The cost for the shelter for the day ($80.00), the deposit ($300.00) which I'll get back the day after if no one destroys it. Rules, permit, etc.... I didn't realize there was so much to go through just to have a cookout at a park with a roof over our heads. Anyways, it was quick & easy.

A nice little nature reserve hidden in a busy area. Although it's not as large as other nearby…read morenature reserves, it has two playgrounds, each labeled for children of different age groups. There's also picnic tables, plenty of parking, shade, and a trail. There's also a welcome center but we didn't go inside during our visit. Overall we enjoyed our walk and I'd definitely come here again.

Over time, the Square has grown larger and smaller, and has been framed by offices and public buildings, while serving the City as a meeting place, a concert venue and a park for citizens in search of a lunchtime resting place. If you're downtown and want to feel a bit of old Buffalo, wander into the square and squint your eyes. You'll hear speeches made by presidents-past (Martin Van Buren and Grover Cleveland) and presidents-to-be (President-elect Abraham Lincoln), and concerts of Sousa marches (and the Mamas and the Papas, and The Fabulous Thunderbirds). The Square, while not an imposing park, is comfortable, and an important and solidly-ensconced artifact of Buffalo's public history.

I'm a sucker for exploring anything that has historical significance, so of course, I had to go check it out. While the square is small, it does have a few features worth noting. Most obvious is the giant civil war monument right in the middle named Soldiers and Sailors. If you're looking at it from the front you'll find a placard with information about it. If you turn directly around you'll have a lovely view of Buffalo's City Hall, which is an art deco style building a few blocks away. You can't miss it! Overall, the architecture is nice to admire as there's several additional buildings that surround the square. Fun fact... Abraham Lincoln spoke here once, which adds another historical element. If you're like me and into checking out meaningful landmarks, give it a visit. If you're not, you likely won't be impressed.

The Classic Rink offers Learn To Skate packages in bundles of six lessons throughout the cold…read morewinter months. Our little kids love this program and look forward to their Monday night classes. The Classic hosts high school & youth hockey teams, free-skate sessions, private parties. Once the weather warms up, the Rink will be converted to an outdoor marketplace. Facilities are immaculately clean, which is a tall order, considering the large members of people coming through the building every day. We took advantage of the Skate rentals, until we knew our boys were committed to learning to skate. At that point, we bought secondhand skates for them. There's a limited snack bar in the skating lodge. If you're craving something more substantial, you're within walking distance from some really great restaurants! I particularly love the second floor which overlooks the ice. It's wonderfully comfortable and cozy, outfitted with huge rocking chairs. Come on down during open hours to support the kids!

The Scajaquada Creek bike path runs from the southwest corner of Delaware Park to Forest and…read moreNiagara Street, where there's a connector across the street to Riverwalk and the Niagara Greenway/Shoreline Trail. It is an interesting trail that I think highlights some of the city priorities. From Delaware Park through and along the Buffalo History Museum, it is well paved and maintained. Be careful riding your bike through the Japanese Gardens, as there is almost always a group or two (wedding parties, proms,) taking photos and blocking the path. Once it crosses Elmwood and takes a detour for the onramp, the maintenance starts to deteriorate. There are bumps and broken pavement. It passes behind Wegmans, a school, and a nice little playground that is always full of kids. Then, it crosses Grant Street. When it crosses here, and passes by Tops, there are a couple of old shelters for the path, marked up with graffiti. There are interpretative signs that were placed at some point, but vandalized and missing. You pass through a corridor with some cleanup, but not much. You pass under an underpass with a homeless encampment. And you hit Niagara Street, where the crossing buttons are broken, and the one on the opposite side was hit by a car and not replaced. I've reported it to 311, but haven't seen action yet. The bridge crossing to Riverwalk is very cool and very much needed. I just really wish that some more attention were paid to this path. Buffalo has been doing a good job adding new bike paths, but they need to revisit and maintain the ones they already have, so that the whole city can continue to be safely connected.

Throughout the years, all four of my children have been enrolled in various programs/classes. My three boys all started with the Hockey Skills offering in the Learn to Skate Program. Afterwards they went on and continued with the Learn to Skate program which is geared towards figure skating. This gave them a great base for playing travel and high school hockey. My daughter started in Learn to Skate and went on to private instruction and to eventually teach in the Learn to Skate program. She participated in many competitions and this gave her good experience with handling pressure, gaining confidence, and staying fit. Initially, we had no idea the impact that the Amherst Skating Club would have on our family. Enrolling our kids in Learn to Skate was a great move and helped all my kids stay in shape and become very good skaters. My daughter went on for years and was very active with the club. It was a great experience and feel fortunate to have been enrolled in many of their program offerings.

Terrapin Point gets you as close to the falls as you can without taking a boat. On the United…read moreStates side this is by far the best viewpoint of Horseshoe Falls. If you are not up for a walk you can drive here and park at the nearby lot and it is a short walk. It's a beautiful view and no matter where you are on the walkway you will get a great shot of the falls. If you want to just sit and take it in, you can. On a nice warm day, the mist every so often off the falls feels good hitting your face while the sun is baking you. This can be as quick a visit as you want it to be. Or you can just sit hear all day and watch the hoards of tourist coming and going.

Great view of Niagara Falls!…read more Terrapin Point is the closest viewing of the falls from the USA without getting on the Maid of the Mist boat ride. If you haven't done the Maid of the Mist, I still think it is worth it BTW. The mist from the falls is so strong that you will get hit from it standing close to the edge. During busy times it can be hard to get a nice camera shot of the falls as everyone else is looking for the same shot. The sun is also pretty strong at times so getting a perfect shot is always difficult. Niagara Falls is indeed awe inspiring and I do try to stop by every time I'm nearby. With erosion and decay on the horizon, I'm hopeful that I'll still be able to enjoy this site for many years to come. As some others have noted, parking is anywhere from free with your National Park Pass, $10 or $15. I didn't take particular note of the difference between $10 and $15 but I think it depends on if you have a much larger vehicle like a RV.
