We continue to return to Pappy's Deli for the consistently great food at reasonable prices. Today I had half a turkey poboy; my husband had half a shrimp poboy and fries. There is something about their turkey poboy that satisfies my taste buds and makes me order it most times when I'm there. The wheat poboy bun is toasted just right, the turkey is moist and flavorful, and combined with the Swiss cheese, lettuce and tomato...well, it's perfection! Was in town for work. Decided to stop in and check out the burgers. The bartender was not only absolutely beautiful, she was EXTREMELY nice. Sometimes I can't decide whether to go here or Darrell's but hey why not both HA. The Jalapeño Baked club sandwich is the bomb and they dressed their sandwiches with jalapeño mayo DELICIOUS. I wrote a positive review 4 years ago and was saddened to see the big changes that have occurred since. Since the big remodel, it's now basically a bar. Waited over 30 minutes to get my lunch which was cold and service was terrible. Even though there were only 4-5 other people in the place, I was late getting back to work. If you are looking for a traditional HOT HAM & CHEESE this is the place to be. Every time I come to LC I get one. My husband likes anything they make. If you are looking for a hot ham and cheese with a nontraditional flare to it go to Tony's Pizza and ask for extra sauce on the side. read more

I went to Pappy's for lunch on a Friday. We all ordered a shrimp dinner. Two also ordered boudin balls and I ordered one kibbie. It took 45 minutes to get our meal! Don't go if you are on a one hour break! The food was very good but we had to take most of it to go because of the slow service. They were out of tea and did not make anymore and it was lunch!!! I called back the next day to order 2 kibbie to go an hour and a half before I wanted to pick it up. I got there 10 minutes late and the girl asked if I could wait awhile because it hadn't been prepared yet!!! Really???? Not a soul was in the deli!!! I will never go back there again even tho that was the best kibbie ever!!! They couldn't care less!!! read more

The gumbo here is good, however, I ordered it to go today and was not thrilled when I got home. The large gumbo wasn't even filled up to the top and there were 4 pieces of chicken and 3 pieces of sausage. Such a small portion with no meat is ridiculous for $8.95. Not sure I will return after this experience. Disappointed. read more

Since the remodel the place has considerably diminished in quality. The yelp page says "good for kids," and this used to be true. Unfortunately, in addition to poorer quality food they have now decided to make the left half 21 and up only, despite the right half being a 21 and up bar already. Seems like a poor business decision. I have many fond memories of quality food and fun family lunches at this establishment, that are now, like so many things, in the past. 40 minutes!! 2 sandwiches, 40 minutes!! When I asked the waitress for an ETA, she grumbled at me and made a snide remark. When I went to the order desk after 30 minutes, I noted that the table if 4 that ordered after me and the gentleman right before me had both eaten and left. Finally spoke with the Mgr and he said he would give us our $ back. Really? 40 minutes, no food, no apology, nothing. If you have an hour to waste, sure come get a half sandwich, they ARE tasty. I had been wanting to eat here for a while,because I had heard good things about them.Well I finally got the chance to go for lunch today and I was very disappointed.I ordered a shrimp poboy and fries and only took one bite of it before I opened it up to see what was on it.What I had was two thick pieces of French bread with a slice of tomato that looked like it was a couple days old,a piece of lettuce,a little mayo,and five small shrimp.All I could taste was dry bread,even my French fries were not cooked all the way.I ask the young lady working the register if this is how they normally make their shrimp poboy and she said she wasn't sure but offered to get me more shrimp to go on it.I waited for about ten minutes and by this time my friend was already done with his food.I had lost my appetite so we got up and walked out.I don't think I will ever go back again! read more

This place was awesome. It's a small little hole in the wall. We were passing through on our way home from visiting family for Thanksgiving & decided to give them a try for lunch! I ordered a chicken salad sandwich & it was a small portion compared to what everyone else ordered (including the kid's meal we ordered), but it was very, very good. My dad ordered oysters & he said they were cooked perfectly. My son had a "kid's sized" cheeseburger that was big enough to feed 2 children or 1 adult. Everything was really well cooked & fresh (made to order). The staff was also really great! If we lived closer we would probably make this a regular place! read more

Home cooking done right, PoBoys from the deli are terrific. Im a 20 year customer with few if any complaints, a great place for lunch.

Great po-boys and burgers. Oh and the baked jalapeno club is awesome! Love their bread. Nice, clean restaurant. Good service.

One of the best restaurants in Lake Charles. I eat here at least once a week. They make everything after you order it in one of the tiniest commercial kitchens I have ever seen, so expect a wait. Everything I have had from here has been phenomenal. My two favorites: The Crazy Dude - a country fried steak sandwich the size of your head, and the Jalapeno Baked Club. It gets busy at lunch during the week so it is best to avoid peak hours. read more
