I went to Model A Transmission & Auto Repair because my car's check engine light came on. I went to AutoZone to get the code to figure out why the car's CEL came on. Me and my dad surmised I needed a new valve cover gasket and possibly a new oxygen sensor. I met Julio and showed him the code and he told me he would look at everything relating to that code, as it was not very specific, for $150. I let him diagnose the car and code in more detail and he was very thorough and knowledgeable about the issues and recommended the valve cover gasket replacement, and suggested I clean my MAF sensor to see if that would make the code go away. I felt that I paid a worthwhile price to have knowledgeable people take a look at my car and make sure it keeps running for a long time to come. My dad did mention this shop does command a premium comparable to some other locations, but it seems they do quality work. I did not feel pressured to do extra work nor did I feel pressured to complete the recommended repairs right then on the spot. I felt that Julio clearly presented my options in a very professional manner that gave me the information I need to properly repair my car, and save money at the same time! If I need some services performed on my car in the future, I will keep Model A in mind. read more

So I go to start my Jeep after realizing I'm a idiot and left a light on in my car all night once again . I drained my battery to NOTHING . I turn the key . It wouldn't start at all . Had a Roomie try to jump me . Nothing . I call AAA to roll my car to Model A after telling them what happened - it was around 4:45 pm and this shop closes at 6:00 . AAA pulls up and literally this interaction was literally 1 minute because the guy looked at my car and said I was "parked too close to car in front of me " and said to call again later and TOOK OFF . Well that helped me a lot didn't it?!! What the HELL are we paying them for ?! Thanks for NOTHING!! I call up Model A again and spoke to Julio , updated him on what just happened after walking in their shop earlier and telling them I would have AAA deliver my vehicle after telling them my situation ... They sent a pair of gentleman 10 minutes later who successfully jumped my car . His partner hopped in my car and drove it to the shop while the other one gave my boyfriend and I a lift to their shop 2 blocks away . They popped in a new battery and did diagnostics... I was outta there shortly after their closing time . Even when I paid the damage - I didn't feel like my misery and desperation was "preyed upon" . Julio is THE MAN! I brought my car in because it over heated and died in the street. I had been told by another mechanic that I needed a new catalytic converter but Julio told me that that was untrue and that there was a much easier and cheaper solution. He physically showed me the leaks in my car that my old mechanic had missed and gave me pointers for how to keep my car going strong for the years to come. Came here for an inspection. Main guy told me these was a long list of codes that would take at least a couple grand to resolve. Wouldn't quite me a number. It felt weird so I wanted to get a second opinion. A few weeks later I took my car to another verified nys inspection shop and I passed in 10 minutes. No codes. Hate that I spent 150$ for a diagnostic that was complete bogus. Hopefully someone will learn from my mistake. I took my 2012 Maxima there with the service engine soon light on. Julio check it on the machine and said a mass air flow sensor needed to be changed and quoted me $700.00. I have an extended warrenty so he called and the part was cover 100% minus my $100. dollar deductable. He said they agreed to pay a portion and I would have to pay the rest, my part being $350.00. Ok so he said I would have to bring the car back the next day because he would have to get software to reprogram after he changed the sensor, he asked for my number and said he would call me. He never called so I went online did some research and found mass air flow sensor spray that cost 8 dollars and it fixed the problem. I called my warranty place and they said the authorize the work parts and labor $382.00. Why that dude tried to rip me off for $700.00? The guy who was there (so sorry I never got his name) was more than eager to help me out and told me to give him a few minutes when I walked up to him. He was very nice and sweet when he walked back up to me asking for the key and said it'll take 5-10 min for results. NO. FREAKING. JOKE. 5 minutes later he strolled in and said okay you're done! I honestly couldn't believe it. I had to double check that I passed because my car is super old (99 Nissan that was bought off an old lady). I m not sure how this place has good reviews maybe it's me but I had an emergency as my car was overheating I took it in to this shop and the owner took at look at it. Asked me for a deposit called me later on that day and informed me that I need to flush my engine and fix a leak and that I needed a new starter and new battery. He sold this request very good so I agreed but later on when i got home to checked all the work that was done on my car and noticed that my starter was recently change about 14 months ago so all it needed was a new battery not a starter but since he already started the work I couldn't go back on it. So it took 3 days for them to complete the job. When I came in to the shop to pay my balance and pick up my car owner gave me this story that how they put in good work on my car. What felt weird was when I was leaving he said "if anything come back and we will check on it" I found that weird because if you fixed it why would I need to come back. Sure enough the first time I drove it (not when I left the shop) the car immediately overheated and I called the shop to find out why do I have the same issue I thought it was fixed. He said bring it in. So I brought it in he ran his diagnostic and told me you need at least 1,500 worth of work I don't think it s worth it. So I was like wait!!!!! You originally told me the problem was a leak and you fixed it and you also got me to buy in that I needed a new starter I have to say I was RIPPED off That was my experience. I will never go to this shop ever and will never recommend them My expectations when I go to a mechanic is to diagnose the problem and fixed it not patch things up so I am force to come in again or misdiagnosed the problem This shop cost me money, time and my car as I had to give it up because I wasted a load of money for something that didn't solve the issue Never again read more

Highly recommend. I never write reviews, but Julio was really wonderful, and it's been hard for me to find a fair priced, honest mechanic in Brooklyn. I took my car here after getting some really high quotes from a bunch of other mechanics on replacing some spark plugs and ignition coils. Not only did they give me a really great price, but they through in an oil change, and had my car fixed in a couple hours. This was the only shop that gave me a quote over the phone, and didn't mark up the prices for the parts. Overall a great experience, and I'll definitely be back. read more

I brought my van in because I could hear and see a belt was loose and wobbling. Being a woman, they figured I must be an idiot and tried to take advantage. They said 2 pulleys where broken beyond repair and they would have to go in through the radiator, taking apart the whole front end of my van and replace them. That was obviously a load of bullshit because I could climb under and get to the belt myself. They also told me it was unsafe to drive my van to another mechanic. After they quoted me $700, I took my van for a second opinion and it turns out the tensioner just needed tightening, it cost a fraction of their quote. read more

He explained everything that was happening with my car, kept me updated and took me to my car and explained what parts meant and what they were planning to do to fix the problem. Given the stellar reviews this place received, I had my dad come in to have his broken side mirror replaced. Julio was a wonderful guy to speak to, very friendly, so I was like...yes of course I'll do business with him. So, they ordered the side mirror and two days later, the mirror came. Julio gave me a call to bring the car in to have it fixed. I told my dad to drive over. Now, here comes the problem--not with Julio, but with one of his mechanics (Julio's father?). When my dad arrived, he was told to go into the office (because it was hot outside and there was AC in the office) while one of the mechanics began working to install the side mirror. My dad went inside, but out of curiosity, he went back out to check on the mechanic fixing his car. Guess what? In the car door interior, there is a circular indent (seemingly caused by a drill bit) with the synthetic leather peeled due to the drill. My dad asked what had happened. The mechanic said "it was there before. We didn't tell you because we thought you had known." Then the mechanic spoke to everyone in the shop, and everyone defended the mechanic (of course they did...). They offered to glue the leather back in...lol? And after I talked to Julio, he acquiesced to refunding the cost of labor, as he was unwilling to own up to their mistake and change the entire synthetic leather door interior (I presume it is expensive). I'd be okay if he or the mechanic owned up to the mistake and I would've spared writing this horrid, but they didn't. This is not just bad customer service--this is outright lying to customers who did nothing to deserve this. Just to save a few bucks, these guys are willing to take advantage and outright lie to my dad (who doesn't speak English) than to admit their wrongs. They knew he had no power as it was their word against his. Not good. Very shady people. read more

I didn't even have the option to take it to another shop to try and patch. then when it came time to pay he charged me 250 WITHOUT BEING ABLE TO PROVIDE A RECIPT FOR THE ACTUAL TIRE. Had gone to this place for awhile and was happy with them until I had them change my fuel pump and filter. They took 3K from me and changed my oil. Immediately after, my oil light comes on and I called Julio. He told me "You have plenty of oil". I called him from a gas station off the highway. A few weeks later, my car dies and apparently my entire engine is completely gone because there was no oil due to a slow leak. Seems like he didn't tighten my oil pan enough and now I'm looking at 10K of repairs or just getting a new car. I called Julio and he completely refused to take any responsibility for this and said "We never touched your oil". Which is funny because when I had to get a new fuel pump and filter he had told me they basically had to take apart my engine which is why the labor was soooo expensive. AND he said he drained and refilled my oil, then reiterated when I called him that there was plenty of oil. So obviously he was trying to backtrack and lie so he wouldn't be held accountable for the horrible damage. I wouldn't recommend this place.
