The Scene I've really tried to like Tony's. My family and I have visited at least five times over the past three years, hoping each visit would be the one that changed our minds. The restaurant itself is fairly basic, but one thing that has always stood out is the parking situation. There are only a handful of spots near the entrance, including a single handicap space, which can make pickup inconvenient. My first visit set a less-than-great tone. I ordered online and pulled into the drive-thru line, assuming I could pick up my order there. When I reached the window, I was told - rather emphatically - that online orders had to be picked up inside. As a mobility-impaired veteran, having to park in the back, walk through the rain, and retrieve a to-go order wasn't exactly the welcome I was hoping for. The Eats Unfortunately, the food has been inconsistent across our visits. The first pizza we ordered had an extremely thin crust that ended up soggy in the middle. On another visit, we tried the appetizer sampler and pizza. The pizza was actually much better that time, but the appetizers were overcooked. The mozzarella sticks, in particular, had reached the point where the cheese inside had become rubbery and dried out. Today, we stopped in for lunch and ordered a shrimp po'boy and lasagna. My husband thoroughly enjoyed the po'boy and had no complaints. My lasagna, however, was a struggle. The sauce was sparse, leaving the dish tasting mostly like heavily seasoned meat and cheese. After a few bites, I couldn't continue. Everyone's taste buds are different, but the balance of flavors just didn't work for me. The Service Service has been hit-or-miss over the years. We've had some perfectly fine interactions, but that first pickup experience has always stuck with me. A little flexibility - or at least a friendlier explanation - would have gone a long way. Parting Thoughts After multiple visits over several years, I think it's finally time for me to accept that Tony's just isn't my place. That's not to say others won't enjoy it - clearly they have a loyal following - but the inconsistency in the food and some less-than-memorable service experiences have kept us from becoming regulars. My husband would probably order the shrimp po'boy again, but for me, this was my last attempt. Sometimes a restaurant and a customer just aren't the right match. read more

Tony's Pizza in Lake Charles, La. is a must when you visit! We always stop by! Best po boys, pizzas, etc. Great service, excellent food, and adorable Italian decor! Love the ambiance. I've always loved their side salad - really all of them, and it's normally a favorite of everyone's until recently. They have replaced their yummy iceberg mix lettuce with the darkest green leaves and everyone I know doesn't like it. Cheerful decor (they had lit up with jack-o-lantern and other lights for Halloween) cozy ambience, and basic good food. Meatballs were tasty, and the muffaletta pizza was remarkably good. Service was earnest. Price point very modest, and the facilities are what you would expect at that point. We got two sodas, a large dinner salad to share, the meatballs appetizer, and a 12" medium pizza generous with the meat and cheese toppings (enough for two men) for $47. Staple Restaurant in LC! Took my group of 25 on a Friday night and they welcomed us with open arms! Amazing service. Amazing food. The spaghetti and meatball pizza is the best kept secret in Lake Charles!! The shrimp Alfredo pizza is divine and fried ravioli is a must go to especially if you need something with a kick! I stopped in here for a late supper with family on Friday night. We were seated right away. Our waiter was friendly and helpful. I ordered the Friday special which was Shrimp and Crawfish Etouffee over Angel Hair Pasta with a Side Salad and Garlic Bread. The Salad was excellent; the Bread was a tad on the dry side and just okay after eating the wonderful pasta. The Etouffee Pasta was wonderfully tasty and delicious. My memories of good times at Tony's Pizza go back to the early 70s and through the years when the dining room was expanded, the new shiny tables were added, and various menu additions like the medium sized Chicago-style pizza crust, the iconic po-boy bbq sauce being out-sourced along with appetizer and dessert items being added and the imported candies on the front counter. The Italian Sausage Po-Boy is memorable for its amazing flavor and ability of the lovely aroma of spices that you could savor at home the next morning when you awoke. The ground beef pizza with the jalapeno topping that were also ground was revolutionary and incredibly smart and it's remarkable that I haven't seen ground jalapenos replicated by a pizza restaurant in the fifty years since. I now live near Austin, TX and we have a number of pizza restaurants representing a variety of pizza types from Brooklyn, Neapolitan, Detroit, Connecticut, California, that are baked in a traditional pizza oven, wood-fired, coal-fired, etc. and many that are nationally ranked and reviewed and I love most all of them, but there's something iconic and exemplary about Tony's Pizza in Lake Charles with the toppings, sauce, and their pizza crust that I love today as I have the last fifty years. We were so pleasantly surprised by Tony's Pizza! This pizzeria has been in Lake Charles since 1968, and it's a gem! My friends and I stopped in and ordered a few different pizzas, and my goodness, they were fantastic! You order at the counter when you walk in and then they bring the food to the table for you when it's ready. The service was great, everyone was super helpful as it was our first visit and I love that it's got a nostalgic pizzeria vibe inside. I wished we could have stopped in again while we were in town because the food was beyond good and I wanted to try more than the pizza. When we sat down we had to wait forever to get our drinks, then they said since I had a straw that they thought we had already ordered drinks. This place came highly recommended by a few friends who frequent Lake Charles and also grew up in the nearby Texas cities so when we made a casino trip, of course we had to stop by here. Tony's Pizza has been around forever and is a staple in Lake Charles. However, when I was checking into my hotel and had a conversation with the front desk staff, she advised me to go to Mellow Mushroom instead because according to her it's "slightly better". Well, I was meeting my friends at Tony's so to Tony's I went. Turning into the parking lot, the first thing I noticed was the long drive thru lane. Apparently people would rather order drive thru instead of dining in since the dining area wasn't very packed. There was plenty of parking in the back of the restaurant so that wasn't an issue. My friends were already here when I arrived and already ordered a couple of pies. Our waiter was attentive and friendly and he provided awesome service. The pizza, I thought was just okay. Good? Sure. But it didn't really blow my mind. I thought the sauce was delicious, but the sauce to topping ratio was meh. Look at the picture and you'll see that they're pretty stingy with the pepperoni. So even though we had pepperoni pizzas, to me it felt more like eating cheese pizza. Don't mind coming back with my friends the next time we're in town, but I hope they'll be more generous with the pepperoni when we do. read more

I've been eating here for perhaps my whole life, but have to say it's going down hill. We live in these trying times of inflation where every dollar counts as cost of living hurting many of us to where most locals find it hard just to go out and eat anymore. It is bad enough eating out getting more costly but I find it disgusting that the cashier at the drive thru is asking me for a tip by handing me a device to add him a tip. Tonight was the last straw. The guy working the window gave me a total for the bill of $36.78 and I verbally repeated that amount he hands me this device for a tip and I said oh you asking me for a tip so I gained him a dollar bill. He asked me if I wanted a receipt and I said no that's ok. Once I left I saw he added himself another dollar to Mr card. I find this despicable!! I know the owner died a few years back and perhaps there's new management. The place was always good food with great service. I'm sure the owner is rolling over in his grave. I was always taught growing up it was rude to ask a customer for a tip especially coming from a cashier. read more

THE BEST PIZZA PLACE EVER! We are from out of town, and was looking for a yummy place to help our casino hangover. Decided on some pizza, and though other reviews look decent, we still were thinking, it's just pizza. We were soooo wrong! It's the best flavors we have ever had. We had toasted raviolis, baked Italian cheese bread, 12" Tony's super deluxe pizza and onion rings. The marinara sauce that comes with the raviolis and cheese bread is the best I've ever had. I hope they bottle it and sell it cause i want it back home! You can taste the roasted garlic and possibly other veggies along with the tomatoes. It's kinda sweet, but not sugary; it just brings out the flavors of the sauce so well. The raviolis are filled with a spicy ricotta cheese, perfectly crispy. The pizza's crust had a crisp bite to it, not doughy or soggy. The gyro meat was awesome. They have this Tony's sauce that's kinda like a sweet bbq sauce. I put it on everything, it was that good. For the ranch lovers, they make the ranch in-house, buttermilk style, (so the best tasting ranch there is) o-rings we're beer battered, crips, and hot. Cheese bread was yummy too, it's deep-dish pan style so there's crispy bits of cheese and crunchy bread on the sides. It's really fluffy and full of cheese along with pepperoni and ham. They had pastas and sandwiches and full menu of things I wish I could try more than the 1-2 times a year we visit. WILL be the first place we eat next time in town. read more

We went here because we were referred here. This place was good for people that like Chicago style deep dish pizza but if I would've read that this was the pizza they had I probably would not have gone, wasn't a big fan of the pizza. We are New York style pizza, people, and also ordered the shrimp Poboy, but came on sesame seed, French bread, and we were hoping to get the crusty bread, but they also had the shrimp taste like out of a frozen box. I used to live in Lake Charles a few years ago and I would eat there fairly often. It was good back in the day. Apparently it's gone downhill since then. Recently my Uncle ordered lasagna to go from there, and he, his wife and myself all got sick the next day. His son didn't eat any and was fine. When he called them they denied any responsibility for giving us food poisoning. I won't be going back. If you choose to eat there, beware. read more
