We've always loved shopping at our local Tony's! When in doubt Tony's will have it in stock. We came by after a doctors appointment to just stock up for the week, when we walked in all the fruits and veggies were stacked high, and fresh. It was so nice to see fresh fruits that don't look like they've been picked through. We bought tons of fruits, an freshly squeezed juices. Including some horchata and strawberry aqua Fresca. Both delish and gone within a day by the way. We picked through some of the deli, and butcher sections and love seeing the variety of items from different cultures. Overall a great market, we will be back! read more

The one thing I always liked here was the fresh vegetables, but lately they've been a bit worse on quality and freshness. The only good reason to shop here is the Tuesday senior discount day which saves you 10 percent (you still need a store account to get the discount so keep that in mind). Today was my second visit on a row where the checkout person wouldn't bag my groceries. They don't ask you to do it, or offer to do it themselves, they just let everything pile up at the end and then act annoyed. I see other checkout people bagging groceries for the customers so apparently it's just the luck of the draw. So, fine, I'll do it myself. As I'm bagging my own groceries the checkout woman starts ringing up the next customers groceries! Now out stuff is mixed up because not only will this woman not do her job properly, she won't even wait for me to do HER job for her! Her name was Karen (I believe her last name initial was S) and if anyone cares even slightly about keeping this store running they'll train her and the rest of the employees to do the bare minimum moving forward. This was my worst experience here so far. I noticed my favorite cashier was pushing carts outside for some reason, I miss that young guy. He knew how to treat customers and always put his best foot forward. The fact that he's pushing carts while I'm stuck bagging my own groceries is a clear sign of mismanagement at this location, I hope they can improve because otherwise I'm done shopping here. read more

A nice store with lots of selections of products from around the world. At lest the Latin America selections. Items that you might not find anywhere else in the area. The place has bright lighting and pretty organized. The workers are friendly and helpful. Self check out makes lines go fast with options for those that prefer the traditional check out. Prices can be competitive with others in the area. My go to picks are plantains (green and rapped) green bananas, arroz Rico. read more

I'm pretty picky about my grocery store and can't seem to find the right one. Cooking a lot of Mediterranean, Italian, and Mexican meals requires good quality ingredients and especially local. I came here on opening day and found a great selection. If you're looking for a great produce selection with authentic harder to find fruits and veggies, Tony's has it. If you're looking for a great selection of seafood, meats, and cheeses, Tony's has it. There are 3 aisles of authentic Mexican, Polish, and Asian ingredients and they have pretty much anything you need for a great meal. read more

Just when we couldn't love them more we lost our phone and wallet there, Gabriel one of the associates found it and turned it in!! Saying we are grateful is an understatement. Welp. I'm reviewing a grocery store. So mom of me. Things about this place are great. Others are terrible. The salsa and hot bar are great. However I have gotten bad meat here twice and am more careful about that now. Produce is usually very good, but not too great when they advertise prices with coupons that you clip in the app and they don't apply to your total at checkout. This has happened on my latest/past THREE shopping trips. This time I bought it I store and decided to go to customer service for a price adjustment this time as the other times I caught it at home and didn't bother. She asked to see the coupon on my phone. Which is weird , but okay. Then (of course) my phone was frozen on Netflix, so I couldn't show her that I clipped the coupon (as she asked to see if I had it "clipped") I told her I did... not good enough. She could see I added my loyalty card number at checkout. I told her yes, I clipped the digital coupon... I could have pinky promised. Maybe she had would have worked. Darn. Hindsight. Anyway. She told me she "would honor it this time but next time I had to show my phone" and that "someone else might not help me" then she said she had to put the $4.00 on my card. Well, I paid with Apple Pay... because... well, they accept Apple Pay. But apparently everything falls in their favor when it comes to their computer systems; their coupons that don't apply and accepting payments that they can't refund. Looking back I think in situations like this if she would've just been kind and not rude, I wouldn't even be writing this review. But between the bad meat, the prices not being accurate with advertisements/coupons and even more so; this manger(?) Trisha and her very poor customer service- it's simply buyer beware... you could end up over-charged and treated as if asking for the correct advertised price is a hassle and a 'favor' to you. Or at least if you have to ask Trisha for help. But that salsa is good... read more

After adding insult to injury, after being verbally attacked my Tricia in customer service rep. I thought I purchased was a whole ham. Thank God I did not freeze this whole ham, and take it out at Easter and cook this for my Family thinking it is a ham. I removed the skin from what I thought was a ham, made a brown sugar. Pineapple, honey, balsamic, mustard glaze. Cooked in over at 4 hours. Started to slice what I thought was a ham it was not. It was a pork roast. What is going on there that they are selling whole hams as a pork roast. What would have happened on Easter if I Would have cooked this for my family. I feel deceived and disgusted. I tried to reach out to this Frank W, twice by e-mail no response , I am assuming they don't give a rats as what is going on in there store Shameful and disgusting the way you think you can treat you customers . read more

Worse meat ever third time and skirt steak is hard to chew they used to sell good meat but last ones were bad

I keep giving this place chances but after my last visit I'm not going to waste my time anymore. If you decide to shop here, I recommend you check the expiration date on every single item that you buy. I'm usually impressed by their meat department but my last visit, I purchased New York strip steak and it tasted rancid/Metallic... hard to describe but it did not taste like steak. My husband said it tasted like liver??? Gross. Anyway- plenty of other options in the area, I won't go out of my way anymore. read more

When Tony's came in I was very excited to have a new competitor after Fresh Market went belly up. Now I can only assume that they are the same company under a different name. Tonight after buying a few things from their 'hot bar' I, well, THREW IT UP. And I can take it. Now, in a way, that's not fair to Tony's since people can touch food and so on and no one would know. But here's what happened. I chose a short bucket type thing and got a few items, then there were no tops. I asked a woman in gloves who was cleaning up "where the tops where" and she took my food and dumped it into a different container with the very hands she was cleaning with. I decided not to be upset by this. My BIG mistake. It could have been her hands, or bad food, or someone else...but I will NEVER EVER EVER buy hot food from Tony's ever again. Nor cold nor anything. Overpriced and under spiced. Why did I do this to myself? I am not sick enough to go to the ER but maybe I should just to teach them a lesson. And then contact the health department tomorrow AM. NEVER AGAIN, Tony's. I called the store and spoke to Marisol. She questioned me but I had to get off the phone to puke up some more. I am finally feeling better principally because there is nothing left inside me. But now I can feel my intestines gurgling, so I know what that means. Was expecting a lot more. Did not honor prices from ad on opening day. Said there were printing errors... if giving one customer spending $100 a $1.00 off from a price you advertised during your GRAND OPENING is too difficult I can only imagine what else they will do once the store is fully open. Really rubbed me the wrong way. Like others have said, everything not on sale is way overpriced. Product way overpriced. Meat okay. Grocery large display but empty shelves on opening day... and non sale items almost $2 more than chain stores. I heard the tonys stores from Chicago were very cheap from friends. Had a fine time until it was time to check out. I greeted the cashier and started putting my items on the conveyor belt. I had quite a few items but tried my best to move quickly. Both the bagger and the cashier looked annoyed. I kept smiling trying to be pleasant. I bought a candy bar and the cashier threw it in my direction on the table that connects to the conveyor belt. Didn't ask if I wanted out of the bag or in a bag. I also purchased candles and the bagger dropped one of them on the table. It wouldn't have bothered me normally but the whole interaction irritated me. Still I said thank you. read more

This review is being written during opening week, so some of the issues I encountered can be due to that. For instance, 3 of the items I was interested in didn't have prices on them. So I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt that their price labeling will improve as they settle in. Speaking of pricing, this store reminded me a bit of Kohl's, where the prices bear no relation to reality at all. This surprised me a bit since the grocery market is so competitive. Here is what I mean: I try to buy all organic produce and the loss leader that they advertised that pulled me into the store was organic apricots for $1.99 a lb. Their produce section is so vast that I had to ask an employee to find them, but sure enough I got a bag of nice looking ripe organic apricots at a bargain price. It is clear that whoever designed this store's stock had the local Hispanic market in mind. They devote a lot of space to that. And they also appear to have continued the tradition of the former occupants, with a decent selection of international groceries. I was pleased to find a bar of marzipan from Austria, a personal indulgence of mine. Since I haven't been able to find this in other stores in the neighborhood, I'll likely be back here just for that. And other organic produce on sale. BTW, this was one of the items whose price was unmarked but I was relived to find when I checked out that it came in as standard retail. Here is what I mean about goofy prices. They had some Home Run frozen pizzas on sale for 2/$10, a good price. But others of the same brand were $7.99. That is higher than anywhere I've ever seen, not competitive at all. Many other prices were high too, and that is compared to Meijer, right across the street and their prices tend to be high on non-sale items. So shop carefully unless you don't mind overspending. I went through the self checkout, a process I have previously resisted, but it is just the new reality. The one item that didn't scan I got help with immediately so no complaints. Bottom line: I will continue to use Aldi's and Mariano's as my main stores for groceries. I will likely only come back here for sale items and you-know-what-else:) read more

I too was excited about Tony's opening. The Grand Opening wasn't. I'll give Tony's credit for carrying a large variety of items. However, prepare for sticker shock. Perhaps their price reflects the thought that you might get all your shopping done in one place. Still, not worth it! If I want Whole Foods or Mariano's quality (and prices) I'll just go there. I stopped in on aug 19th and purchased some items shortly before they closed at 10. Couple of days later I noticed they pulled pork had expired the day I purchased it so I decided to return it. I've recently had quite a few health problems so unfortunately it was a week or so till I could make it back to the store. When I explained the meat had expired the day I purchased it 5 minutes before they closed and said I wasn't comfortable consuming the pork after a 5 days in my fridge. The asst manager Charlie said he wouldn't return it. He was rude and acted like I was wasting his time. This was my first experience shopping their and wasn't impressed. This was my first time here and I was very impressed with the cleanliness and Chicago grocery store feel. I miss my city grocers and it was nice to see a great variety of Italian items as well as traditional butchers who can customize your meat selection. Always have loved Tony's fresh market. Before it was hard to find great deals and variety of products catering to minorities around this area. You always had to go closer to the city just to find fresh sofrito or make it yourself. There's a lot more Asian products too besides the little corner that walmart and jewel osco has. The fruits and veggies are fresh. Meat is a bit pricey but given that has gone up EVERYWHERE because of the pandemic, I can't blame them. read more

I have been to Tony's many times for shopping and the service has been ok. Today, however, while using the self check out machines (compared to the ones at Walmart, meijer, aldi), these are not the greatest. I put in my debit card, and it said issue with chip, I took the card out again and did the same thing to get the error again. So, I took it out because it said malfunction. The lady that was there I told her that the machine was frozen, to which she replied:"No, it's not sweetie you just need to put your card in.". I told her that I took it out because of 3 malfunction if she could check as it had told me that it couldn't read it. She again says, sweetie, and comes to where I am at when I showed her the message. She proceeds to fix it and then starts to laugh, to which I do reply that there was an issue with the machine, not that I didn't know how to use it. To which she continued to laugh. My husband was in the register next to me, and I didn't want to make a scene, so I told him to stop because he told her that she needs better customer service skills and she continued to laugh under her black facemask. I did ask for her name, and she said Jocelyn or something like that and usually has a black facemask. If this is a manager, she is extremely unprofessional. First of all, don't call anyone sweetie when they ask a question. The tone used is deemeaning, and second, that's your job to help the customer not laugh at them when they need assistance. A simple act on her part to acknowledge when I had the question could've avoided the whole issue. So Tony's, please talk to your employee Jocelyn- older I am guessing hispanic. Tony's now open - sigh I was so stoked about Tony's. I miss Garden Fresh so much and we don't have many close options. When my BF Kim ( https://gofund.me/9631cd9f ) called me and told me they were open and asked if I wanted to go, I jumped at the chance. We went and the place was packed! I think this was more a critique of Meier than how great Tony's is, but I didn't know this at the time. It's a beautiful store. The produce looks amazing. It's not cheap but not terribly priced. Certainly better than Meier, but that's not a big ask. Next we went to see the meat. Butera is still the go-to for meat, All in all, it was good but not great with regard to prices but I thought I might still go there for produce. We went to check out and that's when all hell broke loose. First, we had to use self-checkout, which I hate, but it was the only way we could get out before midnight. The machine kept erring out. We had to get help over and over again. Then I noticed that the sale prices weren't coming up. I asked the lady working there what the deal was and she said that I would get the sale price at the end of the sale. It didn't sound right, but I thought , okay. I finally finished my items and paid, but it did seem awfully high. I helped Kim check out her items and she had the same problem. I asked her about the Jacks pizza's she bought, she realized that she didn't get the discount. I reviewed my receipt and I didn't get the discounted items. I kept thinking I must have been reading the receipt wrong. We finally got a manager and they told us that we had to be loyalty members to get the discount. Seriously? You just opened the doors? You cannot get the discount without signing up for their loyalty program. There was nothing telling us that and we already paid for everything based on what the checkout manager told us so we couldn't just walk out. Now the worst part for me personally was that one item, the bacon, was on sale for 3.99. Which isn't really a sale price, but fine. Instead I paid $5.99 which I would NEVER pay for 12 ounces of bacon. What's more, they were rather nasty suggesting that the issues we were having with the checkout was user error. Well, their attitude and the way this went down left a really bad taste in my mouth. I felt cheated. I will admit, I do not like loyalty programs generally. If the only way you'll give me a fair price is if I give you my personal information, is that someone I want to give my money to? Worst of all, the few discounts they give aren't really that great. I guess I just don't see how they expected you to become a loyalty member the first time you open the door? I've never been there before. Today I ran into Tonys to buy coffee, but I ended spending much more. Anyway I'm at self check out and I'm searching through my wallet my find my debit card, I feel the cashier push something on rhe register I was on as I was still looking for my card. when I found it I swipe it and nothings happening. I look at the tender and it was on LINK/EBT. So im confused because I didn't hit link, I'm using debit, that's when I realized the cashier pressed it when she reach past me. I thought it had timed out or something and she was fixed it.. I never looked at what she was doing. So I asked her why did she select link, did she assume that I was using link because I was black.. because that's how I felt. I didn't ask for her assistance for anything anyway. I stayed polite. I also pointed out that all the chip boxes were open just in case a few bags were missing. She then further insult me by saying " are we really gonna do inventory on a box of chips" I said yes I am, I paid a price for a certain amount and I expect to get what I paid for. I was imprhessed by the size of the produce section when I first walked into the store. After looking for fresh Dill, I asked stockman and , he said they "didn't have it yet ". That's not such a strange produce. Okay, I was mostly there for the sale items. I was looking for an isle that has something like "International" and couldn't fine it because I was looking for a "Kosher"or Jewish section. At least 2-3 isles are stocked with Mexican products from beans to cooking and serving items. I asked one of the managers walking around, it was very crowded. He tried to locate the isle but no luck. He came back and said that they hadn't brought the section over from tohe Chicago store. (?) The Jewish sections in this area (Jewel,Mijer, Mariano's) are definitely not big but maybe 30-40" in an International Isle. The only other place I have not found a Jewish Section is at Lewis Foods in Waukegan. Tony's does have a nice meat section. I will check again when the Jewish Holiday's are around the corner to see if they have some shelf space. The store is really large and bright and the parking lot is newly paved. After the initial grand opening period, things may quiet down and I'll try again, but right now, it's not my go-to shopping experience. read more
