Ralph is by far the best mechanic I have ever seen. In a world where mechanics are known to take advantage of women, Ralph is the complete opposite. He went WAY above and beyond to fix my car. My catalytic converter was stolen for the second time and my insurance didn't cover the theft. Ralph searched high and low to find me a new one and charged half of what the dealership quoted. My car needed maintenance, oil change, and something repaired because every time I hit 65 mph the car would shake and I had to lower my speed. Dropped it with Ralph for the whole day and got it right after work. And what can I say that Ralph is the best of the best mechanic in Brooklyn, he is just like my dentist the best of best in his line of work. I hit 75 and 80 to test my car and there was no more shaking, my car felt like it just came out of the dealer nice and smooth. I loved Ralph's. Go there! He did an inspection on my Honda Element and I am sooo happy. A sophisticated car shop in Berkeley, CA had told me my transmission was on its way out, the starter was broken and the car would be a piece of trash not even a shop would buy for parts. I told all of this to Ralph. He found, that the starter is fine, but the alarm needed reprogramming. He fixed my lock and changed some valves and the oil. He checked everything and says the car is totally fine and should be good for another 90.000 miles. He charged super reasonable prices, kept the costs low and explained everything. Okay so i saw all these good reviews about this place but holy shit, Ralph is too expensive and lazy. I went there on a Saturday around 12pm and asked how much to change my 2005 corolla's belt and tension-er & pulley and this dude wanted 120 to change it, did i mention i was bringing in the parts myself? Rip off anyone? Then I say to myself ok ok maybe its because i brought in my own parts so i brought my 1999 tahoe and asked to have the gas pump level checked(a 20min job) and he wouldnt do it instead he said it would cost 45 bucks to check it but he doesnt want to do it because it's a small job. This guy is not worth going too, not unless you like paying up like crazy when you don't need too. P.S: I wonder if Ralph himself had these guys write these reviews? read more

I am admittedly one of the most gullible people I know, and when I wander into places like a car dealership or auto body shop, I practically have written across my forehead: "scam me!" I've become a return customer at Ralph's because they don't treat me like a dumb girl, and they don't rip me off. They fix what is necessary, keep a steady eye to make sure everything else is in good condition, and otherwise charge very reasonable prices for the work they do. Oh, and it did cross my mind that perhaps I've already been scammed because I think I've gotten a good deal here but perhaps I'm disillusioned (again)......but I've compared the service and prices with other places, and this shop truly takes pride in its work and customers. It's a tiny corner lot, shady-looking and jammed full of cars, but in this case looks are definitely deceiving. read more

This guy Ralph is a master of his craft. He's fixed problems on my 2007 Tahoe that no other mechanic can figure out. I had him rebuild my 1970 Roadrunner, I no longer have temperature issues with the engine and that's one of the biggest problems with Mopars. Dude is a monster!! read more

Ralph is a stand-up guy. He just swapped the engine in my '98 Accord. While he had the engine out he noticed a few other things that would likely need replacing soon. My 1987 Stage-1 Buick 455 Regal-T is reliable and consistent due to Ralph. I mean ... this guy modified my 1987 Regal dash gauge cluster I created, and it's working great to this very day. Ralph modified and repaired my Buick, electrically, and mechanically ... way too much to list regarding the other repairs/modifications. I thank God for Ralph's Auto Center. What can I say? Ralph and his team are amazing, reasonable and knowledgeable. I have had a '96 Honda Accord and now a '00 Toyota 4Runner and he's babied them both. After a check engine light came on in my car I went to AutoZone to see what the problem was. Turns out the thermostat needed to be replaced. Went to the dealership to buy the OEM part and the promptly went to Salerno's in Williamsburg to see how much it would be to install. They wouldn't even touch the car because I bought the part myself. They said customers buy the wrong part and they want nothing to do with it. I was mildly annoyed to say the least. I'm pretty car savy but don't have the tools to do it myself. They did me a "favor" and pointed me in the direction of Ralph's. Called to find out how much it would be to install a thermostat and they said they needed to check and would call back in a half hour. 24 hours later (!!) they called and gave me a price. It was reasonable and decided to go to them to get it installed since I was heading out on the road over that weekend. Dropped the car off at 8am, they called at 11:30 to let me know they car is done and to come and pick it up. I checked the workmanship and it all look good. The test would come when I would drive 800 miles. that weekend. I'm happy to report, no check engine light. Hourly rate ranges from $60 to 70 an hour. The mechanics seemed like pretty decent people too. I'll return if need be. read more

I like Ralph's. I used them over a five year period from 2005-09 for my Volvo wagon. They are trustworthy and sensible about the necessity and value of repair options. I've written a review of this place before, and I want to update that review from 2010. They still rock. Anyone who is looking for a great neighborhood mechanic that you can trust (and will treat you well) should look here. They are car guys, and know about old Detroit machines and new cars alike. Don't bring them a YUGO or a Pinto, though. IT would waste their knowledge base. The bad review by Xavier seems petulant. Don't base your image of these guys on that review (it's hard to believe it's so high in the rankings). I've come here for years and trust them to not rip me off. If you are easy going to work with they will be too; if you are high strung & bratty they will likely not respond well to you (as nobody would) and you will not have a great experience. Bring them your muscle cars. Bring them your vintage European cars. They know how to work on them. At a time when the mom & pop businesses in the area are being driven out by condo developments and skyrocketing rents we should all be happy to have such a great mechanic in the area. Also, they have moved to McKibben Street, so look up the address before you visit. Not sure why Yelp hasn't updated the address. read more
