I hope that maybe early in the day many of the vendors just weren't in their work rhythm and got it together later for the crowds and that is a possibility of what happened. I don't feel it's necessary to rat out on some places that didn't perform well in this environment but not all but much of the food I tried I found inedible. A few places that I enjoyed last year put out terrible and ice cold food this year. One place that put out my husband's favorite bite latter in the day watered down the food so much it was terrible and didn't make my good food list just for that. A few places put out good food. Whiskey Rose Soleil at the Renaissance Amuse Bouche Shelly's Specialty Desserts Adams Natural Meats Everyone else (that I tried) I can tell a story about but won't. I left hungry and boozed up on generous amounts of really cheap wine to get my money's worth. (the type of wine you guzzle to avoid tasting) Got my tickets half priced and I still feel this way! Flavors of the West delivers some of the best local restaurants in the area each year, in an effort to educate our neighbors about all the great options we have out West- so maybe more will hang out here to eat, drink, and play instead of driving into Phoenix, Scottsdale, Tempe, or Chandler to have their fun. There's plenty of amazing places to enjoy out here.. But, Flavors is unique. The detail around the festival is appreciated. The music is always good. The local chefs are usually the ones behind the booth, so you can get up and close to how they prepare their food, what they use, etc.. The lines can get long, so get there early so you have a chance to try as many places as you can. The restaurants all participate free of charge, but they have some steep costs to bring out their staff, equipment, and food to provide samples to Flavors patrons. For some, this might be their very first time participating in an event like this, so it's hard to judge year to year how consistent the options will be. But, it's nice to try new places and see what's new in the West Valley. The event gives back to charity. Matter of fact, 100% of the event proceeds benefit local charities in need. The organizers are all volunteers, and choose to host this event each year to bring the community together for a celebration of food, music, and friendship. The host, The Honey Foundation, is a home-grown charity that promotes Kindness across the World. They provide Kindness Education for K-12 students here in Arizona and across the United States and have already made a significant impact in decreasing disciplinary action in schools. The community has its own Full Fledge Supermarket, Bank, Pharmacy, Schools, Church, Quick Care, Gas Station, Fast Food, and even a Restaurant. This has been designed in the aspect of you dont have to leave. It is all right here at your finger-tips. The community has its own golf course, lakes, water park, hiking and bike trails, plus the community center hosts several social gatherings. Now due to Covid of course they are taking their time re: the next calendar but it is truly fun when you get the chance to attend one. The grounds are very well kept at all times. I dont know if it is the scenery, the people, the atmosphere of everything. I just know it is truly one of my happy places to be. The stars are truly a sight to see if you get the chance to experience it, as it seems almost like you can just pick one out the sky. The roaming security keep an eye on the community, and are readily available to answer any questions you may have. Because the area still remains authentic in certain areas, be aware of snakes, coyotes, and scorpions, as this is their habitat literally. Of course it was much easier to pay $30 a month versus over $100 a month which is the current HOA fees. Well I just got hit with a lawsuit against me from the H O Way including a $915 "legal fee." Just forked over $3822.00 to the HOS so that I could be let back into the gymnasium facility. Nothing like paying lots of money for services that were never received. In my profession, that is called fraud it is a criminal offense. In addition to making life miserable and generally impeding the constitutionally guaranteed life liberty and the pursuit of freedom, with the ridiculous overreaching powers of the HOA One has to wonder is it really worth it. Whoever is considering this committee I would ask them to strongly consider the effect that living under such drastic Totalitarian rules imposed upon the residents here, is it really worth it?

During Black History month, I'm filling my calendar with events and locales in the Phoenix…read moremetropolitan area where I can experience the handiworks of Black artists. I began my journey here. Located in the Surprise Civic Center complex, this gallery is featuring Black artistry from sculpture to quilting, photography to paintings and jewelry to ceramics. It was an impressive array. The gallery space can also be rented as an event space. The gardens outside are lovely with plants that shade in the beastly summer. Seating is plentiful under an arbor that covers an ample amount of space, perfect for meditation, conversation, or even a sack lunch. I'm looking forward to returning again as the exhibits rotate throughout the month to feature other Black artists handiwork.

Justin spoke to us from behind the counter at length about community events, clubs, and giveaways. He was very friendly and helpful. He made this shop and the local RC community feel very inclusive, with events for kids as well.
