Walked out then- looked at Yep-and they had 1 star. Went to my second home again for the 4th-saw some new reviews and thought they had changed ownership. Nope hot food sat in a doorway at waist level- while two servers looked at it for 7 minutes- then this person walked by with a wet mop at the same level as the food sitting in this doorway - then walked back into the kitchen pass the food with the same mop. This place is amazing!!!!! Spotted it off the highway and decided to check it out!!!! The food was fresh and hot! The wait staff was super friendly and smiles on their faces!!! We have the fired raviolis and the were super tasty! We also had a order of wings and I must say these were prob some of the BEST wings I have ever eaten! The crust was impeccable!!!!! And last we enjoyed TONYs pizza!!! This pizza was worth the stop!!!!!! The crust was perfect! Not to think but to thin! The veggies were diced which made it more enjoyable!!! They simply offer too much to name all the first-rate food here, but you can't go wrong ordering the "Tony's Special" pizza or the daily special. Also worth mentioning here is the Sterling salad, meatball po-boys, and Italian Sub if any of those should strike your fancy. Friendly, family-oriented atmosphere, they are open 7 days a week from 9am to midnight. I've never had a problem here with the food or the service, although they are a little bit inattentive sometimes. Also pick up a jar of their Italian Salad Dressing made fresh and bottled daily. Really disappointing experience, especially since many of the reviews were decent... You order when you first walk in, and since there was a lot of people in there, it made it for an awkward ordering. You then sit down, (DON'T sit in the booths, they people behind made it feel like a roller coaster) a waitress comes up and asks if you need anything, but I had to go back up to the order counter to add something to our order...again, weird. Pizza was OK, nothing special really - salad was OK, nothing special either except for the dressing which was home-made and really good. The only reason they are getting 2 stars is the dessert was excellent, a turtle cheese cake, which they don't make in-house. When you pay, you take your ticket up to the front and wait in a bottle neck to pay...again even though I presume they've done it this was for a while, it isn't working! My mom and dad met at Tony's when she was a waitress there in 1968, so while we might like Tony's just for sentimental reasons, that's just not true. There's not a lot for healthy on the menu (all of the salads have pasta and/or super heavy dressings with them) but you're not here to be healthy. You're here because it's vacation and it's amazing but it can be confusing if you're not sure how to Tony's. Let me help... Order at the counter and be quick. Get your little paper tab and wait by the brick doorway to be seated. Someone will inevitably come out and ask what you had to drink - somehow they NEVER have your drinks even though you ordered at the counter and they're on your ticket when you pay. And then get comfy because the food will arrive and your brain will melt. And take some time to appreciate the pornographic logo cartoon. ;) Don't miss anything with the Italian dressing on it or at least buy a bottle to take home. The fried cheese is enormous. The marina sauce has a hint of cinnamon and the spaghetti and meatballs are the best you're going to find around LC. The Broccoli Cheese Bites have ham in them so warn your non-pork eating friend. Get the garlic bread if you're getting something g that doesn't come with garlic bread. Trust me here. DO NOT avoid the garlic bread. I'm not talking about the cheese bread - forget that stuff. GET THE GARLIC BREAD. I don't have much experience with the pizza but my niece got a "Spaghetti Pizza" last time we were there and good gravy - that thing should be on television. It's a Frankenstein dish. The po-boys are really good too and meet that Italian-Southern US happy place that we're all so frenzied about here in New Orleans. The lemonade used to be SO GOOD but I haven't had it in decades. Desserts are great but I don't know that they're made in house. Fish your little paper tab out from under all of the mess on your table and take it up to the counter next to the counter that you ordered at and pay. I ordered Tony's Pizza to be delivered through ASAP (Waite) I realized I use the wrong credit card and I wanted to change credit cards or have them stop making the order so I could re-order. Unspeakable. My family and I had such high hopes for this restaurant hearing that it was titled "Lake Charles Best." We went in when they weren't busy (about 5 cars). This place is a joke. The entire staff looked like they were a bunch of teenagers who needed a summer job. The garlic bread came quick, but this was the only positive thing. My family and I waited over an hour and NEVER received our SIMPLE CHEESE PIZZA. We wish we could've tried it... Another family who came in 20 minutes after us received their SPECIALTY PIZZA before us. My father politely asked our waiter if our pizza was in the system and on the way. The service was quick and our server was very attentive. We had mozarella sticks before the pizza which were delicious and the pizza shown here is the meat lovers which was also good. It is thin crust. The only thing that I was not a fan of was the amount of tomato sauce on the pizza. It's great for people who prefer just a hint of tomato sauce on their pizza, unlike myself. Worst customer service. Placed an order for 10 wings and told them I will be there in 10 min. They forgot about the order. This is the 4th time. How dumb can their staff be to just take an order and forget to give it to the cook. For this to happen 4 times , when I expressed my frustration to the manager all I get a was a rude response and he hanged up the phone on me. This is local quality of staff. So what next - blame the COVID for stupid staff . Great going guys. Update: I came 23 min after the order was placed. The manager was very clear that they forgot to put the order in. I drove to your restaurant after you guys have said that it will be 15 min at the latest. So a simple sorry after 3 times of the same behavior is not acceptable, which they did not even offer. How many times would you expect your customers to come and wait. To top it off the girl went inside and totally forgot about my request and had came back again to ask for the order. That is when she went and talked to the cook who took the ticket from the place where they put the tickets. I have been noticing what they are doing because this has become a routine - placing an order over the phone and coming and waiting. I am curious how desperate the owner has to be to put up with that kind of workers. As for your free hand out - no one is desperate for free food . You first need to know that. Second the reason for free food is to make sure that you really care, which obviously don't and you care about money than your customers. Apology is free , so to make mistakes and keep offering it is not going to win customers. Also I did not care for free food, the conversation of free food never happened at the store but on the phone after I left the store. Also there are instances where they put in 9 wings instead of 10- and I had to go back and get them to put the extra one. It clearly tells who is looking for free handouts. Local store caring for local customers - great traditions since 1968. Listening to one side of the story and judging the other side. Great going. And by the way every one respects hard working people. What they don't respect is people who pretend to work hard. May be you need to check up on that because they don't even know how to get the tickets taken care of. Out of all the options to eat in Lake Charles, our head was going in circles where to stop for lunch. I decided to pull out my handy Yelp app and find a place as we were only in the city for a conference for the day. Tony's pizza came up and we stopped in here. I don't know what I was expecting but it definitely wasn't this. You order at the counter once you enter and you need to be quick as people will start to line up and you start feeling the pressure. I ordered a broccoli pizza - I know, I am one of those people. But you can get any topping you want with the lunch special, which comes with a soda and a salad. You then pay to the left at the registrar and are promptly seated somewhere in the dining room. The dining room was packed and the tables are seated close together. I got to eavesdrop on the entire conversation of the people at our table behind us, that's how close we were. There is one small bathroom, one stall, that was continuously beind used and I had to wait awhile to use. The decor is kind of tacky, with adornments all over and plastic red checkered tablecloths on each table. As far as the food, the pizza was good and we ate it all up. The salad was wilted and globbered with what tasted like bottled caesar or ranch dressing, and I didn't eat it at all, which is a first or me as I almost always eat all my food or take it to go. But I had never tried the pasta until today. When looking at the pasta menu, I realized that 90% of my options had spaghetti as either the main entrée or an accompanying component. Seeing this I thought that they must be pretty proud of their spaghetti! I ordered the cheese bread appetizer, the chicken Parmesan, and Apple pie for dessert! So the first time I bought the apple pie from Tony's it didn't even make it to my house, 3 miles away! In fact it only made it about as far as McNeese campus before it was gone. It is so good that on more than one occasion I have went to Tonys for a couple slices of it. Apple pie ONLY! This time I got it to the house and saved it just long enough to get a couple pictures of it! The only problem with the apple pie is that they microwave it before they give it to you so it's hot. I know this cause the outside is always scalding hot but the inside is cold. I realize they can't make the whole pie fresh to order so it isn't that big a deal especially since it is so great! The cheese bread is amazing! I love it! I will definitely be going back for that! Along with being smothered in cheese it also has bits of ham and herbs on it. It is toasted the correct amount and it's just great! The price is right for this item as well! Just $5 The entree comes with a side salad and it was good. Nothing special about it. No cheese. Just lettuce, carrots, and ranch dressing. The chicken Parmesan is so disappointing! The only part of the dish that I finished was the garlic bread. I spent $11 for 2 bites of chicken 3 bites of spaghetti and garlic toast. Let me explain. The spaghetti pasta itself was good it wasn't goopy. The sauce tasted like Ragu. It wasn't seasoned and there was nothing special about it. This disappointed me because they feature it in almost all of their pasta recipes! I thought that it would be something homemade and special and if it is, it tastes exactly like Ragu. The very most disappointing part is the chicken. It is 100% MICROWAVED. I'm also certain that it was previously frozen as well. Fresh cooked chicken, when you tear it apart threads into fibrous parts and is juicy; any cook knows that. When you microwave chicken, it turns rubbery and tough. That is exactly what this chicken tastes like. It's so rubbery in fact that I can't even bend it with my fingers! Let alone tear it apart like normal cooked chicken would! I'm so upset that I'm bringing it back and making a formal complaint when they open in the morning. There is no excuse for serving previously frozen, microwaved rubbery chicken. I want my money back! I could have bought an entire bag of this [crappy] chicken from Walmart for the price they charged me! The ONLY reason I'm giving this place 2 stars because I know that not all their food is complete [crap] like this chicken Parmesan! I'm a long time fan of the pizza here, especially the shrimp (big, plump, & juicy) although I think its a little overpriced. The ham & cheese poboy or Italian poboy are some affordable delish items to try (yummy juicy sloppy with their special BBQ sauce!) my mom loves the roastbeef poboy also...I adore the creamy pesto sauce with the warm Italian bread sticks. Also, try the toasted ravioli appetizer. My house side salad was mostly white leaves of iceberg=yuck! Waitstaff is usually quite slow as they like to chat with the customers (ok if a slow time, but gets a little frustrating if it's busy & my cup is empty). And they are often very busy.
