However, tonight I had one of the most condescending and disrespectful experiences of my life as a customer (no exaggeration) with the manager on duty (the GM was apparently out of the country, "several time zones away." I was there for an alumni Oktoberfest event, and I was socializing with them for a while before going up to the bar to order a beer. I checked in on Yelp and asked if I could redeem the 15% check-in offer, and I never could have predicted that simply trying to place an order with an offer that the business's active Yelp page is promoting would lead to being verbally harassed and yelled at condescendingly by the manager on duty, who was not aware of the Yelp check-in offer but offered no solutions Ans instead went the route of blaming the customer and taking her frustration (from something else perhaps?) out on me, an eager-to-order customer who didn't want any trouble, but was instead lectured rudely about how little I know about how the F&B industry works, despite having worked at a three-Michelin-starred restaurant, and very much being knowledgeable about the field. The Pear Martini tasted exactly like pear so I needed something less sweet. I believe it was a spritz cocktail of some sort. The group shared a pretzel, which was perfection. If you're wondering how many people can split it based on its size... I'd get 2 for our group of 5 men and 2 women. I have to call out the band though. Climb On was on set and they set the bar pretty high for our first night out in Alexandria. This may be inconvenient for some, but I am personally a big fan. I was surprised to see how much food there was to choose from -- though I wasn't eating. Great beer garden! I've been quite a few times and can't believe I hadn't left a review yet...so here it goes... Things I like about the Brig are as follows: 1. They are dog friendly! Like super dog friendly! As soon as you walk in with your pup, someone is already on the way with a water bowl and a treat for the dogs. They even have a puppy menu that includes training treats! While I've never actually ordered the treats...I may or may not regularly order my pup a plain grilled chicken breast with no seasoning so he too can enjoy a nice meal. Hoping they add puppy beer to the menu...::wink wink:: 2. The staff is always really great. Imma sucker for good service and Everyone is always super friendly, attentive and on it! Even when it's super crowded. The food and beer always come out quick regardless of how crowded it is and there's someone there to grab your items when you're done. Chef's kiss! 3. The place is super cute with tons of seating and usually a good playlist in the background. they can get crowded (especially now that the city is opened back up) on a Friday or Saturday evening if the weather is good but I can usually find a spot at the bar so no issues there. There's also a covered section, they have heaters when it's cold outside and some fans when it's super hot. 4. The food is mostly pretty good and the beer selection is pretty extensive. You have your standard bar food with a few extra items on there. I like the beyond burger, the FRIES (so good) and the grilled wings. Those are normally my go-tos here. My friends have tried other items but I stick to what I know. They also have good mock tails! You tell the bar tender what you're going for...and they will whip something up for you. 5. I love their ordering process post pandemic! They use the QR code system and it is sooo efficient. You sit down; scan the code on the table, order your food and a few minutes later...you've got food and/or drinks on the way. I probably pop into the brig at least once a week, especially after tiring my pups out at the nearby dog park. I love that it's dog friendly. I love that it's conveniently located. Getting in this place is a mess. With very little Information on their website. Host is terrible. I rarely ever make a statement like that. Inside: The servers are decent and their covid precautions are some of the best I have seen in DC. But not organized getting in the door. Myself and a buddy walked in asked if we could be seated on a Friday night. We walk up to the hosts at the front. Host said no room gotta wait until people leave. I asked what the wait time is host explained he did not know and you just had to wait for people to leave and "hang around." We hung around out side there was no line or proper guidance. Just another couple still hanging around that got their before us. We crossed the street but stayed close keeping an eye on the people waiting outside and people leaving. I saw 2 sets of people walk in ahead of us and one crowd leave. I went to host and asked why 2 sets of people got to go ahead. He looked at me a said I had to wait around. Outside and that we crossed the street which made us lose our spot. He was not polite in each encounter. He mentioned the 2nd time there is a waiting list.... he failed to mention that before. Not gonna lie, his attitude and failure to explain the process upset me. I don't prescribe to the "customer is always right" rule. But I did try todo my research online and Yelp to see their protocols immediately before entering. He treated me like an idiot but not in the "bless your little heart" way. He put my name on the wait list but did not take my number. As annoyed as I was. I decide to stay "close" and wait it out Bc my buddy vouched for this place. Quickly got seated and this whole situation could have been avoided. Respect is important and servers and patrons should always exhibit respect for each other. The host just did not seem like he was in a good mood. Which put my party and I in a terrible mood. I write this review 2 days later to avoid fresh feelings. But I look back and that experience with the host still tainted the experience with the whole establishment. Inside the service is prompt. Great beer selection and decent bar food. Good atmosphere. They don't rush you along. Socially distant tables are good. We (2 people) sat at a table big enough to hold 6 people. Staff cleaned up after each patron wore gloves. Subpar from start to even after finish. The bouncer said to sit anywhere, but every table has a reserved sign on it, for no reason. Then, after hungrily sitting for eight minutes, I asked the one employee frantically walking around how to order, and she pointed to a QR code at the far end of the table. Instead of just telling someone what you want, ordering requires fussing with a website, and keying in all your payment info before you can even order a beer. No one tells you this until you ask. That would be OK if delivery of items to your table were reliable and prompt, but that is not the case. One of the drinks I ordered never came, and the server instead dropped a couple mystery cokes at the far end of our table, and forgot them there until I pointed that out to 20 minutes later. So I had to go to the bar and ask to get the charge removed, since the website has no option for undelivered items. The refund didn't happen until after I had already left. Two stars because the food is OK, but overpriced for the portion size. Also, the online ordering system doesn't seem to even support choosing toppings or flavors. Meh read more

We hosted a happy hour at the brig -- and had such a great time! Clifton was a breeze to work with; once we confirmed our event date, we paid a deposit that went straight to food orders day-of. We arrived a bit early and found that the tented area had been roped off as reserved--it was the perfect space for nearly 50 guests that came and went over the course of 3hrs. If you're looking for a nice 1L mug of German greatness (in the form of beer), then this is your place to go in DC! The whole establishment is open to the environment--it's basically a big food stand. Their happy hour is M-F 3-7PM and you should definitely come during this time and just enjoy life. I think German beers are underrated and people need to experience the culture of sitting around picnic tables with a huge glass of ichor (look up this word). I would give this joint 4 stars, but it took 30+ minutes just to get some nachos and a hot dog. These 2 items weren't that good and kinda seemed like they were just slopped together. The nachos had too much cheese and the hot dog was just some hot dog. I even ordered a pretzel but it never came. Apparently their computer system was not working properly. All this said, I was fairly annoyed and I'd probably stay away from the happy hour food items and just get something on the regular menu if you for sure want a delicious German dish. read more

Every time I come I get much faster service via this method vs. traditional ordering at other bars. No waiting to order, no waiting to close out. The food here is so-so bar food. The outdoor seating is nice because it's covered and they also had live music while we were there, which made for a really nice ambience... Even though it was a really hot day it was nice and cool within their patio. One of the things I really enjoy is that each table has QR codes so each person at the table can order (and pay for!) their own drinks or food and you don't have to worry about splitting checks or getting up to order at the bar in between rounds or anything. You just order what you want and then like magic it appears a little while later. While I was there I tried there Frozen Orange crush, which was dangerously delicious and only nine dollars. I didn't really taste the alcohol until after my second one when I got up to go to the bathroom. For food it seemed like a bunch of Yelpers had suggested trying the pretzel, which I did. It came with spicy mustard and cheese to dip it in. I thought the pretzel was decent--nothing super special but it definitely hit the spot. There's truth in The Brig calling itself Capitol Hill's hidden beer garden. Since it's just north of Navy Yard and just further south down Barracks Row than most venture, many Hill residents haven't noticed it. However, once they do, they'll make this spot their regular hang out. Here's why: 1) The space: It's a large entirely outside beer garden that's open year round. You'll pass through the gate flanked by two lions in blue and white checkered clothes into the beer garden. There are plenty of large tables outside and a bar that is covered, but still outside. Don't worry. There are plenty of umbrellas to keep the sun from roasting you (or drying up your beer). There's a large bar with seats if you want to by the three large TVs. Since its dog and kid friendly, there's a space off to the side for both to play in. 2) Beer list: They have 20 on tap (with a good local selection), many in bottles/can, and even have a cocktail list. What impressed me is having not one, but TWO, hard ciders on tap. All drinks from the tap come in all glass options including a massive beer stein. The prices are decent for expensive DC and the food menu growing bigger each month. They sell burgers, brats...a lot of beer garden food. This was the first time I've been here because of word of mouth from a few people I happened to chat with. The atmosphere wasn't that bad. Some of the beer seem to be overpriced for a few that were sold that were from a brewery 5 minutes away. NASHVILLE SPICY chicken was just above mediocre, basically breaded chicken tender on a bun with coleslaw and spicy sauce slapped on, the frieds were the best. So, with this QR code ordering system charge 0.50 cents to place the order and non existent service except for the person that brought food from the kitchen and the bartender who opened my can of beer (my fault, I thought it should have came in a glass or atleast given a glass) should there be a 18 to 20 % tip? 3 stars because the fries were good and the beer to help me balance out the hot chicken sandwich. read more

Go for the beer, not the pretzels. Someone told me about this place a few months ago and I keep forgetting it's down there. I'm always over on 8th but had never gone south of the interchange. For comparison purposes, Brig is kind of like a mini Frankford Hall. Lots of seating available at picnic tables or up at the bar. The weather was gorgeous and they had an awesome dude playing acoustic guitar which made it even better! Great beer list and they've got the huge steins. They do have a full bar as well if you're not feeling like a beer. The food is where they got me. We just had lunch but HAD to try a pretzel. It was terrible!!! It literally tasted like the kind you get from the freezer section. It basically tasted like bland cardboard and there wasn't even a single sprinkling of salt on it. The mustard and cheese sauce were both good but seriously, stay away from the pretzel. Absolutely was not what we were expecting at all. I have no idea about the other food on the menu but I'm hesitant to give it a try. Everything else was great just as long as you don't come here for pretzels lol!
