He was able to correctly identify the problem by hearing/ seeing/ doing a quick manual test in a matter of minutes. I have taken my car here three times and am NEVER upsold on stuff. The dealership told me twice that I needed a catalytic converter (to the tune of a couple thousand dollars), but the folks at Incognito have diligently made necessary smaller repairs first to rule out all other offenders before selling me a new one. It's been 2 years, and I still haven't needed a new cat. The only downside is that it's a crowded lot on a residential street, so there's a lot of car jockeying and sometimes you have to go for a bit of a walk to get to your car. And unlike the dealership, they take weekends off. But honestly, that is a minor inconvenience when you have an honest tech you can trust.

We stopped using them years ago, because they fix something and charge you $1,000 without asking for approval. So, if you go there for inspection, they charge you to replace a radiator which breaks within a year. Another time they fixed the wrong lock in our door. They made us pay for fixing the locks on the right and left hand side. Plus, they made us run to the locksmith and get the parts. It took them a month to fix our car that time. We live super close, and we could have parked our car in our driveway for 2 months. Dave won't accept responsibility, and he just blamed us for our car being parked on the street and not getting fixed. He has the only set of keys for the car, so I'm not sure what he thought we were suppose to do with our non working car.
