Mission is one of my favorite places to stop in Navy Yard when I'm in the mood for good Tex-Mex, great margaritas, and a fun atmosphere. The energy is always lively, especially on game days, making it a great place to meet up with friends before or after an event. The food is consistently good, the portions are generous, and the margaritas never disappoint. The tacos and appetizers are always solid choices, and the service has generally been friendly and attentive. The only reason I'm giving four stars instead of five is because it can get very loud and crowded, which sometimes makes it hard to have a conversation or get quick service during peak hours. That's part of the atmosphere, but it's something to keep in mind. Overall, Mission delivers exactly what it's known for--a fun vibe, tasty food, strong drinks, and a great location in Navy Yard. Tried Mission for the first time tonight. Came for the World Cup as they advertised game specials. The games were on the TVs, but not with the game sound (music was on). No problem, I just put the streaming coverage in my earbuds. I sat at the bar. They had both happy hour and the game specials on the menu. The waitress was friendly although not all that attentive. More interested in chatting with other staff and playing on her phone. Disappointing for service but not all that surprising these days. Margaritas were fine, weak as is common with happy hour offerings. The jalapeño one was my preference. I order a few different tacos and the rolled tacos but they brought me wings ‍. Everything was delicious. It was not busy on a Saturday early evening although it was raining out. I suspect this is not usual and would be much busier later. I will likely come back as I live in the Navy Yard and it was on balance good food and average otherwise. Revised my review! I ordered something on happy hour and they brought me wings. Waitress noticed after I ate the wings (I wasn't mad about it, figured it got entered wrong and I like wings). Nope, she confirmed it was entered correctly, the kitchen made the error. She went back and revised the bill and charged me full price for the wings I did not order. Bad form! The appropriate response would at least have been left it at the cheaper price of what I ordered, middle of the road is send me home with what I ordered to go and eat the error, or best case remove the item I didn't get from the bill and eat the error. The right answer is not charge the customer for an item he did not order because it was a restaurant error. Doesn't change my opinion of the food but definitely does about the service. Came into mission for brunch before a nats game on a weekend. We made a reservation beforehand and were escorted upstairs to a table. The interior is quite spacious with a modern feel. The upstairs bar is also very large and there was live music playing. Our server was helpful and quick, the prices were reasonable as well. My breakfast bowl was delicious, it had eggs, cheese, chicken, and tortilla strips in it. The green sauce was a little too spicy for my liking but overall it hit the spot. My friends tacos looked and tasted delicious. The bathroom lights were cool and the area was well maintained. Loved this location because of how close it is to the stadium and bull pen! Skip this place before large events at Nat's Stadium. Went here for dinner before a concert. The service was awful and slow! 20 minutes before anyone approached our table, food took forever to come out, drinks took 20 minutes. We ordered the tres amigos appetizer. It arrived with a half basket of chips, small portions. We asked 4 times for more chips, which came at the end of our meal. What should have been an hour end-to-end visit took 2.5+ hours! Mission at the Navy Yard stands within steps away from Washington Nationals Park. Prior to my visit, I do recognize other options were favored based on recent reviews, but I took the chance, and I do regret it. Be it an off day or the standard of service in this restaurant, Mission was not it for me. Disappointing. On the day of my visit, IDs were being checked at the door. And it went downhill from there. Arrived on the 2nd floor and was told service would be quicker sitting at the bar versus at the bartops. The bartenders on the day of our visit seemed really spaced out. It may be the combination of bombardment of crowds from the game and heat, it has been a while since I received service with very poor interaction. Cold, hesitant, and impatient. Orders were simple, as offerings of the day are simple. Nothing complicated, but chips, salsa, and tacos... the meal was bland and passable. Goodness gracious, no thank you. My wife and I decided to go to Mission Navy Yard before a Nationals game. We decided to sit at the bar and order some food and drinks for brunch. We were immediately given two glasses of water while we looked over the menu. While looking over the menu and deciding what we wanted, we noticed that there were numerous people coming to stand beside and around us to order drinks and food. We also noticed that the bartenders at the bar were also serving the tables that were behind us as well. We were surprised to see that there were not waiters serving those tables. Because of this, you had people who were sitting at the tables behind us getting up and coming to the bar to order food and drinks, as well as people in general, walking up to the bar to order food and drinks. This made things very chaotic. As me and my wife were attempting to place our order, the bartenders continued to prioritize people who were coming to the bar after us. This went on for about 10 minutes. I then went to the hostess on the first floor and asked him if we could go upstairs. He said that we could go upstairs no problem, but it would be a similar situation to ordering like it was downstairs. I asked him will we be able to get a table upstairs and have a waiter instead of attempting to order food and drinks at the bar like we are doing downstairs? He told me that if we were to go upstairs we would still have to order our food and drinks at the bar. After waiting for about another five minutes and continuing to be ignored at the bar, I decided that I had enough and told my wife that we were leaving. This is a horrible concept! Having bartenders serve people at the bar is one thing. But, to also have those same bartenders serving numerous tables as well, to the point where the people who are at the tables have to come up to the bar and place their food and drink order, is madness. Especially when the bar and the whole downstairs level is packed before a Nationals game. This is very inefficient and leads to a horrible customer experience. Also, if this is going to be the concept that you go with, you will need more than just two bartenders to be able to handle that amount of traffic. read more

My only complaint was that it was so loud inside. We could barely communicate with our server. We were not told how or if we could sit outside. A fun place to end the evening with dinner. After going over to enchant at Nats park a few friends and I went to Mission. Definitely a cool vibe in restaurant part and also there was a bar area but we had someone under 21 with us so we had to go to the restaurant which was totally fine. We started with some quaso and chips. Which was pretty good. Had a nice heat to it along with gooy cheesy. Would recommend starting with it. I got enchiladas with Carnitas. It was well cooked with cheese full melted along with the carnitas. The carnitas was well seasoned was just a little over done and tasted a bit dry. It was well balanced with the enchilada sauce which was the star of the dish and created a great balance of savory and spicy. My friends got tacos and the dinner burrito. I was early for a presentation i had to give in the area, and there was going to be no gluten free food there so i stopped at mission for tacos and a margarita. When i saw they had a guy at the door checking ids i got excited because that usually means its a vibe. There was only 7 of us in the bar area downstairs but i kept seeing people go upstairs for brunch, and the music sounded like a dj. It was afro beats and hip hop which hyped me for my presentation. Tacos were bomb but they took a little while - guessing the place was packed. The strawberry margarita was good. The water cup tasted like it had remnants of previous fruit drinks in it - like on a cruise ship on the pool deck w their plastic cups. The food and vibes here was lit! We came after the Nats game cause apparently this is the hangout spot after the game ends. We were able to find a table for 7 of us. The food was unexpectedly really good and the drinks were great as well. When you go up to the second floor it seems less like a sit down spot and more like club vibe.
