You can try escaping Walmart, but Walmart always finds you.... even on vacation.!!! We rolled into the Gurnee, IL location bc our hotel thought we were pixies and gave us shampoo & body wash bottles fit for Tinkerbell.... cute but i need more than just a tiny drop of shampoo!! This Walmart was suspiciously clean and almost too organized, like someone summoned it straight out of a suburban dream. Jaime in electronics was very nice and helpful and the night crew shuffled around w pallets like retail workhorses waiting for dawn. The real win here.... (shhh... its a secret) No 10-cent plastic bag tax (like in Cali)!! Sweet, sweet Midwestern freedom!!! THAT ALONE made us so excited!! Another plus was how empty the store was during business hours... not very much traffic, which was nice!! The parking lot, though... eerily empty!!!!!!!!! Honesty so ratchet but that's kind of expected. Horrible customer service, there's a bunch of 16 year olds running around but can't actually help with a single thing. We had come in to buy a sports watch from the jewelry section. Mind you, it was only $20 but they still had it locked up. It took literally, an hour and endless customer service calls for someone to come and unlock the case. We were literally standing there about to search the desk and find the friggin keys ourselves. So unprofessional, it was just a $20 watch, but they're treating it like there's a rolex in there. Jeez!!!! After tracking down 6 different people, whom none had keys for the case, finally out of the sky fell an associate with the keys. Hallelujah! Finally... until we waited another 20 minutes for him to test every key on the ring, until the right one unlocked the case... do you guys not even label your keys? It was like watching a horror movie.. the anticipation.. What do your workers even do all day? Had we known it would've taken over an hour to track down any willing employee, let alone one with the correct keys, all to unlock a sorry $20 watch, we would've been out of there instantly. Walmart has been my go to store over 35 years way before they became a super center. The Round Lake and the Gurnee Illinois stores are very clean and reasonable prices. Service people are always stacking product. They are always stocked with your favorite items Well except during Covid:( Customer service is on point and I make it a priority to know cashiers by name. I have noticed that the Wal-Mart Supercenters are generally better than a standard Wal-Mart store (as they should be anyway), but I am just starting it. I have visited the Supercenters in Niles, Lake Zurich, Palatine, Waukegan, Wheeling, and this one in Gurnee. My favorite one is the Lake Zurich one followed by the Niles one. I can't remember what I went to purchase at this Supercenter on my recent visit, but the couple of times I have been here, I have found what I went to buy without any problems. Of the parts of the store I went to, I noticed that the store was clean and properly organized. The checkout process was easy. Not a great Walmart unfortunately. Not maintained very well, disorganized, not clean, long lines, poor staff, and honestly not a place I care to shop at. The parking lot says it all, very run down, garbage everywhere, has a low class vibe going on. This Walmart location is bringing down the Gurnee area, it should be remodeled, and have more of an upbeat vibe going on. The location is in the nicer home area of Gurnee, needs to be reviewed by upper management for a nice refresh and to increase the store presence! Went to buy a steam carpet clener. It was heavy but loaded it into the car. Turns out it must have been a return the store reboxed. Screws were missing, cord not wrapped but loose in box. Now I know why , I barely shop at Walmart .My wife put on-line order in at a 8am and it is now 6pm and still no delivery. We called the store they said the driver never picked up the order. So then we just decided to drive to the store and pick up the order and the staff told us the the wrong pickup location, then I tried to get another employee attention when we where waiting and she flat out ingnor us. I just encountered the rudest, nasty and pathetic excuse for an employee at the Pharmacy. I had selected a OTC cold medicine and inquired if I could make the purchase at the Pharmacy since there was no line. The employee was extremely rude while telling me to go to self check out. I asked her if this was a restricted item needing an attendant to verify she she nastily said no. I went to the self checkout and of course it was a restricted item needing an attendant's input. Now I have to wait for an attendant to arrive to complete checkout. If this woman worked for me and she spoke to a customer like she did me I would fire her on the spot. read more

Walmart is Walmart on its best day. So I expect the crowds and the strange atmosphere. I don't even mind the random children standing outside the door selling candy with no uniform, no sign and no adult in sight. The part that bothers me is rude employees. Like, is it my fault if you don't like your job? Don't be a pain in my butt! But on this trip, 2 out of the 4 employees I encountered were actually helpful. One actually looked for the life preserver that I wanted to buy and the hair was cheerful and pleasant. I was looking for swimming stuff, which is officially out of season now. With the ignominious award of Duke of Walmart, my progressive friends would certainly disown me if they knew. With all I know of Walmart's horrible labor practices, i.e., showing employees how to enroll in food stamps rather than pay them a fair wage, forbidding unionization, withholding hours to decrease the number of full time staff for the purpose of saving on benefits, outsourcing to foreign countries to keep costs down at the price of putting American manufacturing out of business, you'd think I never shop there. But I do! Why? Because of prices. I'm reticent to admit it's my go to for anything, but I'll swing by to pick up canned soup when it's on sale, or get a cell phone charger, buy a tent or pick up blank CDs, I'll drop by when I want something where quality isn't as important as price. You can shop online as well and have items shipped to store to save even more. The store is impossibly big. There are so many staff, it's like a city in there. Many are good, others maybe not so interested in my satisfaction. It's clean. God forbid you have to wait for customer service. That line is like purgatory. Worst is when you wait in line at customer service only to find out you didn't need to wait at all. It's a bargain all right--a devil's bargain. read more

Yesterday's groceries never arrived, at all- and they're often late, with questionable "fresh" items, and ridiculous substitutions. Headed too quickly toward the same atrocious store as Fountain Square. There is NEVER any merchandise on the shelves. It reminded me to the national stores in the former Soviet Union. GREAT MANAGER - KIRK I placed an order online from California for my daughter that just arrived to Illinois. I had a few problems with items not being available. Store manager Kirk took the time to walk to the department section in which my items were and hand picked them for me! It's not everyday you come across such great customer service. In the past few weeks I have waited over an hour for my orders to be dispensed to me at the pickup area at least 4 times now. The order says it's ready but I still end up waiting an additional hour beyond that for it to be loaded in my car. I have to call the pickup department, and cross my fingers that they answer the phone to get any attention brought to my order. After not reaching anyone on the phone, I then have to get out of my car and practically corner an employee to get the order dispensed. It's really unacceptable, if my order isn't going to be loaded within 15 minutes of me arriving, then I don't want to get told it's ready to pickup. Put more employees in the pickup area. read more

I find this Walmart to be much better then the Waukegan location. The Waukegan location is closer to me, but i'll go a little further to shop here because its cleaner, the prices seem to be a little cheaper and overall at this store the employees seem to be more helpful. This location is a SuperCenter so it sells groceries as well and I find its easier for me to shop here then at an actual grocery store. I can get almost everything i'd usually need on my shopping list here. The Sam's Club is right next door as well! So if you have a membership there it's just right next door if you need to buy things in larger quantities/bulk then what Walmart sells. read more

When I park in a Walmart parking lot, I take a moment to sob, then pray, then move any grocery carts away from my car. Are there ANY carts that don't have 3 wheels spinning and shake the mudd out of ya when you push them? And can Walmart PLEASE reduce the size of said carts - the majority of your shoppers are bad drivers as it is - don't make it worse. The WORST help I've ever experienced over the phone. Not only was I put on hold for well over 10 min but I was also hung up on TWICE!! All I had was the simple question of "Does your store carry Room Dividers/Separators". The woman who answered the phone was very hard to talk to due to her very Thick Accent but mostly because she NEVER let me finish asking my damn question. Came on a Sunday and bought 5 DVDs. Went to the express line and waited over 20 minutes! This has happened over 3 weeks in a row ! Finally, after waiting another 10 minutes on hold to speak to a manager, Greg came on the line. I explained that I was frustrated to wait 20 minutes in line, the only excuse he could make was, "we're busy and I was in the back." I went here in the middle of the night to grab some essentials since I was staying just down the street at a hotel. There were a lot of associates there stocking and staying busy. It's great that they were indeed working hard, but they were working so hard at stocking the shelves that they seemed to forget about how to act around and treat customers. There was stuff everywhere, and I get that they were working on shelving everything, but don't forget to say the occasional "hi" or "are you doing ok?" to customers. So I had to work my way around the maze that the boxes of stuff made to the cashiers... only there were like no cashiers. I had to walk alllllll the way down to the other end of the store, and there was only the self-checkout stations open. Thank god I didn't get too much stuff! Ever get stuck with the self-checkout when you've got a whole cart full, and when you need extra room, you're afraid to move anything off the scale because then the screen does weird things and locks you out from doing anything else, and the light starts flashing, and you feel like it's signaling someone to come cause now it looks like you're stealing something? Yeah-I wasn't interested in dealing with all of that. So anyway, with all the robots working in there and having to do self checkout, I felt like it was those self serve grocery stores that they're trying to come up with. My wife immediately called, Jennifer the manager was on it! My boyfriend, my 1 year old daughter and I were stopping here before her first birthday party to get some beer for the family. I was turning 21 in about 19 days, and I was holding my daughter in my arms when my boyfriend went into the liquor section to get the beer. The checker asked him for his I.D. and then turned to me and asked me for mine. I told her I am not 21 but here is my I.D. She told me he could not get the beer because I was with him. We had her call the manager and she ( who was very rude) told us the same thing. Over all, we had to stop at another store to get the beer and we ended up being late to our own daughters 1st birthday party. People who saw the whole thing even said that it was a little ridiculous and they should have just given us a break and sold it to him. This has made my experience at Wal-Mart horrible, not to mention on a different occasion, they accused me of stealing something and I had to wait for them to take all of my info while my daughter was sick at home and needed me. The only thing worst than shopping at Walmart, is working there. Walmart is own by Sam's Warehouse, they have a nasty costume to ask to see your receipts as your walking out the door, making you feel like a would be thief. I bought a PS4 pro at this location and when I got home it was a old scratched up normal PS4 . Awful costumer service, as usual! I'm not sure why I bothered to come back. Not only did the cashier not know how to activate other store giftcards, nor print off an activation receipt for the lady ahead of me, I had the worst time price-matching an item that was on sale at Walmart.com. When the manager finally came, she looked at my phone and didn't want to pricematch the item because the description phrasing on the website was in a different order as the box for the functions of the product. It was the same picture, same quart size, same functions, same original price... My receipt had 8 voided out items, one being another item scanned twice. Meanwhile, the line was backing up outside the lanes. Next time, I'll just go to Target, where they are more pleasant, pricematch without hassle or huffiness and know how to work a register without having to call the manager for every little thing during the busy season. read more
