Stopped by for a walk-in. At least they have a private parking lot for the strip mall. It's antique inside. Smells of an old musty place inside the shop. Old school barber chairs. A bit worse of wear. Classic cut for $30. Hot shave for $30. It's cash only, cash app or Venmo. One staffer would accept cash. Which is it? My husband wanted a cut only since it's cash only and a shave would be an additional $30. My husband knows if his hair is long and he disentangles get his hair cut before a trip, he gets hair cut during our trip by a new stranger. Sometimes it's a good and sometimes it's not such a good cut. It's all a toss of the dice. They give you complimentary beer or water during your visit. Only two staffers working today and both were busy when we walked in. One finished and took another client. The other one that was to cut my husband seems more detailed. We ended up waiting over 45 minutes to get my husband's hair cut. Guy was already in the chair, not surprising. Just a longer wait than I expected. So much for a quick walk-in. The barber took over 50 minutes to cut my husband's hair as well. Our window to get to the museum before they close at 5PM is closing with every passing minute. Looks like we have to change our museum plans since we would have less than an hour and 20 minutes to visit after this visit. Felt a bit annoyed since our afternoon plans got all messed up with this long haircut today. Probably best to come in for a walk-in about 2 hours ahead of having to depart to get a cut with the male barber. All told we were here for over an hour and 40 minutes. It feels like we both should have been able to get our haircut in the same period. The barber (Tom?) is meticulous and tends to take long to complete his cuts. The cut looks good, it just takes a while is all. Has OCD and repeated trimming over and over again. Be prepared if you get a cut from the barber with the red hair and cap with a bear and longer hair. Nice enough guy. We just weren't planning on being here for an hour and 40 minutes for a hair cut. read more

Chris is the best barber in OKC, particularly for beard trims because he received specialized training in that fine craft (and mentioned to me he may be the last of a line of barbers that learned those arts). I just want to respond to one looonnnngg review in here about how one particular barber -- my barber, Luke -- took to give her husband a haircut: Luke takes a little longer than some barbers, but what you get is an excellent cut, meticulously done for a very fair price. This ain't the old Supercuts where you didn't take long in a chair but didn't know what you were going to get, either. All four of these barbers take their time and do a careful, good job with a cut. Checked the hours M-F 9-5, walked in just after 12pm and asked the two employees "who wants some business?" They respond that they're in the process of shutting down for the day. Not an appealing place, reminds me of a dirty west coast skate shop. I go to barbers based on the quality of the work, could not find out the quality of the work, so not going back. Charity called 1pm and offered free haircut which was nice and then lied and said she was there at 910. I went in for a full head shave (I'm bald an egg, see) and face shave. I left EXTREMELY satisfied, and had spent FAR LESS MONEY than I had on my last trip to Carwin's for the same bit of pampering. Crystal was engaging, humorous, and yet simultanouesly extremely conscientious as she shaved my head and face, and the end results were (again) nothing short of wonderful. This place has a retro vibe, yet is also hip and fun. Great selection of music. (Well, other than that dreary bit of Carrie Underwood. Yikes.) My brother and I were wondering what to do on a cold Sunday afternoon. Neither of us get haircuts very regularly. His hair is a mix of straight and curly and I mainly have my wife do an old fashioned clipper cut when it's gotten too unruly. Neither of us speak any lingo when it comes to haircuts so when they asked how we wanted it we weren't much help. I had Joel and went so far as to tell him to just do whatever he thought would be good. He embraced my challenge with humor and even kept my back turned to the mirror to keep me in the dark about what the result of my vague request would be. During the cut all the barbers in the shop are good conversationalists. It's not forced like some places I've been to. When you come to Tom's you're coming for a great cut first and foremost so conversation only happens organically. The atmosphere is old school 1960s barber shop infused with 1980s rock-n-roll. I honestly can't think of a better place to get a hair cut. There aren't many chairs for waiting inside but they move along efficiently so the wait isn't long anyway. And they offer you water, coffee or a beer while you wait. In time they'll probably have to expand a little bit to meet the demand. The shop has been around for a long time but is under new ownership and I think Joel is doing a great job creating a place that is less corporate, more down to earth human, and built on quality of service rather than quantity. It's a place made for regulars but welcoming to anybody who decides to stumble in like we did. I got a classic cut that included a straight blade back of the neck shave for $15. My brother got the same and added a straight blade beard shave and shaping which came to $30. The standard cut includes a menthol rub, hot towel, and some product styling. Although I live in Tulsa, this will likely become my regular place every month or so. read more
