Small Cuban restaurant adjacent to the Exxon gas station right off I-75 on SW Hi484. We stopped to get gas as we were traveling to central Florida and saw the takeout storefront as we drove by. We were pleasantly surprised with the authentic Cuban sandwiches we ordered. They did not skimp on the meat and it large enough to make two meals out of it. We also bought guava pastries and quesitos. They were so yummy. The service was quick and orderly. I guess with how the price of eating out is going up everywhere, this place was a bit pricey too. $42.00 for two Cubans, two guava pastries and two quesitos. Stopped for breakfast on the way to GA and the food looked great! But underwhelming is what we got for about $30. Egg, ham, canadian bacon here oddly, and Swiss on a pressed Cuban is not really that difficult but here somehow all 3 combined for absolutely no flavor. The egg was fried in oil, not butter, so it had a plastic feel to it thats weird when you chew but some salt and pepper would have really helped their obviously cheapest they could buy eggs. Empanadas had to be better I thought! Nope, and the beef one was more mix of something unidentifiable than beef but again no flavor rven with the crappy tobaccobased hot saucethey gave me which was also prettyflavorless. It's possible that it was sitting getting cold, but there was no system or indicators...pick up here...people waiting for orders they put in at the counter, getting their number called. I was anticipating the tang of pickles & mustard, I even looked to see if it had pickles on it. Definitely got the swiss flavor. Croquettes were hot & tasty. Chicken empanada was drier than the beef, both had a lot of bread in around the edges that contributed to the dryness. Maybe the Argentina empanadas are different. Don't let outside appearance fool you, they have excellent traditional Cuban food and delicious Cuban coffee. We took our food to go but they do have a small outdoor seating area. I usually pass by this place often and never tried their menu. It's located at a very busy highway intersection. I'm happy that I decided to try them out this time. The menu is centered around Cuban cuisine. I tried several options of Cuban sandwiches with different side dishes and the Cuban coffee. All was tasty and well prepared with large portions. Service is counter based, mostly to go orders. Prices are reasonable. I believe I will be stopping here often from now on. My husband ordered the Croquet Sandwich and I ordered the Ropa Vieja lunch special. After ordering it took a minute for us to get our food. We ordered our food to go and when they handed us our bag it was heavy. The Croquette Sandwich was packed with meat and had a very good flavor. One half of the sandwich is enough to fill you for the rest of the day. My Ropa Vieja was well seasoned and the maduros were just ripe. For the price you get a ton of food and it's worth every penny. We most enjoy their pastrami, grilled cheese and Cuban sandwiches, the ham crickets, churros, tress leches, flan and potato stuffed balls. The cafe con leche is tasty. Pleasantly surprised to find this place in a town I only seem to know based on watching Law and crime body cam. What's with the crazies in Ocala lol. But if your journey from another state brings you down I 75 in Ocala, and do you want some Cuban coffee, and a guava pastry for good measure take exit 341 and take a right and you'll find this place. It's right beside an active Exxon station so you can fuel up your belly with some excellent Cuban food and then fuel up your car. For some reason, traffic on 484 is madness.
