I've been here a bunch, for a bunch of reasons. I keep going back because I've never seen such dedication to one's work as I have here. Once upon a time, maybe in 2011, I had a headlight lens that had a piece missing. It was probably the result of someone's enthusiastic misaligned parallel parking attempt. The lamp still worked, but the headlight housing filled with water after rains. I drove around with that sump for a year. I had taken the car to Tony's for an issue with my alternator, which they fixed. When I was picking the car up, I asked what I could do about the headlight. One of the mechanics grabbed a rubber tube, slid it in the housing, and siphoned the water out. He primed the siphon classically, by mouth. No fancy tools. After the water had been siphoned out, some water still remained inside the housing. The mechanic leaned in and proceeded to suck out the water with his mouth directly on the headlight. He spit the extracted water on the ground. Then he put heavy duty packing tape over the where the crack in the housing was. He made a hand gesture at the headlight and nodded. At no time did that mechanic say a word. I said thanks, took my keys, and drove off. The alternator failed about 9 or 10 months later. I called up Tony's again. They replaced the failed parts at no charge. The packing tape stayed on for another 6 years. read more

Was he expecting from me an, "oh thank you so much for taking my business sir for this bureaucratic gig, for doing a routine checkup, easy money on a Saturday morning " ? Even though I have my reasons for not taking my car to my usual guy (i.e. he doesn't do inspections, it's a mom&pop shop that specializes in my car maker), those reasons don't really matter! Great place. I drove in from the city to inspect my car since everywhere in the city has zero parking lot space. The owner said it would take a while, but I told him I lived in the city. He then worked with his guys to make sure it was done within an hour. Everything turned out great, Ill definitely come back for an oil change. The owner was friendly and helpful, and gave me tips about how to maintain my car. Overall, the service was quick and professional. If it was possible to give this place 0 stars I would. Brought in my car today for an inspection and was told I needed new brakes which would cost over $200 in order to pass inspection. After speaking with a family member I learned that my break's condition were unrelated to passing an inspection. After explaining this to Tony he was extremely rude to me telling me that my cousin can come down and look at the car him self. I went back to pick up my car and still had to pay $37 for failing inspection. Okay, fine I can deal with that. What I can not deal with is the complete lack of respect I recieved. They saw a young girl and thought they could take my money and rip me off. He was extremely rude and arrogant and multiple times said "No offense". These guys are alright, but nothing great. I always go there b/c it's convenient for me. They fixed stuff on my car before w/out asking which is annoying (one thing was under warranty so I could've taken it to the dealer and had it done for free). They're also pretty slick w/ giving quotes, etc. Somehow I always end up spending more than I expect or intend to. Further more, I've definitely had to bring my car back to have the same thing fixed! My girlfriend needed her car inspected and since I wasn't working on a recent Friday, I was the one for the job to bring the car somewhere. Tony's Auto Repair was chosen and I'm glad it was. When I drove up to Tony's, he greeted me and explained how much inspection would be ($37) and that the mirror would need to be fixed. We agreed on a number and time for pick-up. After about an hour, I got a call back saying it also needed a few other things but he wanted to let me know prior to doing the work. He told me the prices and the total with the labor, which was nice. He also had a few other options that he noticed could be done, but at the time, didn't need to be fixed. I told him, thanks but no thanks. When I picked up the car, everything was fixed and I payed for the exact price we spoke about on the phone, but he showed me what the difference would be with one of his options, which was polishing the head lights. I called his bluff and unfortunately, I lost. A huge difference was found and I was really glad he showed me. I would definitely recommend Tony's Auto Repair because of the way they do business. These guys are amazing! They are very professional, do fantastic work, and are truly nice guys. I stumbled on their shop about a year ago when I was looking to renew my emissions sticker. Long story short- there were some computer system issues that made this simple task a huge pain in the butt- and Dom and Fred helped sort everything out. Since then I have been back a few times and they are always quick and reasonably priced. They really know how to take good care of their customers- which isn't always the case in this business. I can't explain the strangeness of this situation: I found myself arguing with a mechanic today because he wasn't charging me enough. I'm embarrassed to admit, but I did take my car in just because it smelled. I thought that something had crawled into the car and died. Dominique finally tracked the smell down to spilled milk under my kid's car seat. He cut out the stinky insulation, bleached everything around it and gave it back as good as new. I recently moved to NY and registered my car. I called ahead to inquire about inspection. They were going to lunch and told me to bring it in around 1:15. I was there at 1:30. They are tight on space and a customer was there ahead of me to get her car inspected. They asked if I could come back in 15 minutes. I did. They took me right in and finished my inspection right away while I walked around the neighborhood. I was told I would receive a call in about 15 min when the car was ready or if there were any issues. They didn't call, but when I returned 30 minutes later, the car was ready to go. The inspection cost $37. Cash only. I was surprised by the cash transaction. Being new to NY, I don't know what an inspection should cost. In my previous state they were free. A quick Google search now tells me is should have been $21. Live and learn. read more

The other day someone ripped the mirror off my car. I ordered a new one but couldn't get it on myself. I had a shop I used loyally when I lived in CT and was nervous about trying to find another one in NYC. I initially went to Tony's since they are local and got good reviews on Yelp. The reviewers are right! These guys are 100% honest and legit. I have been in several times for various items ranging from brakes/rotors, exhaust, and battery. Each time they were open and honest with me, showing me everything that they recommended should be done prior to doing it. That was the key...there was never any pressure to do things I didn't want to do. They made suggestions and were not pushy about it. The pricing is great and I firmly believe very fair. When I had my exhaust replaced, it was going to be far more than I wanted to spend with the OEM Infiniti setup. They were very accommodating by allowing me to purchase an aftermarket exhaust on my own and having it shipped to them for installation. If you're in the Williamsburg Brooklyn area, its a no brainer to use these guys. If you're outside the area, its worth the trip over to have them take a look. read more

I had barely made it home from dropping off my car when I got a call from Tony's updating me on the status of my repairs. When I came back to pick up soon after, they gave me an unprompted demo of the problem I was having, showed me some parts, and really helped me understand what was wrong and how they fixed it. Mercedes has this stupid thing where they put the maximum psi of 45 by the door jam and the recommended of 32 psi by the fuel tank. First let me say that these guys are the BOMBBBB!!!! (I had an amazing experience)... My engine light came on and I decided to go up the street to Joe's.. Long story long, I was quoted at $735 worth of issues that my engine "needed or my car was in danger of exploding"... not even kidding, that's verbatim what they said. now seeing as i'm not a moron, I had to at the very least a second opinion. I went to Tony's a week later and after explaining the situation to him, he told me he'd take a look. an hour later he called me back and told me to come down. Fearing my car was totaled, destroyed or had exploded, I walked in and he told me that the line connecting the engine to something else was disconnected and broken and so he replaced it. He went on to say that he drove my car around the block a few times and the car was running much smoother. Brought in a brand new car a week old for an inspection and was told I had to pay $37 and then $29 to put the plates on. Luckily I called my husband on the spot to let him know the cost and he said it should only cost $10 for a new car. He also said $29 to put four screws on to put the license plate on was a ripoff. I handed the phone to the owner Tony and when my husband said that it should only be $10 from inspection of new car he said ok if that's what it scans as that's fine but that's really slimy. And then he asked my husband how much he wanted to pay to get the license plate on. After hanging up with my husband he said he didn't have any "new car inspection stickers". Really?!!! Come on. Pros: Clean shop and work quickly. Cons: Yelled at me over the phone. Brought my car in for one issue and they claimed to fix it. I had to bring my car back multiple times because they created more problems after "fixing" the original one. My trunk handle was broken, went there work with Dominic. First of all, they charged double for ordering parts from the original manufacturer. Plus the labor was expensive too. The worst is didn't even install properly, felt the whole thing might come off. When i went back and asked them to fix it, they gave to the attitude and wanted another $60 just to put 2 screws on, said that it didn't come with the original part. Then I went to another much better auto repair guy and they called the manufacturer, found out the handle was less than half of the price and does come with those 2 screws which Tony&Son didn't even bother putting it on. They also replaced my belt and stabilizer bushings a while back. But started making noises again after a couple months. Overcharge and lousy mechanical work is what you can expect from them.
