. I had a sushi variety from the chef's choice. The bento boxes were huge and included sushi of their choice, teriyaki chicken, white rice and salad. They were delightfully full. My sushi was also great. It's a small dining area with a patio. Really cozy. Probably need to get back out here for those bento boxes. read more

I've been here three times (all lunch on a Saturday) since the state fully reopened. Every time we've been delighted. Exceptional and attentive service, maintaining social distancing with the tables, delivery of tableware after you've sat (to prevent someone from coughing on it as they walk by), and seemingly constant wipe down of surfaces. Sushi Planet is best known for their creative sushi roll selection. While a bit more expensive than the traditional cut role, they are pretty big / large enough that you feel like you're are not over-paying. They always have a specials board with limited selections of very special fishes, such as toro (the famed bluefin tuna that they sell at the markets in Japan). Sushi Planet is a good pick if you want creative sushi rolls, especially if you're visiting with a few people and want to order a variety to share. Just know that this isn't the spot for state-of-the-art sushi... But I think that's to be expected. Some of my favorite rolls are: Firecracker Roll, Oh My God Roll, Love Roll, Tropicana Roll, Albacore Delight Roll and Samurai Roll. They also have a great lunch special for ~$15. You get sushi, sashimi, miso soup and a cut roll. There are plenty of options to choose from. Add a roll to fill you up. I personally think Westlake Village lacks a solid, traditional-style sushi restaurant (yes, I know about Tomodachi). If that's what you're after, I would suggest visiting Shibuya in Calabasas. Came here for the first time and order sushi for takeout. One of my orders was crispy rice with spicy tuna on top. When I arrived home, I noticed that the spicy tune was missing, and it was only crispy rice . I called the store, and they were so friendly and apologized for the inconvenience, and they offer to make a new order for me and that they will deliver it to me. Within 12 min before we finish eating, the restaurant owner came to deliver us the food. I've only been here twice for lunch, but this place is already one of my favorite sushi joints! There is plenty of parking. The employees are all courteous, and customer service is fabulous and quick! They have awesome lunch specials. I particularly enjoyed the avocado roll that I ordered when I first came to this place. I do not drink alcohol, but they offer an impressive variety with their own specials; from what I have read on Yelp, they have a great Happy Hour. I myself liked their Thai iced tea. The only downside that I can think of is that it is a bit cramped. I have so far eaten at the bar, so I have had no issues with the space. Just be aware that it might be a tight squeeze for large parties (say at least 6 people). However, they do offer outside seating. I've only come around lunch time on weekdays, and so far, it hasn't been super crowded. However, it might be a different case at night and on weekends.
