A solid spot before a Nats game, be warned there is a lot of stairs and when we came on a Wednesday, only the rooftop was opened. It was mostly in the shade which was a huge plus on a hotter day. Bar service is ok, it was slightly busy but a bit chaotic. They had a HH so we got a frozen pina colada and a beer - the pina colada didnt have too much flavor but it did have a a pretty strong liquor flavor so at least you didn't feel like it was all sugar. We ordered some fries and I swore they had truffle fries on HH but I guess it was truffle tots but they were able to put together a variety of truffle fries, it was just like a truffle dip on the side and not like the fries mixed in a truffle salt or whatever. Got to the front door and a heavily "tactical equipped" doorman. It seems we upset him by not properly cueing in an empty line. After getting past this transgression, we asked if we could eat dinner (early ~4pm) and were stopped since we had a less than 21 yr old and he wasn't sure that we could go. Now enter the manager. Manger comes down and says we are fine to come in since we are with the event. We were not. At this point, we gave up and walked away. There is a metro, buses, and a parking lot across the bar, which always works great for friends coming from various locations after work. The seating was first come first serve, and we had no issues getting a table. We ordered our drinks and food at the bar and you are given a number so your items can be delivered to your table. Everything came out in a timely fashion. The menu is limited and sticks to your bar food items (think tater tots, chicken wings). To preface, if you open a tab, it automatically charges $50 to your card. I feel as though that should be explained prior. Additionally, it is stressful to have to confirm you have received your refund. The fries were tasty and the drinks were flavorful, which really made me hopeful that we would have a fun experience. However, as we were ordering more off their menu, my friend was met with hostility from the bartender that was uncalled for. My visit here was definitely an experience. The music was good, the drinks were decent but the crowd was amazing. When we first arrived we landed on the 2nd floor but after ordering drinks decided to go upstairs to the rooftop. Big mistake because it was over crowded and extremely hot. After 10 minutes we went back downstairs where it was much less croweded with a great group of patrons. Everyone was extremely friendly, singing and dancing to the music. I was offered drinks by a couple times by other customers just because. It was more of a community vibe versus the crowd upstairs which seemed more like a networking cocktail party. First impression: what a vibe! Location: this location is in Navy Yard right next to the Nats Park garage. Easily metro accesible on either train or bus! Venue: the second floor was GORGEOUS. The wrap around bar, beautiful decor and numerous windows gives the place some beautiful lighting at sunset. We went to the rooftop before the Nats game ended (we didn't know there was one happening) and were able to order our food and drinks before the huge rush of baseball goers flooded the space. It was cool to see how lively its gets but can definitely be a little overbearing for a small space even if outdoors. We were able to find a table with seats and enjoyed everything. I believe our drinks were $14 and the boneless wings not more than $15. I think we got like 6 decent size pieces on each of our plates and were full when we left. I have to say, THIS is the better Takoda! I really enjoyed the atmosphere here, the staff here are very friendly too. Prices are decent for the area, my boyfriend was a fan of the 6 shots for $36! We got a table and we were presented with the game "Truth or Drink", which made the experience even better. The Manager Daniel took us upstairs to view the rooftop and was super helpful, he even let us know about upcoming events and our options for renting it out. The rooftop was dead on a Sunday before a soccer game. The rest of the bar was closed so you can only go to the rooftop. Charged me $4.50 for a flat diet coke. I have NO idea why or how they have such good reviews. My sister and I came to grab a drink on the way home tonight. A RAIL vodka was $15 and if we wanted a High Noon or White Claw, $12 for one. Great location, they have two floors and the top one is a rooftop. This bar is great for happy hour or catching the game. They are within a 5 minute walk from the Nationals Park. They have a small simple menu of bites like loaded fries, boneless chicken wings, fried pickles and tater tots. They also have a variety of cocktails on tap like the Takoda Mule and Fun In The Sun. I've been here twice after a game and twice I feel like I've been robbed. When paying they don't show you the itemized price before they run your card, just hand you the handheld with the tip screen. The first time I came here I paid about $60 for 2 beers and 2 shots, which seemed like a lot but the bar was so packed I didn't bother to ask for a receipt. The second time I was there the bartender ran my card at the POS, no receipt, no signature, no tip, I later found out I was charged $50 for 1 beer and 1 shot (A draft beer and a shot of Jameson, nothing fancy). This can't be a coincidence. The rooftop is fun but make sure you're asking for an itemized receipt. I personally will not be returning, these experiences left a very bad taste in my mouth. read more

This is an extremely racist and problematic establishment. A friend and I went to enjoy drinks on a Saturday night. As we waited in the restroom line, one of their employees bumped into me twice. The first time I said, it was OK, the second time, I respectfully told the man to say excuse me. He then proceeded to give me a threatening stare and I stared back. He walked off and reported me to the manager. The manager then walked up to me and was being extremely hostile. I told her that I wanted to speak to her higher up and she called security to escort my friend and I. When I refused to leave, the higher up came, I explained what had happened and he apologized, but failed to re-compensate my friend and I for the disturbance. We were still asked to leave and overall it was an extremely uncomfortable and disrespectful situation. Directly across from Nats stadium, this newer Takoda rooftop is a vibe. Anything more quintessential DC than a spot that does both rooftop and brunch? Don't think so. Location: Accessible via metro and by the stadium. There are two floors (main floor indoors and rooftop above) and they are both inviting, with large fully equipped bars that capture the eye upon walking in. If you're a solo drinker, you would not feel awkward in this space at all. Drinks: As a frose-all-day kinda gal, I appreciated the different flavors they serve. Unique and punchy compared to other businesses nearby. Pricy like the rest of Navy Yard. Food: Surprisingly, the chicken and fries appetizers stood out. Yes, "basic" but they use chicken thighs and have a house garlic aioli to pair it with, making these two items a must try. Service: We complicated the service a bit having to move outdoors to indoors due to rain. I couldn't taste the difference between the margarita and the mojito. The chicken tenders were decent, not amazing but not horrible. I went for brunch and sat on the rooftop which offered a cool atmosphere and a great view. The cocktail menu was large and offered a good variety of drinks- I ordered a freaky tiki. The food was extremely average- I ordered the smoked pork hash which was pulled pork on top of potatoes. The potatoes were essentially frozen potatoes you buy from the grocery store and slightly fried. This made up the majority of the entree + a very rubbery/overcooked egg on top.
