First things first, if Jimmy Abdon recommends a guy, you know he's going to be good! Came to Tom's Auto and A/C after Jim noticed my compressor was rattling like a toy in the hands of an excited toddler. Even though we're not in Texas, having a car without a functioning A/C is a quick way to make driving miserable. As they say, the proof is in the pudding. I can turn on my A/C after the car sits in the noon sun, and have it already blowing cold in a minute or two. This confirmed that Tom's does quality work, and while the parts may cost more, you know everything will work as it should. Being someone who needs A/C to live, worth every penny. I called and was able to make an appointment without a problem. Tom was great about keeping me in the loop about whether he was able to obtain the needed part and let me know when the car was all set. This may seem small, but keeping the customer in the loop is pretty underrated. I also asked to see the old compressor afterward, and they were able to show me what was wrong with it and causing it to make noise. The repair was not cheap, with the compressor alone coming in at around $400. I mentioned that I saw the part for $200-something online. I was told that because they answer for the work, they need to be able to quickly obtain a new part if the one they had was defective. Ordering online would mean us having to wait for a while while the new one comes in, which could take a while. Not to mention I would either be out a car, or there'd be extra labor in assembling/reassembling. The higher price was at least in part due to several markups along the supply chain. read more

Came to have my AC recharged. Was told to drop car off. Pulled car up and walked into where front desk is located. Proceeded to stand there for 30 minutes while 4-5 employees walked by jokes laughed and went about their days. No one asked if I needed anything or if I was picking up or dropping off a car. It wasn't until I walked into the garage I got a lick of attention. Left my car for the recharge and ubered home. I was told it would be done by close. Shop called me at 5 only to start a conversation and then tell me "hold on" I waited on hold for 20 minutes until the phone hung up. I tried calling back and kept getting a VM saying the shop was closed. So here I was unsure of weather my car was done or they needed another day. The conversation didn't even get that far before being put on hold. After waiting another hour for a call back after leaving messages I ubered back to check on the car. Only to find the car unlocked with the windows down in-front of the shop with no one around. After again waiting for 30 minutes someone finally emerged from the booth near the gas pumps. I didn't see him but he had to have seen me standing there for 30 minutes before deciding to assist. Once I got the car home I realized my Apple Watch was no longer in the pocket of the door. I have known Tom for a long time... but I didn't need my own mechanic until October when I had to buy a used car and no longer had access to the other mechanic I was using. Last week I brought my car to Tom because of noises it was making and the need for it to be back to me fairly quickly. I had swung it by a different shop earlier that day and when they said they thought it was the AC compressor I thought I better bring it to Tom. Well turns out it was a faulty alternator that was just replaced in December. Under warranty and everything done completely free of charge. Now he could have been dishonest and told me it was whatever he wanted to, or have charged me labor, etc. But he has always been completely honest with me since day one with this car. read more

Tom is very knowledgable in his field and is one of the most honest people in the business. I don't have enough hands to count all the times he has got me in and out with a quick fix. My family auto shop has a small fleet of rentals and Tom has been our go to guy for as long as I remember. No job to big or small for him. Tom is a true professional and a pleasure to do business with. My regular mechanic recommended Tom a few years ago to diagnose an AC problem. He fixed it quickly and the repair cost was very reasonable. This week, the AC quit working and I called him, explaining that I couldn't leave the car, but asked if I could take a chance on getting him to look at it by stopping in the afternoon. Despite the business being very busy, Tom popped a new relay in for me - out in the parking lot! Within minutes, I was on my way with the AC working! Tom is a wonderful guy! Our AC had been out for awhile and we finally decided to get it fixed and looked high and low for someone with a good reputation on the South Shore. We called in the morning, he said to come by at 2:00 and he was there to greet us with a nice handshake and a great smile. He looked our AC over in less than an hour called us with a very fair quote and a timeline. Sadly, the part for our European car would take four days to get there and we only had two days before we had to hit the road again. We went to pickup the car and asked how much we owed. The total for a full check, his expert opinion, and a work plan was $0. He was not even upset when we said the timeline didn't work for us. I had an awful experience. Made an appointment a week ago, Tom said to bring it in early as he gets there at 6:30 am. I got there at about 7:00 am and first he says " your the guy that called 4 times" I had called twice. Ok He looks at his work sheet and says " I'll try to get to it today but I've already got 12 hours of work in front of me" Ok. Why did he have me bring it in if he couldn't work on it? So, I left and went out to my wife's car, (she had followed me to take me home) and was thinking about what he had said. I was leaving for N.H. Wednesday so was hoping it could be fixed by Tuesday night. I went back in to ask if he thought it would be done by Tuesday night, he reaches for my keys and says no way! Great.
