The tenders were delicious, perfectly fried with a beautiful crunch to it. The fries were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside! Definitely fresh cut fries. Drinks: simple beer on tap! The server, Ariana we think, was more interested in her conversation with the bartender than actually serving. We had to walk to the bar to actually get the check. When asked how everything was (because we didn't see her from the time the food was dropped off until we needed the check) our response was just average. With a giggle her response was " well it is a bar". Hmm. Does being a bar mean not good food? Maybe ask for feedback as to why it was average. Anywho, the fact that we were two of 4 customers in the place should have told us all we needed to know. The burger was small and overcooked. Dry. The onion rings were good. I came here specifically for the happy hour. Draft beers are $5 including draft Guinness. Which is a solid deal anywhere you go. But rather limited options in draft beers. Guinness is the only dark beer on tap. Which seems odd for the winter time. Service was quick in a pretty busy bar. Bar keep Lenny was very friendly. The appetizers are $2 off for happy hour. I got the fried pickles. Which was thin and crispy but the fry oil should be replaced. It had a mild aftertaste. The vibe is a a standard bar with pretty standard bar food. Great place to bring your friends or coworkers. There is bar seating, table seating, and high tops. There is also an upstairs area and outdoor space that is sometimes open. I was staying in the area this week and wanted to find a sports bar to watch some of the World Cup games, especially the US game that was on that evening. This place was it! There are TVs everywhere so no matter where you sit, you can see a TV. The service was excellent. The food was excellent. I had the chicken fingers and they were fantastic. They are served with a honey mustard sauce that is also very good. They had special drinks for the games and even handed out Jell-O shots when the U.S. scored goals. It was a blast! Glad I found it! Stopped in here for a drink, the decorations were plenty and holiday themed so we assumed they would have some holiday drinks....they did not. They should considered some holiday cocktails with how Christmas themed it was in there. We sat ourselves at the bar and the bartender came over pretty quickly. There are a lot of places to eat on the wharf, but on a Sunday afternoon they are all packed. So after I landed I had a craving for wings and a nice place to watch the game I ordered traditional buffalo wings and fries but the wings were not crispy and lacking sauce, as if they were sitting too long and observed what they were tossed in. So, I had to ask for extra. The service was ok, the bartender forgot a couple of items like my drink and the drink was flat.... It's a nice bar, they have TVs everywhere to watch live events and an upstairs as section as well that seemed pretty lively. The projector is nice, it's located on the far wall near one of the entrances, but there's too much light in the day time and you have to alter your seating position just to watch it, you'll see. read more

What started out as a 4 star review continued to go downhill. I want to like this place, and as a resident on the waterfront who loves supporting the restaurants here, I will come back to give it another chance. Seating was prompt and the guy at the door is an ambassador for the place. Friendly, ready to answer questions, and a spare menu in hand to let folks peruse. I like the look of the place. They've added more social seating on the balcony from the previous establishment. Definitely dog friendly with lots of water bowls at the ready. The menu is better than average bar fare and I was happy to see that they offer gyros, which I think is unique at the Wharf. I also upgraded from the fries to the onion rings. This is where things started to go downhill. The food came out promptly, and the Gyro *looked great. Tasty meat, fresh veggies, and tzatziki. But when I took a bite something was off and I picked it out immediately. They'd used blue cheese instead of feta cheese, and wow that made an overpowering impression. Also, the onion rings were overdone (which I can forgive). Probably what bugged me the most is that my server disappeared for long periods. Perhaps she had a lot of tables (the place was busy) so I'll give her the benefit of the doubt. But when the check finally came (which I waited 30 minutes for) I noticed that the bill comes with 20% gratuity added. It feels a little sneaky because the tip line doesn't say, "Additional tip." And I get it... tipping culture in the city can be spotty. But I'd feel better with the establishment paying a living wage, saying that, then leaving an option for additional tip. The current way of doing it seems shady. This first experience was rough. Like I said, I'll give it another shot and either update or confirm. read more

Security lady with short hair was on some power trip or something. After being on the top floor for 3 hours my friend went down the stairs to pee, and she made him leave and get back in line for no reason. I went down and tried to explain the situation and she dismissed me and called a security guard. I got kicked out for absolutely no reason and they didn't even bother to listen, confiscated my drink and ushered me out a side door. This establishment needs to brush up on their customer service, I should not be kicked out for having to use the restroom. Ridiculous. read more

We came to Whitlow's looking for a more casual vibe for dinner. We were able to get outside seating, which is covered and there are fans so you can enjoy even on a very hot day. We are seated quickly and given waters, and our server took our order rather quickly. The mozzarella sticks were huge! But also very cheesy which is a huge plus. We opted to get the burger which had a lot of great flavor. The only downside is that after our food came service slowed down so we were unable to ask for additional drinks and napkins, which napkins are crucial when eating a burger. Overall, if you're looking for a casual summer vibe definitely recommend. read more

Crabcakes and onion rings were one entrée fish and chips was the other entrée. Crabcakes were delicate a lot of fillers, and served on a brioche bun with lettuce and tomato. The aïoli sauce delicious. Onions were white and crunchy. The other meal of fish and chips was a light beer batter style. The french fries had a smoky flavor with a crunchy exterior and a tender interior. The lemon drops martinis served were top-notch. Crown and coke cocktails were flavorful with the bourbon coming through over. Mike, the owner, even had the time to come over to chat with us. It was nice to come into this type of atmosphere of a wharf restaurant and not have table sticking to our forearms as we were resting. The place was clean and welcoming. The starter's wings, 'Dry' as in dried out. The nachos were ordered with chicken and the best part of it were the actual nacho chips I'm not exaggerating. The Coca-Cola product was flat. Whitlows is a shell of its former self. Most of the staff are decent, as are the drinks, but their food is HORRIBLE. Seriously, they really need to fire their kitchen staff and start over. I ordered nachos this evening, and they came out cold! How is that even possible? When I complained they "remade" them, and they were lukewarm at best. Canned jalapeños? Dodgy cheese sauce as well. Seriously, nachos are extremely easy to make and very difficult to screw up, but Whitlow's managed to do so. Note to the owners/management: just because you are on the wharf doesn't give you a pass on basics (I'm not even asking for quality). read more

I think it was a solid spot and glad it took over from the previous tenant. Large screens for sports and quick service- we sat at the bar and ordered cocktails and food. I really liked the quesadilla as it had great flavor, and the bbq sandwich with the onion rings was huge and super flavorful. For "bar food" the food was large and quite tasty, nothing basic in terms of flavor. Their espresso martinis were great and we loved the cosmos with the little rubber duckies. We had a pretty negative experience here. It was extremely busy but we were willing to wait for a table after waiting for about 45, we learned that some tables were 1st come 1st serve. We were told to order at the bar, but the bartender is told to get menus at the hostess stand. We finally got all settled and my husband went to the bar to order, only to be told the whole restaurant was on a limited menu. That wasn't explained to us when we were sat. We remained cool and re-thought our order- my husband placed the order with the bar tender but he never gave us a number to take back to the table or the soda I ordered... we waited for another 20 minutes and it was clear that the bar trended forgot about us and never put in our order. We stopped here on a Saturday as we were out on the boat and wanted to grab a bite in an air conditioned place. Many places were full but we got a table here. I will say I was expecting mediocre bar food, but we were pleasantly surprised. The cob salad had dark greens, large chunks of bacon and was very fresh. The Rachel sandwich had a real chunk of turkey on it versus turkey deli lunch meat. Granted, it was very loud as it was more of a bar, and it was busy, but as for the food, it was better than expected. Our large group (25+) showed up here unplanned after a terrible morning. The Whitlows staff found out our situation and invited us in, even though they were supposed to be closed. They gave us a free round of drinks and some food, on the house. It was a bright spot of shared humanity /community support in a time when that is lacking, and helped turn around our terrible day.
