Dr. Tony Choi is my favorite dentist. He is very skillful doing everything himself, like also orthodontic treatments, tooth implants, and gum repairs. With his orthodontic skills he gave me the ability of a perfect smile, and I still use his transparent appliance at night to keep my teeth in shape. With his dental surgery skills he gave me a perfect tooth implant where I had very little bone left, which he was able to reach, and he added more bone. Now with his periodontic skills he also made a perfect gum repair where my gum was receding, and he provided great instructions for allowing it to heal. Last but not least he is a good character treating you with love and respect. I appreciate him. read more

Took appointment for my wife at his office informing that she may reschedule if i can't come in on that day & they said sure thats not a problem. Later they said its a no show when I rescheduled, stating that it was not 48hrs or more time, to inform . When I missed appointment they said we cannot reschedule your appointment & lets part ways Very unprofessional & declined her impending cleaning & charged 100 bucks for no show. It was only after my visit to another dentist to repair Tony Choi's work did I realize how terrible of a dentist Tony Choi is. I had a simple chipped front tooth, so I went to Tony out of convenience. Boy was that a mistake. My chipped front tooth apparently required local anesthesia so here comes the big needle. Two days later, Tony's handywork patch-fix chipped off, so I decided to find a different dentist. Here's where the disturbing part begins: I go into my new dentist, he takes a look and starts fixing my chipped tooth. No local anesthesia?? Yes, apparently any competent doctor who knew anything would have taken one look at my chipped tooth and determined there was absolutely no need for anesthesia. My new dentist's work has been solid and I've had no issue for the last 9 months. This place is a scam! Very unfortunate to be unable to trust a dentist/healthcare provider in a beautiful town like Los Gatos. This place only cares about money, they don't check your insurance, they try to pressure and convince people that their teeth are in bad shape, and they will, without your accept, do procedures you didn't ask for and charge you for it. Be careful out there. Long story short, I went in for a regular annual check up at Tony Choi's office. I had called them prior and given them my insurance information. During the entire appointment I felt overwhelmed and confused. Without telling me in advance, they cleaned my teeth and used the fancy X-ray machine - also, I'm 28 and my former dentists state that I have healthy teeth, but Tony Choi tried to convince me that I needed a crown and a night guard urgently and that it would be best if we start the process same day. I like to be able to trust doctors and I felt extremely pressured by the staff, so finally I did agree to pay $180 for a night guard, but explained I wanted to wait with the crown. Due to wisdom teeth extractions six months earlier, I had already met the limit for my insurance so now I had to pay out of pocket and I have been dealing with their invoice for 4 weeks now and they have been extremely rude over the phone - they have hung up on me, given me attitude and lied several times. Obviously, this place does not check your insurance before procedure and they ended up charging me $650+ for a regular annual check up. WOW ! beware of this Guy....I was quoted $7000 for 2 in-plants....Ended up paying over $10,000.... I wasn't paying attention to what my insurance was paying and ended up paying too much....He also automatically tried to bill me for late charges.. Except I paid the bill as we went along. This process took over 18+ months and I was never in the rears. I explained to him since when does anyone pay in advance for services rendered (that would warrant a late fee)? Confronted him on over charging through several messages and to this day no refund.... One in-plant hurt for 2 weeks, very painful, and finally fell out. Had to wait almost 2 months before it got rein-planted Hires all new staff and constantly talks down to them as he trains them. Very condescending to staff in front of you.... I was seen for a general check up and never in my life had a worse cleaning ever. Trying to up sale everything, I was told I need night guard, root canal plus crown, etc. Second day I've checked my tooth and the stain was still there. I called the office and rescheduled me two weeks later to get a repeat cleaning. I went in the dentist Toni started to give me lecture about the coffee, tea, and food ketchup stain will come back in days or weeks. I just walked out. I had tooth cleaning twice a year for past 30 years, never had stain come Bach in weeks. What a complete BS. I asked to get my records and told me it is $40. For the x-ray. Horrible experience. Very bad customer experience: 1/ First time in my life it hurts going to the dentist. And first time I am actually fearing going to the dentist. 2/ Very doubtful billing practice. You are overbilled, charged for care that you were not asked for. And the price I agreed with Dr Choi was not followed. In fact they will get you by making bills confusing, and they will not explain the bill to you. The front desk will not help you solve the bill discrepancies. Only Dr Choi would want to see you to resolve these... Avoid this dentist at all cost. We made the mistake of visiting Dr. Choi when we moved to the Bay area 4 years ago. Within the first 6 months we'd spent thousands with him for me, my wife, and our children. Looking back now it's obvious he saw us coming and knew he could sell us... Both my daughter and I have since gotten additional work done with other dental offices due to his failed procedures. His quality of work is average at best. As an additional data point around the pushy sales environment, we've not been back in over 30 months and even though I've called, text and emailed the office I continue to get regular emails, text and phone calls from them trying to sell, sell SELL. Hoping that me posting a review will finally prompt them to take us off their email/call/text lists. I have been going to Dr. Choi for 8 years. I had moved to the area and needed a dentist and was referred to Dr. Choi through my health insurance provider. I went to him because he was close and I had an emergency root canal that needed done. I was naive enough to believe everything he said. Yesterday I went to have a cracked crown looked at and he told me that he also discovered that a bridge he put in 2 years ago was also failing and that I should have that done. He recommended 6 implants at a cost of $24,000.00. When I told him I could not afford that, he said "People do it all the time". Here's the thing. In the 8 years I've been there, I have spent a grand total of $23,831.50 out of pocket for several procedures. Root canals, extractions, a partial denture (that has broken twice and needed replaced in 3 years) a bridge, etc. etc. And after all that, everything he has done to my mouth has failed and now he wants another $24,000.00. I asked if he could credit back, or cover any of the work that has clearly not worked and he said he is not responsible for any of it. I got up and walked out. I felt cheated, taken advantage of and will NEVER go back to him again. This dentist is out for one thing, and one thing only....to make money. He has horrible bed side manner, he has absolutely ZERO compassion. Every single time I have gone in to him, he has ended up doing way more than what I asked for way more money and I fell for it. His office constantly calls, emails, txts you weekly in an attempt to solicit business and profit. Avoid this place. I regret for not reading reviews more carefully. Now I have to deal with too much hassle. I found Dr. Choi via my insurance in-network portal. I called his office on 3 months in advance to schedule an appointment for a regular exam and cleaning in November. To ensure being totally covered, I sent them my insurance card along all other important information. And then they called me saying I will be 100% covered for this appointment and there will be zero copay, which is consistent with my insurance policy. On November 8, I went to his office and had regular exam and X-rays. In the end, Dr. Choi barely did cleaning and asked me to come back for a deep cleaning. Before I left his office, I also confirmed with Dr. Choi himself that everything was covered and I had zero copay. About a month later, they sent me a statement charging me $281 after all eligible charges being paid by my insurance. I was super surprised by receiving this bill and called my insurance immediately. My insurance said as an in-network provider, he should ONLY charge me eligible charges rather than submitted charges (whatever number he wrote). In fact, all charges on my bill are submitted charges. I called their office many times but couldn't get through, so I emailed them restating I had been ensured a 100% coverage and I don't plan to pay this bill as it contradicts what they have told me. No one replied to my email, but their office kept sending me bills. I called their office and they said it's the issue between my insurance and me and it's not their business. According to my dental experience for so many years, it's their responsibility to sort this out with my insurance company before the service and let me know what to expect. In this case, I expected to pay NONE based on their confirmation. If I had known there would be a copay, I would definitely go to another dentist. Regardless how good Dr. Choi is, he didn't keep his words and failed to be a reliable provider. I am extremely frustrated with this experience and feeling trapped. read more

Dr. Choi has the patient service skills of that guy who always is right, no matter what. My appointment started off with him grabbing the bitewings out of his assistant's hands not once, but twice to adjust them so they are "placed perfectly" in his words. His behavior towards his staff is disrespectful at best. I hadn't been to the dentist for a couple years and yes, I don't floss regularly. My gums weren't in great shape, but instead of pointing out what to do he proceeded to insist I look in the mirror at every single area. I get it Dr. Choi I need to floss. TLDR: Avoid this place. They lie, they overbill your insurance, over-bill the patient, and under-serve. He sounds like the friendliest old man, but his actions are completely opposite. All they care about is money. Billed my insurances for extra 10k and provided less service than agreed upon. I went to Choi because he was close by and was a "preferred" dr in my insurance (so coverage is 65%% instead of 50%). I probably ended up paying WAY more out of pocket than if I had selected a reputable dentist. My price was increased multiple times, but he hooked me in with the initial Xray cost. 1st visit: I just want to get an estimate for a single-tooth implant. After setting in and doing various checks, he said I need to get a 3D x-ray for him to tell. It's $250 payment right at the spot, no insurance coverage. He said tells me implants around roughly 2500-3500 depending on the case and if I got with him, the $250 goes toward the cost. I agreed (1st mistake of many). He tells me I need a bone graft (a few hundred) and Sinus bump ($1500 line item), so the total cost goes up again. He also recommended a mouth guard to keep my teeth in place ($250 out of pocket). 2nd visit: Removing tooth & bone graft: This is the start of the procedure and when I'm all settled in the chair, he comes out with an updated quote. He mentioned my insurance won't cover Sinus bump so I had to increase my out-of-pocket cost. The total quote is now at 6k. I felt committed at this since I took the day off work, mouthguard and Xray cost, so agreed. Next big visit (~ 6month later): Dental implant: Took a day off work again since it's a big procedure. I went in and Dr Choi claims my insurance won't cover my Sinus Bump. I said I know and reminded him of my previous price increase from the last visit. He doesn't seem to remember at all and said those are estimates. Show him the paper and he still wants to increase my OutOfPocket cost by $1000. And he wants me to take another $250 xray to get an update and that he didn't plan to work on the procedure this day because insurance didn't approve the sinus bump. I wasted a lot of time and I didn't agree with them changing the bill in the middle of the procedure. So I left and told them to discontinue my services. Dr. Choi called me and said he felt bad and that he'll cover the cost and perform the sinus without charging me. I agree since he sounded sincere and I just want it to be done. Another dumb mistake by me. Actual Dental Implant: He shows me some x-ray and said oh look, maybe you don't need the sinus bump after all. I told reminded him that he increased my out of pocket cost for that and I don't want my service to be altered just because he wants to save cost. He assures me that my health is top of his priority and he have to start the procedure to make the call. The procedure came and went, and you guessed it, no sinus bump. I asked him about it and he said I don't need it. I was in pain so I didn't bother fighting and just moved on. I just wanted it done. So after that, insurance claims start coming in. They seem to randomly charge claims to medical insurance and hope some of the stick. My insurance denied a few and approved a few. Overall around 2.5k paid via dental insurance and 12.5k paid via medical. I contacted them about the incorrect charges to my insurance and they gave me the runaround. They insisted it was correct to charge, so I asked for the billing code and what procedures were performed. They gave me a generic "Surgery" answer and never gave me the billing codes. They told me they'll email it later (2 weeks later, multiple requests, still no codes). Their medical biller (Kim) said: "You don't you want Dr. Choi to have the money?" And Dr. Choi said I don't have to worry about the co-pay from those claims. I told them I want them removed from my insurance since those were no performed (I was still mad about the Sinus bump headache he put me through). So I called again to discontinue my service and they said they can only partially refund me. Dr Choi called me to "check-in" and said if I want a refund, he can perhaps do another charge to my initial tooth removal appointment and give me my entire out of pocket cost. I told him no, he still didn't even remove the 10k overbilled he got from my recent visit and he wanted to bill my insurance another crazy amount just to cover my out of pocket cost. The other reviewer described him quite accurately: He's a Money Hungry man. Anyways, sorry for the long read. I hope this will help at least someone avoid the mistakes I made (choosing Dr Choi). It's close to a year and I'm still without a tooth. I'll continue with someone that actually cares about making the Patient better instead of focusing to scam money from both my insurance and me. I have been a patient for Dr. Tony Choi for last 20 years. I have been calling Dr. Choi by his first name for as long as I can remember. Tony and his team has always been providing top notch services from day one. I recently had a crown came off with my night guard that never ever happened before. I saved the crown thinking Tony would just re-cement it back on. To my pleasant surprise, he checked into the record and recommended it was still under warranty so it would be free of charge. The lab work took 3 weeks and the night guard needed minor adjustment but everything is back to normal after a couple of months when I am writing this review. All and all, I can't ask for better service and professional care than Tony. It is a five stars service as always in my book. The doctor and his staff were very courteous and friendly from the time I walked through the door to the time I left. I particularly appreciated that the Dr. Choi spent a considerable amount of time getting to know my dental concerns, what I did and did not like from my previous dental experiences and not rushing me through the appointment. The dental assistant also spent a lot of time educating me and making sure that I am performing my home dental care correctly. This is a rip off dentist. I filed a grievance at Delta Dental. Please let your insurance know how much you spent at his office. I was at his office with a $59.99 coupon for evaluation and he said that I needed two implants and some other work on my molar teeth. They called me a couple of days later to find out if I wanted to start the implant procedure, I told them that I didn't have the money for that procedure ($8500) I was then cited to start fixing my teeth the following Sat. Jan 20 2018. When I was sitting on the dentist chair, Dr. Choi told me that I needed to pay $600.00 as a co-payment, to which I replied that I called Delta Dental the day before, and they told me that it covers 100% extractions and x rays. I also told them that I needed to fix only what was cover by my insurance. Dr. Choi put the anesthetic shots and walk away and told me to wait 30 min. for the Anesthetic to take effect. A few minutes later he came back and told me that I still need to pay 50% of the extraction fees. I just got very upset and walk away from his office. He put the anesthetic on the wrong side of my mouth and he was going to extract a couple of my teeth in which I don't feel any pain and leave the one that bother me so much and for which I went to his office to take care of. Dr. Choi doesn't care for his patients, all he is trying to do is the most money he can, with each patient, and he tried to get money from me twice in a single visit. This guy is still at it.... a real shiester. I went for a cleaning after seeing his "$39 Special" card that arrived in the mail. He immediately started telling me what was wrong with my mouth, that I needed a night guard ($450) and after a super special x-ray machine he showed me where I supposed needed a crown, adding all sorts of intimidating statements. I said I couldn't afford the mouth guard. I then said I couldn't afford a crown right now, and replied "I'll give you a special for $850". So I said OK and I booked it for Dec. 20th (this was Dec. 10th) and signed lots of paperwork, which I'm pretty sure included my credit card number, and needing 2 days before cancelling an appt. After a couple of days I decided I would wait... I had a funny feeling about this guy, and the staff were not very happy campers. I called an left a message to cancel the appt......... at least 4 days before the appt. On Dec. 23rd I received a letter in the mail telling me I would be charged $50 for not canceling ahead of the 2 days, which I am obviously not going to pay. I am going to report him to the Dental Assoc. Someone above said it was dbc.ca.gov. The only good thing about him and his office is that he gave me a good cleaning. What a creep. DO NOT GO TO HIM... I was a patient of Dr. Choi's from about 1990 until I moved out of the area in 1993. I came to him with a mouthful of neglect. After 7 crowns, I was back in business. At the time, I was struck by Dr. Choi's professionalism and caring. When he called me at home after the first major work was done just to see if I was doing okay, I was both shocked and impressed. Dr. Choi removed a wisdom tooth (I'm 56!) and did a great job. No extraction of this type is a pleasant experience but the recovery was very quick, there were no complications, and I didn't even need the pain medication he prescribed, just a cold pack for a day or two. Dr. Choi takes his time when your are waiting for him on the chair. You end up, like other reviewers have stated, told by the assistant to use the gum pick on your teeth while she just awkwardly sits there and stares at you the entire time. Sometimes they will have you floss, and she will continue to just stare at you throughout the process, not saying anything. When you ask why, she just says she wants to make sure you are doing it right. This could go on for anywhere from 5 -15 minutes while you wait. The cleanings have ALWAYS felt rushed and I just don't feel they care about their patients at all. The only staff member that seemed nice and caring was the receptionist. Dr. Choi's prices are very unfair to say the least and I've experienced much better service (cleanings, customer service, quality, etc.) from every other dentist I've been to. Would not recommend this place to anyone. And no, Dr. Choi, I would not like to discuss this matter any further. read more
