I wish I knew how nice this park was before our senior dog's mobility became too limited. It's magical, between crossing the big wooden bridge over the creek to the happy dogs frolicking through the green shady island. There's even swings and a playground for the two legged puppers. I came to add some books to the free little library. I was amazed at how clean and well kept the grounds were. Visitors really stay on top of their dogs. I didn't see a single pile. Or maybe all the dogs just become like those kids who get too caught up in playing to take a bio break. read more

I love this dog park! I got my puppy last summer when he was still too young to go to dog parks, but he is now all grown and loves the dog park. He used to be pretty shy and afraid of other dogs, but I'm so glad this park exists because he's certainly come out of his shell. This park is easy to find and is off of Niagara Falls Boulevard. You walk across the short bridge to get there. There is plenty of shade so it never feels too hot even if it's 90+ degrees. The park is one big loop so there are no separate areas for big dogs and little dogs. However, there is plenty of space where you can keep your dog if he/she prefers to explore alone. The dogs we've encountered are pretty well behaved. This park is fenced so you don't have to worry about your dog escaping. There are also multiple water areas where they can swim! read more

What a beautiful space! However it is ruined by people. Here, like every other dog park, you have to be aware that there are dog owners who bring aggressive dogs to the park that will eventually attack other dogs. These dogs show signs of being really stressed or territorial and they show it in their body language. Stiff bodies, lowered head, flat ears. These owners do not know how to read this body language. For example, a wagging tail does not always mean "happy." There was a dog that was coming towards my puppy like he was a delicious morsel, in total "stalking" mode. I said, "Can you please get your dog?" The man did get his dog and said, mystified, "He is usually so happy." A totally wrong reading of dog behavior. It is not as simple as happy/sad. There are people who come here every day as a part of their routine. These people have aggressive dogs and also feel that because they come every day, they and their dogs deserve to be there. I heard a whole lot of barking and snarling and a woman yelling at her dog. Then a minute later, this same woman told me after her dog chased my puppy, lunging and snapping at him, "We come here every day!" I asked her, "But I just heard your dog doing the same thing to another dog." She replied, "Oh, that's just ____. She does that every day to that dog." This is not polite behavior in the world of dogs, to lunge and snap at a puppy. Dogs that do not recognize that a puppy is a puppy should not be allowed to be off leash around puppies. The last time we went, there was a dog snapping at and chasing every. single. dog she encountered. When I saw the owner, he had a smug look on his face, like, "Every dog here is scared of my dog." What a sad little man, to get your Ego stroked by a dog that is acting like that because she is frightened of every dog and is truly stressed out by the responsibility of having to be the one in charge. read more

Love coming to this park with our golden retriever Colby. It's huge so the dogs can run without being crowded by all he dogs. It helps our dog not fixate on another dog so the point where they may annoy each other. There's even bathrooms here which are honestly some of the cleaner park bathrooms I've seen. There's a few spots along the edges where the dogs can swim. The entire place is an island you have to cross a bridge to get to. I would be sure your dog has some sense of recall here as it is a very large area. read more

I don't re-write or update many reviews. Those that I do, it's usually to raise the rating rather than lower. In this case I feel pretty strongly that it's warranted. The last two times we brought our dog here she went home covered in burrs. Twice now I've had to watch my dog run up to us and lay down on the ground because she's covered in burrs and needs help. This is completely unacceptable. Obviously there is someone doing maintenance here, someone is cutting grass, trimming trees, etc. Why is there no one removing these bushes? It's not just one spot, there are several throughout the park. Looks like it's back to the paw park for us. We won't be back. read more

LA Cot Creek is a creek in Los Angeles where you throw away your old baby beds, and then others go there and find used, thrown out baby beds for their little ones. It's awesome. This park, on the other hand, is one of Buffalo's prettiest and most underrated parks. It's listed on Yelp as a Dog Park but it's also a Park Proper and it's wonderful. Some of the reviews here are just for the Dog Park, but I've never brought Starlight here (I will soon!) so I'm reviewing the actual Park part of it. I was last here about a year ago for a soccer game. Before that I cycled here from the trails by UB and the Amherst Bike Path about 5 times during the summer of 2014. And before that I played many soccer games here and went for many walks here, as I lived 3 minutes drive north of here for many years. I love this park. Ellicott Creek is full of ducks and geese and they are so damn adorable. This area is beautiful and unspoiled, and despite the sound of the Boulevard close by, it's still one of my fave places to go in the Amherst area. It's absolutely lovely, especially in the summer. If you haven't spent any time in this adorable little park, come on down and give it a try. You may find a new favourite spot. Just don't leave any broken glass here. After all, Californian tourists sometimes come here, and you wouldn't want one of them to get an LA Cut. read more

If you're looking for a place to let your dog roam along with you along some small pathways, swim in the water, and simply let them be themselves without being stuck behind the restraints of a 6 foot leash, then this place is it. There is a pretty big parking lot right by the bridge that leads to the park's entrance, so I'd say there's more than enough room for people to park close enough and bring their pups to the island. Once you've headed over the bridge itself, there is a double gate you have to go through - precautionary, of course, in case any dogs want to try to sneak out of it. I think those two points help make coming to this park very stress-free. The park itself is pretty large - it's an island! A little spot that's completely surrounded by water is absolutely perfect for keeping pups contained. I've seen all different types of dogs here, from terriers to retrievers, and everything in between. It has dozens of picnic tables to sit at, some of which sit beneath some nice pavilions, and a restroom building for us humans if we need it. There's a neat canine water fountain near the bathrooms if your pup gets thirsty while you're spending time there, an alternative to having to bring your own bowl and water to the park. There's a rather large sign right at the entrance which has a good list of guidelines to follow. People generally do a good job of keeping an eye on their dogs, especially when it comes to them doing their business, but I have noticed a couple of people allowing their dogs to go on unattended, and unpicked-up piles that my dog (unfortunately) likes to go after. That's really the only downside to this place that I can think of. The other dog owners I've met here have always been super friendly, and super mindful of their dogs if they get too rowdy. I like being able to take my dog for a few laps around the entire park, and letting her swim around in the water and play in the mud. This is the place to truly let your dog be a dog. read more

We love the dog park!!! Especially my dog Zeus. We have had Zeus since May and he has loved the dog park ever since he has been able to start visiting in August. A miniature Jack Russell, he is usually the smallest dog at the park, but he has a blast and it is awesome for us to be able to take him somewhere that we can let him off leash to play and run. He loves interacting with the other dogs and being able to run and be near the water. If I could take him every day I would. The park is well kept, everyone is friendly and abides by the rules. Not to mention this is the largest dog park I have ever been to. I would travel to come here even if I didn't live right down the street! Can't say enough about this place. read more

Visited this dog park for the first time today. My dog loved it! It's definitely the largest dog park I've ever seen. My dog's a social butterfly so she hopped from dog to dog to play with everyone she saw. She especially liked the beach area - sprinting up the hill, around the structure, and into the water with or without other dogs! There are ample shelters, areas to sit, and shade from trees. One restroom (currently closed for COVID) and one water fountain for dogs in the whole space (I brought a small bowl and bottle of water to be safe and needed it). This park was a great time with lots of dogs - we will be back soon! read more

I truly enjoy bringing my dog Nico to the Ellicott Creek dog park. It is much larger than the other dog parks in the area. If the weather is nice, the parking lot by is always full. This is a very popular dog park and typically pretty busy. My dog loves to explore how much there is so much that he rarely cares to play one on one with the other dogs. There's so much for the dogs to see and smell! I really like this because when a large number of dogs are in a smaller space and there becomes an issue, it is harder for the dogs to separate naturally and remove themselves from the tension. I have seen some issues between dogs at this location but it is only natural that things are going to happen. As long as owners are attentive to their dogs then it makes for an enjoyable place. The park is actually an island so it is surrounded by water which makes it so the dogs cannot run off even though it is not fenced in. My dog loves swimming and there are two main parts that allow for the dogs to easily access the water to swim. There are picnic tables for owners to sit as their dogs explore. I don't really view this as a normal park and it bothers me that there is a children's playground in the middle of the park. It can be worrisome when I see some families being small children. This is a place for dog friendly dogs. Not all dogs are used to small children. I know my dog can get very energized at the park and start doing zoomies which could cause a bad incident if he were to run into a small child. He is an extremely friendly dog but he is not often around small children. I know many large dogs that don't understand the need to be gentle with kids. It can be frustrating because if something were to happen, the dog would be viewed negatively. I have been there where a few ~10 year olds were playing frisbee on their own. I was incredibly surprised to not see a dog try to get on the middle and run after the frisbee. Ultimately this is a great dog park for dog friendly dogs. My dog enjoys coming here very much and we have had positive experiences each time we've visited. read more

This park is beautiful, and if you have a dog you need to come here ASAP. There's an off leash dog park here that's really awesome. I brought my dogs and they had an amazing time. There's plenty of space for them to run around, the whole thing is gated and there's even fresh water always available for the dogs. Even if you don't have a dog, it's the perfect park to walk around (and the whole thing isn't part of the dog park). One way in/out means you can let your dog run free. Active volunteer committee keeps the place organized and removes trash, restocks bag dispensers, plants grass and trees and holds various fun events throughout the year. I made that mistake in June until the first week of July and have spent a ton of money at the Vet on a bacterial infection my dog now has. This park has( almost) everything. I was fortunate to grow up playing here. It is a beautiful, sprawling park equipped with many play areas for the little ones, numerous pavilions and charcoal grills, a "casino" that can be rented for parties that has a kitchen and I believe a wood fireplace but I have not been in it in years so don't quote me :) Also there is a tennis court, softball/baseball field, soccer field. The park is very clean and a great place to spend time, take a walk or bike, walk your dog etc. It is beautiful in the fall as there are many old trees and it is not too crowded. Even at it's most crowded, the layout of the park allows you much personal space. The play areas for kids are numerous and make me wish I was a kid again.! Public restrooms at the park are kept pretty clean. There are several little spots to lock up your bike as well. I definitely recommend checking this park out for gatherings, letting kids expend their energy or just to relax alone. The only addition I would love to see is a wading pool or splash pad. This is hands down the best dog park I've ever been too. Why you ask? Because it's massive, allows your dog to roam free and explore a large island, and even has a trail for you to walk around and get some exersize. When you cross over the large bridge entering the Ellicott Creek Island Park you are met with a fence at the other side, once you enter all you see is tons of space for your pup to roam free and even includes plenty of benches, gazebos, swings, a book exchange, and even a little abandon buildings for them to explore. And if f your dogs like swimming there is also plenty of different spots around the island for the little ones to jump in and have a dip! This is going to continue being my go to dog park whenever we want the pugs to have some fun while we get a nice little walk in as well. read more

This is the best dog park in all of Western New York. It's completely open and off leash. It's an island so your dog would have to swim across the creek to get away, which is very unlikely. I found this was the best place to practice training my pups so there are plenty of distractions and we could work on her keeping focus on me. There is a place for children to play on a playground, there is a nice old castle wall which is fun to play in. There are two designated swimming holes for the dogs to play in the water, pavilions for picnics, and plenty of resting spots/picnic tables. As a lover of dogs, nature and wildlife this park is deemed an official dog park and a nice place to let your dog roam free in the woods on an island. With plenty of ample parking in a huge lot, this park is accessible via a wooden walking bridge over Ellicott Creek. Once you get to the other side of the bridge there are entrance gates and exit gates. Make sure you get in and out quickly and efficiently so no dogs escape through these gates. There is no leash law while in this park however I opt to keep my dog leashed because she is a small dog. There's no "sections" for smaller and larger dogs, so you have dogs running free together as large as an Irish Wolfhound to as small as a Chihuahua. Although most people are mindful and watching their dog here, I have witnessed several dogs roaming about where their owner is clear on the other side of the island not able to even have a visual on their pet. This causes problems with feces being left not being picked up by the owner, and unacceptable behaviors peeped just to name a few. A larger dog jumped on my back on one occasion catching me off guard leaving muddy paw prints on my white jacket, owner nowhere to be found. There has been several occasions where the park has been closed for a few days due to "feces clean up." The park has also been closed due to funky bacteria in the creek being treated. I know several owners allow their dogs to swim in the creek, just be well aware of the possible consequences. We love coming here when it's less crowded otherwise we walk along the creek on the trail outside of the park. My dog loves to hunt and sniff out varmint and we love enjoying the beauty of nature while here. read more

We just got back from here and are impressed with the park! Even on a chilly winters day it is beautiful and surrounded by water (it is an island after all). It's great that all the dog owners that choose to bring their dogs in off leash have been mostly well behaved. It's pretty big for a dedicated off leash dog park, better than some dog runs out there. There are also kid play structures and picnic tables, so dog friendly people can have their dogs off while they enjoy the day, so nice. Poochie Pooch and I are so lucky to have this exist so close to our home. We live about a mile or so away from the park and we've gone here several times this summer to have a bit of fun at the dog park. The dog park is located on an island. It's right next to Tim Horton's and a bank. There's a nice little parking lot to the side of both of those buildings with a stoplight and easy access to get there. There are many parking spots so unless there's a special doggie event, you'll always find a spot, although not always close to the bridge. No matter, it's your dog's time anyway. As soon as my Golden hops out of the car, he's pulling me in every direction to sniff every single thing. To access the island, you cross a small bridge and end up at a gated area. There's a Lost and Found mailbox there so if you lose something there, check it out. They also have waste bags for you to clean up after your dog. The gated area is a transitional area where you unleash your dog. Just make sure both gates are closed as you do so! We don't want any loose doggies running toward the Boulevard. As soon as the gate is open, my dog is off, like a horse out of the gate. He likes to sprint from one side of the park to the other with me galloping after him. We both get our fair share of exercise here. The island is perfect though because it's a pretty huge expanse of land with nowhere for your dog to go, so he can run run run all day if his heart desires. A previous reviewer mentioned the bad quality of the water causing illness. All I'd recommend is that you have your dog enter at his own risk. The water is kind of gross, however there are several other dogs that are diving inside the water as well. I feel like if this park was extremely harmful to dogs that puts your dog at-risk for disease, it wouldn't be open. Then again, I've seen towns not really care either so I guess it's really up to you. The owners and dogs that come to this park are absolutely lovely. I have yet to encounter a nasty owner or an aggressive dog. Everyone seems to be on the same page with treating other people respectfully and keeping their dogs out of trouble. Be careful if you have a small dog though. This park doesn't have a separate area for small dogs so I've seen many dogs trampled by a stampede of large dogs playing with each other. Just be mindful of what your dog can and cannot handle. Dogs aren't usually aggressive, but they will jump and snoop around any dog when it wants to play; that's a dog's nature. Definitely come here if you have a dog. Your puppy will thank you and then you can thank me after that :) read more

This is the best Dog Park in the area. The park was converted to an official Dog Park a couple of years ago. It has beautiful old oak trees for shade from the sun. Fresh water,bathrooms and benches. The area is big! My guess at least 4 acres, for dogs to run around. Also, there are a few areas prefect for Dogs to practice their doggie paddle. PS. My dog absolutely loves this park. As we don't have a fenced in yard, we are always on the hunt for places to take him to run around. I love it here because it's surrounded by water, which Teddy hates and would not go in, hence he will never be able to run away! The park is pretty big, it kind of goes in a big loop which is convenient for the humans involved. There are garbage cans for when nature calls for the dogs, and some pavilions spread out for people to sit. They do state that dogs are not to be on leashes while in the park. There are parts of the island that have tall grass for frolicking which my dog loves. There are also areas for dogs to easily run down to the water for swimming. I also love seeing so many picnic pavillions and people all over the place. In the summer, my book club meets here. It's such a calming environment. Not sure what else to write... But I definitely look forward to coming here a lot this summer! Dog Park: I live vicariously as a dog owner through my friend Teddy who has a puppy and an older dog. I'm usually quite shaky around dogs I don't know. I get quite nervous. I was nervous for about 2 minutes at the dog park until I realized all the dogs (and owners) are so friendly! I think it's great that dogs can just walk around and play with one another. I was also impressed that there are no poops in sight! **Pro-tip: bring a bag of Teds to the dog park. The Ellicott Creek Park is awesome! There is a LOT of space and most owners are genuine and bring their dog if it likes other dogs/ enjoys other dogs company. (In my experience) There is quite a nice walk for scenery for both dog and owner and its essentially an island so your dog can swim! DOG ISLAND! A tip for yelpers... BE PREPARED TO BATHE YOUR DOG AFTER IF IT LIKES WATER. They will get muddy and perhaps a bit stinky! :) read more

This park needs more supervision!!!! At Least 2 fenced areas for small dogs and large dogs. I have a french bulldog and had her at the park on leash and another dog, a lab tied to attack her but luckily was on a leash also and the owners pulled the dog away before any harm came.
