Visited Tonala with a group of four, and the wait was usually long. Our order was taken by the hostess since he couldn't find our waitress. We waited about 40 minutes to receive our food, at about 30 minutes we asked the waitress if our order had been put in just to check... because the surrounding tables had been receiving their food. I got the steak fajitas, the seasoning on the beef was very good. There seemed to be more vegetables than meat though. Wow! Amazing food and service! Got here at 5:40 and thought it looked crowded but was seated in just a couple minutes. By 5:45 we had drinks and our order in...by 5:53 we already had our food!!! The salsa was really good I liked it. They even made me a spicier red salsa when I asked for it. My fish tacos, I ordered were absolutely not fishy but it had no taste at all. The tacos were two different sizes and had almost no meat in them like the picture shows.The beans and rice were average Mexican restaurant beans and rice. It wasn't worth the price we paid.My boyfriend got the molcajete, it had more flavor than mine and there was a better portion than what I got. Good food, taste good, they do take out orders! Not the most authentic place I've been too, but close to it

This place is far superior to any other Mexican restaurant around the Graham/Spanaway area. Whatever you order there make sure it has cactus salad and get the pinto beans instead of refried beans. Everything is outstanding but the street tacos are super great, chips and both the red and green salsas are excellent. Don't be fooled by the strip mall setting. We had four of the Carne Asada Street Tacos as an appetizer, then my wife had the Carne Asada Skirt Steak, I had the Enchladias-Mole, and followed with Flan for two for dessert. Wow. This place is amazing! We were on our way to the mountain and stopped on a whim. Service was excellent, music was relaxing, and the food is unbelievable. We had the pastor and lobster street tacos and were completely impressed. So tasty! We actually ordered some to go after we ate our emails because we loved them so much. I think it's worth mentioning we were also here at 330pm on a Monday - not exactly a popular time for dining, and at other places I've noticed decline in quality/service during more "off" times. Hands down the best Mexican food around. Prices are great and the service is always awesome.

We started coming here about 6 months ago after it was recommended to us. They have an excellent menu and the food isn't greasy like some Mexican restaurants. My favorite is the grilled fish tacos but everything we have tried has been tasty. During the summer we like to grab dinner and watch a Mariners game so I wish the bar was bigger but that's really my only complaint. read more

I've been here twice, and both times the food was lukewarm, at best, and it didn't taste very authentic. Much more of a fast-food kind of taste. This place is out in the middle of nowhere. You wouldn't expect to find people out here, let alone restaurants or retail. I have a friend that is about 20 minutes away, so I thought this would be a great alternative to our usual stops. The service was a little confused, but extremely friendly. They appeared to have a loyal fan base as many people were greeted by name as well as most of the staff appearing to be genuinely happy for the return business. They scored points off the bat by delivering two salsas, one red, one green. The green was the better of the two, but it needed salt and a little heat would have been good, but I have certainly had worse. The red was spicy, but something about the flavor was out of balance. It wasn't bad, just didn't impress me. I had Tortilla Soup and a Chalupa. I was hoping they would bring the soup 1st, followed by the Chalupa, but they brought them together. The soup was amazing. The broth was rich, chicken, flavorful and tortilla strips crispy. My only suggestion would be for the tortilla strips on the side. It would have been nice to add them at my own pace keeping the later strips from getting soggy. The Chalupa was good, but they made a mistake there also. The shell was chewy. The best of the best make the shell to order. I don't know if my shell was even made the same day. Despite claims of hot plate, my plate wasn't hot and the rice and beans also could have used an extra kick of seasoning. It wasn't bland, but you could tell this place was A+ potential, operating on a B level. A total win would have been better salsa's, hotter food and more flavor. That said, I would love to come back and try out some other items. The friendly service made this place worth the trip and the price. read more

Pretty dang good. My wife and I stopped here on the way back home for a quick bite to eat. When I say quick I mean it, 'cause our plates came out in a matter of just a few minutes! First time trying the food tonight and it was all so delicious. Great customer service. Very polite and helpful. We didn't get rice on one of the meals by mistake and my husband forgot my drink. So he called and the lady and she was very apologetic and nice about it. So my husband went to pick up the rice and drink and she gave us a whole new meal, the drink, and extra chips. Best around! Street Tacos are great, I also like their Arroz con Pollo. Their best dish is probably the Carne Asada! Ask for Omar, he's great! And a pretty good golfer too!
