I originally found an online post about this wood carving back in, say, 2012, researching funky, unique landmarks in the 505, and the next day I went on a hunt to find it. Sure enough, tucked away in a corner of the asphalt, this gorgeous little work of art sat, unloved. Several years ago the church moved it to a prominent spot on the property. Go to the northwest corner of North Plaza st and San Felipe and you'll see a colorful, hand carved stump featuring Our Lady of Guadalupe, grab a selfie, it's a great backdrop. Word has it that in 1970, a parishioner carved this icon into the heart of the tree. I'm happy it's back, and glad disco remains buried.

You're sure to find all kinds of old Route 66 memorabilia, or stuff made by local artisans. It's all small local businesses, there are no chains around here as far as I know. You're sure to find some cool foreign grub, a nice tattoo parlor, or a kitschy gift shop that focuses on Abq pride. Parking can be challenging- keep an eye out for private lots or the back streets off of Central Ave.

Naturally when I purchased my personal computer I selected a laptop that used the same operating system. It was after I moved back to New York I needed a new laptop and I switched to all Apple Products. I'm not as comfortable with the enormous amount of options these days on my devices. I do have fond memories of enjoying Microsoft Word and the other features. Would I go back to Microsoft? No....I've put too much effort into learning the Apple Life at this point. This is located in a residential neighborhood. I have no idea what the rhyme or reason for this is or was. It just appears to be a utility pole with a bunch of shoes attached all over the surface. The creator of this odd art is Michael Veseart. The shoes are pretty weather worn now. If you have an appreciation for shoes on display, this might be right down your alley. There are pretty much only women's heels... in many colors. This could just be called a High Heel Tree. I guess you could spend as much time as you'd like since there is a bench there. It is facing the houses, not the Shoe Tree. We took a very quick look and left.

(Aaahhh Yelp my most fave!) Who had a thought one day to say: Hey let me staple or nail shoes to this ugly telephone pole! Whoever it was is genius! Art is Art and everyone has their own opinions on it! There is a smaller Shoe Tree in the North Valley. So small in fact, that it doesnt have a Yelp page. Lol! Nonetheless... this show tree is Yelp Worthy! It sits in an artsy yard in a residential area not far from El Vado Motel/El Vado Taproom. So if you are in the area its worth it to not only take a look but to also snap a few shots and Yelp about it! YELP can be a fun adventurous tool to find local things in ABQ. It seems that most of them enjoy their job and are happy to have you there. The rooms in the hotel are very clean and well appointed with perhaps some of the most comfortable beds in Albuquerque! The RV park is very nice with nice large spaces and is extremely well maintained. We've stayed a few times and there is always someone out cleaning, raking and tending to the sites. Highly recommend both of them! The casino itself is a bit odd, no drinking on the floor of the casino and very little staff to help out when needed. It was also very tight for us!

ABQ: A City with Altitude, Attitude, and Adobe Soul…read more Born and raised in Albuquerque, I've watched this city grow from "The Land of Entrapment" (a nickname only locals can use lovingly) into a vibrant, creative hub I'm proud to call home. After living in Europe for 15 years, I returned in 2019 to a city that had evolved with more art, more flavor, and a stronger sense of community, yet still retained its grounded, uniquely New Mexican charm. Albuquerque is a place of paradoxes: laid-back yet electric, scrappy but soulful. You can drive from one side of Burque, starting at the Sandia Mountains, to the other side where our Petroglyphs are in under 30 minutes. Our food scene is powered by green chile, yes, and also by deep community roots and fearless creativity. The seasons shine here and the perfect weather most days all remind me that ABQ's magic is both nostalgic and alive. This city is authentic, weird, and completely unforgettable, and we Burqueños wouldn't have it any other way.

The Spaceship Ufo House, is a distinctive landmark known for its futuristic design resembling a flying saucer. This privately owned residence stands out with its circular shape and unique decor that reflects a sci-fi theme. Constructed in the 1970s, it has become a popular point of interest for visitors intrigued by its unusual architecture. We need more of this and fortunately New Mexico can deliver.

It is a 2 bedroom, 3 bath, 3,686 square foot home that was built in 1984 It is an actual house that is currently being lived in, so you cannot go inside and should be respectable of the occupants. You can still get a decent view of the property from the sidewalk and you will find parking right in front of the house on the street. It was the home of artist Bart Prince, who designed it and the accompanying art and not only served as his residence, but his studio too. You will also find some eclectic sculptures scattered around the grounds. This neat little house was sold in 2022 and I have seen it posted as an Air B & B recently. That would be a cool place to stay in, but I am not sure ablout living here, with all of the attention and tourist coming through. This place is a Albuquerque landmark. The abstract metal sculptures that are out front and just behind the fence are as interesting as the house. You will even see a dinosaur. If you are a road tripper, this should definitely be on you to see list if you are in Albuquerque. Anyway, as with most attractions that I have visited and reviewed, this is not a long stop. I was there less than 5 minutes. So, you may want to consider planning out additional stops at many of the other attractions in the area, such as the Big Red Arrow, or making this stop part of a larger itinerary to maximize your time and trip.
