I share this because I called 3 other places no one answered and no one ever called me back. Second he was so friendly, kind and compassionate even over the phone! Third I'm writing a unique review because I didn't have any extensive work done on my car. When my car wouldn't start I had it towed to Ambato. I was nervous all day thinking something major and expensive was wrong. In the end it was a dead battery. He didn't even charge me for the inspection. He didn't try to make up issues. He was honest straight forward and I was blown away. Since I had it towed I went ahead and had the oil changed lol for good measure and to give them some business. I do not wish any car issues especially the expensive kind on myself anytime soon but you can trust that if I do I'll be calling Ambato first and settling for no one else. I came to Ambato auto service after my vehicle had its catalytic converter stolen for the second time in less than six months! It was painful enough to have it happen the first time and yet it happened to me AGAIN less than six months later during Covid! If this has never happened to your vehicle you are one of the lucky ones and perhaps I am not since it happened TWO times and this is an expensive part to replace because it contains precious metals that are appealing to thieves. Luis and his staff are incredible honest, quick and efficient - and very friendly in case that matters to you when it comes to your mechanic. Really really nice-- I came in in a mild panic ten minutes before they opened with brake problems and a weekend of driving upstate on the horizon. They had it fixed by 3pm and let me pick up the next morning as I got stuck at work. Took me upstairs, explained what the problem was, gave me an itemized receipt, and let me know to keep an eye on my brakes but didn't do anything unnecessary. I all of a sudden had some issues with my shocks so I brought my car to Ambato based on reviews. They were so fast, they took my car right away and it was done the same day. He also called before he did any work to give me a breakdown of costs and labor, and he showed me the parts that were bad and what parts he put in the car to fix it. Excellent customer service. Only tip for customers is pay in cash unless you want sales tax added to your bill - added additional $80 to my bill because I paid with card. read more

Short and sweet- got a $65 ticket for a missing inspection sticker (...err, non-existant) yesterday and set out to remedy the sitch asap this morning. After being turned down by at least 6 other places (too busy, wanted me to drop it off -not happening-, didn't perform inspections anymore, etc.) I moseyed over to this place where I was greeted by Luis. He was friendly, immediately took me in hassle-free, performed the inspection, told me I needed new brake pads (which is entirely true!) And voila! Less than an hour later I was on my way, no wait, no BS, in a safe and street legal vehicle for less than $200. Thanks so much! These guys rock! read more

Luis (owner/operator) is extremely nasty and disrespectful to deal with, and actually thwarted the repair. I went to his shop to begin with because Luis had a high number of 5 star reviews on Yelp and I counted on that to seek out his repair expertise. I have no idea why he pulled a stunt on me. Im sure he has his reasons, but for a repair in the neighborhood of $2500, he acted so rudely and was so oppositional that I could not possibly work with him. He shot himself in the foot acting out as he did. The story below. Went in for an annual inspection at Ambato and code lights indicated problem with Catalyst Efficiency. Luis told me I needed to replace catalytic converters (right and left sides) and instructed me to get OEM parts only, no aftermarket, since according to him, the aftermarket parts stop working after a couple of years. He told me I'd have to get the parts myself, which I found odd since any other time I've had auto service (over a span of 45 yers), the auto repair proprietor had obtained the parts for me. However, I didn't mind this because I thought this would help me save money. As instructed, I called my dealership repair center and was directed to a web site that catalogued exhaust system components for my auto, of which there were many. I reached out to Luis to provide guidance as to which parts in particular he would need to install, and provided him with a diagram of the system parts copied from the dealership website For the second time in 24 hours, Luis was nasty and as uncooperative as it gets. He told me that I had "interrupted" his work and refused to specify which of the myriad components would enable him to properly repair. Again I tried to pin him down to facilitate selection of the needed components but for some unknown reason, refused to pinpoint the parts for me. It is all very curious, and ultimately extremely disappointing and time wasting. I sure hope this was an anomaly for the rest of you out there. read more

This place is awesome. Luis is such an honest, trustworthy guy. I'm so glad I found Ambato. I needed some brake work done on my Honda CRV a while back. Took it to the dealership (yes, I know that was my first mistake) and they wanted over $3K for brakes, rotors, caliper replacement, fluids, blah, blah. I was shocked. So I started looking around and found Ambato based on positive reviews. Brought the car to Luis who determined that the calipers were fine and the pads and rotor replacement (front and back) cost me only $400 for parts and labor. So, from $3K to $400! I can't say enough good things about Luis. Not that I wish for things to go wrong with my car, but I look forward to taking it back to Luis for everything I need done. It was the last day I had to get an inspection before I could start getting ticketed (I'm a procrastinator) so I called Ambato Auto & was told I could bring it right in. Luis, the owner, was very nice, he had my car inspected in under twenty minutes and he assured me that there were no outstanding issues. I needed to get work done twice in one week for two issues I was previously aware of and had already received quotes. On my first visit, Louis got me in right away and had my car repaired that day. The price he quoted me me that day was what I paid up front, so I came back two days later to have the second issue fixed. That job ended up being a little less than he quoted, and altogether I saved about $100 from what I had been previously quoted. These guys are super nice, friendly and upfront, and they charge really fair prices. I'm a nervous driver and they helped me park my husband's car when I dropped it off for an oil change. They also let me know that depending on the oil used the price would either be $50 or $90. When I picked up the car an hour later, they had already parked it for me down the street so I wouldn't have to re-park it myself, and let me know that the oil change was only $50. I stopped into Ambato - based on the good reviews here and the shop's proximity to my apartment - and was not disappointed. I had just purchased a used car, and wanted to make sure I got the oil changed ASAP. They took care of me right away, and when I told Luis, the owner, that I'd just bought the car, he offered to look it over at no charge. His diagnosis was that the rear brake pads and rotors would need to be replaced soon, so instead of procrastinating I figured I'd get that done too. The whole thing took less than two hours, was very reasonably priced, and everyone in the shop seemed super friendly and happy to have my business.
