This is my experience with Ultra Vision. While speaking with the coordinator and making an appointment for an examination I told him my circumstances demanded my insurance pay 100% of all charges related to my upcoming cataract operation. He said he understood and in fact my insurance would pay all costs associated with my operation. After an examination from Dr. Starck I was led to the coordinators office and he greeted me like I was a long lost friend which was very odd as I had never seen this man before. While signing several pages of agreements and forms there was a sheet that wanted me to agree to pay $1000.00 that day for the upgraded lens the doctor wanted to use that was not discussed during the conservation with the doctor. When I questioned the coordinator and reminded him about my desire to have my insurance pay 100% of all charges to which he had agreed to, he said he had told me of the charges during our telephone conversation. I said I was happy with the standard lens which my insurance company would pay for. He then said the doctor always uses these lens and does not vary from using them. I told him that was not acceptable and then he offered to pay $750.00 using his personal credit card if I paid $250.00 that day. When I refused his offer he said I could borrow the money from a company called Care Credit and he would co-sign if necessary. This all sounded so scam like and unprofessional I left Ultra Vision and found a more professional Ophthalmology Center. Ultra Vision seems like a great place to stay away from. read more

While other companies offer a free exam to determine eligibility for lasik, this one charges several hundred dollars for the exam.

This review is for Ultravision Eye Care optometry doctor and the optical glasses sales combined. Stay away. Nothing but headaches between the visits and billing. Its overpriced care and sales for no value at all. I had an issue with the doctor visits and decided this year to just use the optical center for glasses and it was a big mistake. Will not be coming back and I suggest you don't either. First, The doctors visits here were by appointment. They never kept within the time. They will move you from the outer waiting room to the inner waiting room. I had to ask after 1-1/2 hours why I had not been seen yet. Each doctor visit they messed up on my vision prescription. What do I mean? They added unnecessary magnification to one of my eyes. I have never had one eye be so out of normal that I asked them to redo my prescription/exam as the person doing it seemed confused. That year it went up only 0.25 instead of 3.00. The next year the same mess and went up another 0.25/0.50. I skipped one year and came back for only a contact exam as I had just purchased glasses . They billed me and my insurance for a full glasses and contact exam plus fitting fees. Why are you trying to charge me when there is a small copay I just paid at the front desk. I made it clear at booking what I was coming in for exactly. At that point I decided to go to Costco for my future eye exam and what do you know? My prescription went down to what it was 5 years ago. Second, I decided to give the optical glasses sales a second chance since I had a previous positive experience. So with my Costco prescription, I went into Ultravision and tried to find glasses. I had them pull the insurance and we went through all the details and I still have all the information on my phone. I agreed and paid my portion that day ( after the explanation of benefits). They billed close to $600 and I paid close to $200. Months later I get a bill for almost $70. That means I am paying $270 out of pocket. YOU can buy glasses somewhere else for that amount with no insurance. Besides that I didn't end up liking the tinting they insisted I add to my glasses since my insurance covers it. I had to go back multiple times over and over to try to resolve the glasses issue. They also charged for lightweight and super thin lenses and they are FATTER than my same glasses I purchased years ago from them (same brand everything)! I showed them too! I ended up giving up and I am paying the remaining portion and warning everyone to just stay away. Go to any other optical place. They are not honest, nor worth working with. They will mess up your prescription and push you to their laser/lasik treatment. I was there in the optical glasses area (previously) where an old man over 60 was trying to just get lenses changed out and he mentioned he had just had the exam and his prescription just kept going up. He only wanted glasses and not lasik/laser ( it just reconfirmed my same experience there). I hate writing negative reviews but I have given them more than enough chances to correct the issues and its not worth the time to resolve it. (Just got a call from them) Just got back from paying the balance. All the new paperwork is different than the old. That is why you keep everything and take pictures with your phone. The old paperwork says the total bill was $590 all in and the new one they must have billed the insurance says $730 all in. That is why I owed money, because they obviously changed service and billing codes to get more money. Stay far away! read more

Dr. Stark gave me an amazing gift, that I thank him for every day. I am not kidding. I am a physician as well as a high myope with my correction being almost double digits with an associated bad astigmatism. I have had to wear glasses since elementary school, my eyes being so bad I had to have specially made lenses because I would get a lot of distortion if they were even a little off. With corrective eye surgery becoming common I had hoped for year that there would be a surgical option to correct my vision. About every year I would check and be I would be told that I was not a candidate for corrective surgery. The issue was that my vision was so bad that my cornea was not thick enough to correct for how bad my prescription was. Things only got worse when I hit my mid 40's and I started needing increasingly strong reading glasses. Prior to this if I put my glasses down I could see up close and find them. Once my near vision started deteriorating I could not find my glasses unless I knew where I had left them. For me being extremely independent it was pretty scary. Soon after having an episode of getting out of the shower and not being able to find my glasses where I put them down, I took care of a patient who described themselves as having vision similar to mine and having it corrected by Dr. Stark. I was hopeful, but skeptical after years or prior disappointments in not being a candidate to be surgically corrected. I made an appointment with Dr. Stark for an evaluation. The evaluation included a full battery of tests that included not only trying to correct my vision, but of my eyeball itself. For the last several years the best vision I was able to obtain with correction was 20/30. At Dr. Starks his technician was able to correct me to 20/15. After all the tests I met Dr. Stark who reviewed all the results and to my surprise said that he thought he could correct not only my distant vision, but also my near vision as well. He said that the correction that the they were able to get of 20/15 was what they were shooting for with surgery. I then went to several other ophthalmologists. and ended coming back to Dr. Stark, after they did not think they would be able to correct both my far and near vision. I had two procedures done and after healing I am now 20/15 and have been for several years. I continue to go back for yearly exams as I am still a high myope, just one who has corrected vision. Again, I can't tell you how grateful and how much Dr. Stark has changed the quality of my life each and every day. read more

My wife had cataract surgery on both eyes and still blury after the two surgeries. Went in several times and Dr Starck said it is normal and will get better. We'll it did not get better so we went in again which is the fourth time and this time he said she needs YAG SURGERY. so we asked how much it would be with the insurance and would be NO CHARGE and behold we are charged $ 500.00 dollars with no explanations and still as of today my wife still has trouble seeing. She is very frustrated and is very depressed. My wife's best friend recommended Dt Tomy and she had cataract surgery and still has problems so the Dr recommended YAG SO she went to get a second opinion and they told her it was not needed. My husband and I both had intraocular lens replacement surgery on both eyes 7-8 years ago. My husband's surgery was a success, mine not so much. My reading vision is bad enough I have to ask my husband to read small print for me. But, my real issue is that during a post annual evaluation he threw his pen across the exam room hitting the wall before bouncing around on the floor. He had just asked me if I had been using my eye drops (just like over the counter eye drops ). So, zero on communication skills for throwing a temper tantrum, not to mention common courtesy to someone who has paid for your expertise. read more

I've been coming to this office for my regular check ups and I've always been told that I should get LASIK done. After I did some research, I found that Dr. Stark is ranked as one of the best (top 10) LASIK surgeons in San Antonio. My cousin, who is an Optometrist in LA, did some Intel and also found high ratings for Dr. Stark. So, I decided to go with it. The price is a little more experience compared to other doctors, but it's my eyes and I was more than ok with paying for quality and getting it done the right way the first time around. I met with Dr. Stark the day before my surgery and he went through the procedure with me and all the expectations. Surgery day came and everything went fine. I had a check up the next day and we had some minor concerns and was asked to come in the following day. Regardless, I felt like I was taken care of during the entire process. The staff at this place is amazing. Jennifer is responsible for setting up LASIK appointments and made everything super easy. She even called me the night after my surgery to check on me and gave me her cell to call if I needed anything. That's what you ac service!!!! My only complaint is that waiting for my follow ups were lengthy at times. But, I got over it quickly when I was advised that I have 20/15 vision!!! Woohoo!!! I had LASIK eye surgery exactly seven days ago. For one week, I have been thinking about how to review this life-changing experience. How can I put into words the miracle of being able to see as soon as I wake up? The truth is this: I can't describe how wonderful and life-changing Dr. Starck and the bladeless LASIK surgery was for me. As a type one diabetic, I was always told LASIK was not an option for me. However, at my regular eye doctor appointment with Dr. Richard Delay, he asked me if I had ever considered LASIK because I would be a perfect candidate. I was shocked. He told me the only doctor I should let do my LASIK procedure is Dr. Starck. Months later, I had a free consultation with Dr. Starck who said I could have LASIK. He is very confident, kind, and professional. He told me exactly what to expect. I scheduled it for a few days later. Before I go any further, I have to brag on Dr. Starck's refractive coordinator, Kimberly. She made me feel comfortable because she had undergone surgery with Dr. Starck a few months previously. Also, she told me my surgery could be performed while being shown live on Facebook if I wanted to become an "Ultravision Ambassador." How cool is that? I am comforted by background noise so having Kimberly walking around during the surgery was going to help my nerves tremendously, especially because she has such a "cool mom" personality. The day of surgery came. Thirty minutes before my surgery, I took an optional prescription Xanax to take the edge off my nerves. The truth be told, I was not nervous because I had watched live videos of Dr. Starck performing the surgery and read all the reviews. Everyone said it was painless and quick. You can watch my surgery live on Facebook! It truly was quick and painless. Dr. Starck told me exactly what he was going to do at every step so I was not surprised by anything. Truly friends, I did not experience any pain!! I experienced pressure when the lasers were creating the flap, but it really was not that bad, I promise. Dr. Starck's main priority (besides safety and efficiency, of course) was my comfort. Unlike other LASIK practices, Dr. Starck gives patients Ambien after so they can go home and sleep after the surgery as the eyes begin to recover. If you are awake during this time, you will experience tearing, burning, and other horrible symptoms. Thanks to the great concern of Dr. Starck, I did not have to experience any of these symptoms because I was asleep. The after-care consisted of three separate kinds of drops 4x a day. The next day, I had a follow-up appointment with Dr. Obina, an OD. I have never met another eye doctor that I like as much as my regular eye doctor, Dr. Delay. However, Dr. Obina came very close! He thoroughly explained and informed throughout my follow-up appointment. Despite being young, he seemed extremely well educated on any eye issues you could ever have. I went from having 20/400 vision in both eyes to having 20/15 vision in both eyes. I think I may be Dr. Starck's biggest fan. 5 stars is not enough stars to give him and his wonderful staff. Dr. Starck is THE BEST LASIK SURGEON. There is no doubt in my mind. Take it from someone who has to be held down to put drops in her eyes: Dr. Starck is outstanding. He is a miracle-worker. Going from 20/400 to 20/15 has been an unbelievably life-changing experience and I guarantee it was even better because I was operated on by Dr. Starck. I have been coming here for the past 3-4 years for eye injections. It has gone down hill since I started. Appointment times set for 3:00, they don't call me back until 4 to get started maybe will numb my eye by 4:30 then I'm out by 5:00. This is every appointment. They seem to also not be able to keep their staff as it is always changing. The new staff members may be nice but they are clueless, which is an uneasy feeling going in for an injection. They have even marked the wrong eye to be injected. Today was the straw that broke the camels back and I couldn't sit in that waiting room any longer listening to the two nurses flirting talking about Ojos locos while I sit there for an hour. I go to walk out and the waiting room was empty, I was the only one there. Why would they keep me waiting? They lost a loyal paying customer. Bad business, an apology just won't cut it any longer. I had an appointment with Dr. Tony Urbina and let me tell you, it's an amazing experience. He was kind, and extremely educated on my eye issues. Being a young man with astigmatism and eye problems, he was quick to educate me on my eye issues and also quick to recommend contacts that offered me the comfort I needed. The office is GORGEOUS and in one of the best areas of San Antonio. I have always offered my recommendation to Dr. Urbina on multiple occasions. I liked the doctor and office staff very well. I saw Dr Starck on a Tuesday and had cataract surgery on Thursday. It has been almost a year since I did the surgery. I can see better than before. I just got regular lens put in. The Dr. can't believe how well I have done. I could see so much better after the first surgery I had the next one done the next week. I could see even better. I was refrred to Dr. Starck in March of 2012. My left eye was infected from a bad lasik job that I had gotten in California. Dr. Starck took a bunch of pictures, and then prescribed some medicine. The next day, my eye was no better. I went back to Dr. Starck, and he prescribed more medcine. My eye did not get better, so I found another Dr. who treated it correctly. When I went back to Dr. Starck's office to get my medical records (for a possible lawsuit against the first Dr.), I was charged $25.00 for them to copy my medical records! $25.00!!! Are you kidding me? Place is kind of run down, carpets need cleaning, etc. This looks like a money-grab for medicade patients. Don't take your vision here. read more

If I could give UltraVision/Tomy Starck/Ricardo Sepulveda/Lois Williams a NEGATIVE rating, I WOULD. I requested at least six times to get how much the surgery is going to cost. I wanted a breakdown of what my insurance will be paying and how much I will be paying. And SIX TIMES they have refuse to give me that into. I have filed a complaint with the Texas Attorney General. I called to make an appointment for my daughter. The lady who answered the phone was so rude. Here's how it went: Me: Hi! I'd like to make an appointment for my daughter. Starck's lady: What insurance do you have? (Not, "What is your daughter's name?") Me: Umm, TriCare. Starck's lady: Which one, Prime or (can't remember the other choice she gave me but she said this snotty-like, like I was a dufus for not stating this in the first place.) Me: Prime, I think. Starck's lady: When did she last have her appointment? (We still haven't even established who the patient was) Me: About a year ago, but it doesn't matter. I'll pay for the appointment. Starck's lady: Hold please. Then I get some other lady who's apparently been informed of the guy who doesn't seem to know what insurance he has and is getting upset and wants to pay for his appointment out of pocket. She also has an attitude but finally asks what my daughter's name is. Then she informs me that we were there a year ago and my insurance won't pay for the appointment. I told her I realize this and would still like an appointment. I made an appointment because I was desperate (waited til the last minute) and then found Trinity Vision in Boerne instead. When I told my daughter this story she replied, "Good. I didn't like them anyway. The people that work there are rude." I was surprised because, before the phone conversation, I didn't remember my daughter having that experience, but apparently, SHE did. In a nutshell, it's disheartening when a medical facility treats you as an insurance plan first, and a patient second. read more

After setting an appt. and went in for my consult I knew this was the place for me the staff was really really nice and polite. Dr. Starck performed cataract surgery on me in October of last year. I have gone for all of my regular checkups since the surgery. On a visit in February that I had with one of the associate doctors in his practice, I complained of a dark spot on my eye in the sight of my vision and explained that it had appeared 3 days before this visit and had not moved. I was told that I had a "floater" and that it would either go away or I would get used to it. I waited 4 l/2 moths for it to go away or for me to get used to it. Neither has happened. I made an appointment with Dr Starck to get his opinion on the issue. I arrived at the for this appointment on time. After waiting one and a half hours I inquired if the good doctor was actually in office. After about 10 minutes I was admitted to an exam room where an assistant examined my eyes , had me read the eye chart and had me explain the situation to her. After about another 45 minutes Dr. Starck finally made his appearance and I explained the situation to him and also explained to him that I was also suffering because my eye always felt like it had grain of sand in it, my vision was blurry and I had difficulty reading and driving and it was interfering with my life. The doctor examined my eye and said I had a floater and there was nothing to be done it. I told the doctor that I had had floaters before but they never make my vision blurry , make me see double or shadows around objects. At this time he asked me if I had palsy or any nerve damage to my facial area. I told him that I had not , he became argumentative and said it certainly appeared to him that I had palsy or nerve damage. At this point I asked him how that had anything to do with my eye feeling as if it had grains of sand it it and blurred vision. At this point he said I had better be careful how I talked to him because he was the doctor and he certainly knew what he was talking about. At this point he thrust a mirror toward me and asked me to grimace, blink my eyes, raise my eyebrows blink rapidly and this went on for some time with him saying "see, see how your eye twitches when you do these things?" I told him that I did not see my eye twitch and how would that affect my eye sight. He went on about how if the eye didn't close properly that it would not lubricate properly. I asked him why then when I woke up after a full nights sleep that I had these problems . Now he suggested that I probably slept with my eyes partially opened. For some reason the picture in my head of me sleeping with my eyes open seemed funny and I smiled. This mad the good doctor very angry and at this point he said that if I was going to act as if he didn't know what he was talking about perhaps I had better find another doctor. At this point I said I thought he was right and I would do that. As I got up to leave he said, "You'll be receiving a letter from me." To this I replied that he could also expect a letter from me. He had more to say to me as I walked down the hall but by this time I had stopped listening to him. I will find another doctor and I will be reporting his uncalled for behavior to my insurance company and I will be contacting my attorney to find what other legal recourse I may have against the good doctor. I would not recommend Tony Starck to anyone I know or anyone I do not know. read more
