First time at this location and It's been quite some time in general since I've been to a Tom's. The prime rib was as good as I remembered it to be - meaty and flavorful. Wings were pretty good, with preference for the Korean BBQ over the Buffalo wings. Unfortunately thr ahi tuna tower missed the mark. Rice was hard and tuna didn't taste marinated. In terms of cocktails, the blood orange martini was much better than the espresso martini. Service was great. Definitely hit up this spot if you're looking for somewhere to catch the game or catch up with friends. read more

We went on Sunday to watch the Washington Nationals game. When we came in no one told us the air conditioning was out the fryer was out and we had asked is the game on and then we found out after ordering our food , NO the game is not being streamed!! Well.. this review has to do with hidden charges:, what the heck is a 4% service fee to eat here.. why not just raise the prices 4% . In addition the one seltzer my wife wanted they didn't have. The one they substituted was $4 more. The food was average. The service for being a game day was fast. The place was probably 1/2 to 2/3 full. Staff was friendly and the establishment was clean. Plenty of choices, not sure we would go back. Still upset about the hidden charges. read more

We stopped in after a couple failed pre-Nats game lunch attempts and were able to snag a table right away! Shoutout to our server Edith who took great care of us even though it was insanely busy. We had a couple drinks - the watermelon marg was a bit too sweet for me but the blood orange was great - and split a few apps. The cheese curds are greasy, be warned, but I thought they were perfect otherwise! We also really liked the loaded tots and nachos. I am a tom's watch bar believer. It's the best bar in the city for march madness watching because of the 360 TV experience. The staff are really friendly. The service is prompt. It is a bit loud on the weekends because they have a DJ playing outside but that's fun. When the weather is good, they open the wall of doors and it's a great inside outside feel. I had the chips and queso with added carne asada my most recent visit and it was yummy but the other reviews are right, the cheese isn't thick. Didn't matter to me. read more

This was by far the strangest experience my husband and i ever had in a restaurant. Coming from the NYC area, that says alot. Anyway, we walked in shortly before the Nationals game ended. The place was pretty empty. We were told by the bartender to go to the host station for a table. We went and asked for a table for two. I then had to give my first last name and phone number (typically what a restaurant does on a wait, not an empty restaurant) and then we were taken to our table. Then our server and her trainer came to greet us. They were out of literally everything I wanted to drink and no ahi tuna, oh and there was a $50 hold added to our card (which we were told about) with our order. I get it, people by the stadium I am sure dine or drink and dash but what the hell? We ordered the steak nachos (skip, the meat was nasty) and the calamari (meh). We then had a procession of people asking us every 2-3 minutes if we were OK. Sure, hospitality, but it also felt like we were surrounded by people from the movie Get Out or Smile (fake nice, and we felt uncomfortable or that we needed to leave). They also have security hovering over you, which I also understand given our nation's current climate and the proximity to the stadium but we felt uncomfortable and headed out as soon as we finished eating. Not a place I would recommend but we got a fun story out of it! read more

Tom's Watch Bar is clearly a go-to spot for fans before and after games, and I recently visited for the first time with friends--grabbing drinks both pre- and post-game. Before the game, a friend and I grabbed a table, which meant we were assigned a server. The place was packed, and service was understandably slow. Our server seemed to be covering nearly the entire floor--including both bar sides and the back--which made it feel like the staff wasn't prepared for the crowd that comes with a big game. When another friend joined us for a quick drink, we suggested he order directly from the bar. However, bar staff refused, saying they couldn't take payment since we were seated in a server's section. Even when we asked to close out and move to the bar, we were told we still had to wait for the server. We ended up ordering just one round and then closing out. I understand the intention of not cutting into server tips, but when service is that slow, it becomes a frustrating experience. After the game, we returned to let the stadium crowd thin out. This time, service was a bit more attentive--the server checked in more frequently during our shorter visit, which was appreciated. One thing that stood out on both visits was how hot it felt inside. Before the game, the doors were closed and the space felt stuffy. After the game, the garage-style doors were open, but instead of providing relief, they let in more warm air, making the space uncomfortable either way. Overall, Tom's has a fun, energetic vibe and is clearly a popular game-day spot. Just know going in that service may be slow when it's busy, and the indoor temperature can be less than ideal. read more

I expected the chicken to have a little more flavor being dipped in their buffalo sauce. But it didn't. They don't give you many fries also. My drink was very good. One of my favorite places to watch games, especially during football season! Tom's is easily one of the better sports bars in Navy Yard with tons of TVs, great food, and fast, friendly service. I've been here many times throughout the year, but during any playoffs or game day, this place really comes alive. The crowd is always fun, the vibe is energetic, and the staff handles it all like pros. Food-wise, the pancakes (yes the pancakes) are some of the best in the city! Plus the drinks are strong, shots are solid (get the lemon drop!), and the whole menu is way above average for a sports bar. The only downside? Everyone knows it's great, so it fills up fast. This is especially true on football Sundays. Getting a table for a group can be tricky unless you arrive early. But once you're in, you're set for a great time. This was my first time coming to Tom's so he also provided recommendations and what is popular. I went with the chicken nachos and a Pinot Noir. The Pinot noir was delicious. The nachos were good, but after an hour or so, I was not feeling well. Therefore, it is debatable whether I would come back. But if I come back, I would not get the nachos. read more

Met my friend here on 10/6/24 to watch the Ravens game. I'd never heard of this place before but was itching to get out to watch the game and this place was perfect. Parking on a Sunday can be tricky at navy yard, the blocks are lined with bars and restaurants in addition to the stadiums and the bullpen which is constantly holding events. If you want street parking you'll do a bit of walking. Otherwise you can opt for the metro or pay for the garage. My friend was able to get us seats at the bar which, for a location like this, is ideal. There's seating inside at bar top type tables as well as seating outside. At the time they had a DJ as well as every NFL game on the screens. I'd been craving a burger for weeks and I figured outside of wings and fries a burger is the 3rd best thing to order at the bar. My bartender was Marco. He was cool and checked in often. I ordered: Lemon drop shot - 10/10 Burger - 10/10 - this burger goes down as easily my top 5 ever. It was juicy, the cheese was melted perfectly and it was seasoned so well. I asked for extra pickles on the side and I believe they make them in house. They were thicker and saltier than I'd prefer but I asked for a side of bbq sauce and dipping the burger into that balanced the saltiness of the pickle. Although I live nearby, tonight was my first experience trying to dine in this establishment. Everything was a problem: 1. AC and retractable front doors were broken, so it was hot inside. 2. Soda machine was broken, so the soda was flat. 3. Meal took forever to come (mind you my party of 2 made the # of total guests 8) and came cold. At that point I asked to speak to the manager, which went downhill fast. Suffice it to say calling him "unprofessional" would be putting it QUITE nicely. Smh. Save yourself the trouble. Open late on weekdays to fight those late night cravings! The staff was super friendly and we enjoyed the food. Ample tvs with lots of air flowing throughout the restaurant. Tom's famous prime rib dip: 10/10. The brioche bun was soft and toasted perfectly. The sandwich was packed with meat and the au ju sauce was thick and flavorful. I started with the spinach artichoke dip, which is one of my favorite appetizers, and they nailed it; creamy, cheesy, and served with plenty of chips. For a drink, I went with a spicy margarita. It was definitely on the bold side for me; good flavor, but just a touch too spicy to fully enjoy. Still, I appreciated that they offered something a little different from the usual sports bar cocktails. The atmosphere was exactly what you want for game day: lively but not overwhelming. There were TVs everywhere, so you could catch just about any game, and the place was pretty packed, which added to the energy. The service stood out too. I honestly feel as though this place food wise fits in about the three 3 1/2 zone from what I've experienced using the rating system. That being said though they are definitely 4 to 5 when it comes to service. Our waiter was excellent and the attention that we received while there by all of the staff was excellent. The other thing that makes us place a great place is the ability to watch any game I wanted to watch on a multitude of TVs that they have there as well as entertain those that really are into sports by letting them do the interactive games that they have there such as golf or soccer simulation games. read more

I went to Tom's to get lunch and I was hit with a not so pleasant surprise. First off, the bartender and the waitress staff were nice. This review is not indicative of the job that they did, but the overall decision and management at Tom's. For those who are not familiar with Initiative 82 here in DC, it was designed to increase the minimum wage for tipped employees from $5.05 to match the minimum wage of non-tipped employees. To skirt around this, Restaurants would add a "service charge" or junk charge to your bill to help pay for these costs. Restaurants in DC (Knead Hospitality) has been sued for this practice. I personally tend to avoid restaurants who do this, but I went to Tom's anyway and was okay with paying the 4% service charge. However, when I got the bill I noticed that I was also being taxed on the 4%. I thought this was odd, because typically you're taxed on food and beverages and not on a service charge. I raised the issue to the bartender who eventually raised it to the manager. I was just hoping for an explanation. Is this standard? Am I crazy? The manager refused to listen, got defensive and in his words "I'm not going to argue with you." He said "all restaurants in DC do this and it was printed on menu." I dine out in DC all the time, so his assertion was incorrect , but I was just curious about being taxed on a service charge. A little bit of grace and patience would've been appreciated, but I get it, food industry is tough. Nonetheless, if this is legal or illegal, I don't know. Just a fair warning, you're going to be asked to pay a 4% service charge for no additional services, 10.25% tax on top of that, and expected to pay a 22% tip for the waitstaff. I don't want to kill this place with a bad review because of one little interaction, as I did have a good experience before this incident. I live in the neighborhood and it with soooooooo many options here, there is absolutely a 0% chance that I'll be back, nor would my friends. To use the manager's word "you have to do what you have to do." That I shall. read more

The TV's weren't preset to each game, and there was confusion on what game would be playing on what TV. This resulted in some folks grabbing seats in areas where their game wasn't playing and then struggling to find seats after the fact once the play got more packed. I am not a girlie who enjoys watching sports, but I am a girlie who loves a good bar with good service. I came here with a friend for her birthday and was shocked to see the Louisville vs. Kentucky game on. At the time I came I was not drinking so I ordered some Korean BBQ wings and I loved them. They were reasonably priced, they were delicious, and perfect for the occasion. Service was great! They ran individual tabs even though we were a large group so that was appreciated.
