Over the past year, I have trusted Tony's Shoe Repair in Glenview with my two most favored pairs of shoes that I own. As a person who takes her shoes very seriously, this was a big deal- I don't buy shoes often but when I do, I wear them to the bone- and both of these pairs I was unable to find replacements of anywhere to buy new. Thankfully, Tony's Shoe Repair was able to not only bring both pairs back to life, but also enhance their overall quality that their designer brands could never even try to do! The first pair was a pair of Stella McCartney heels that I had bought pre used in very rough shape, but their structure and shape and height were what I had been looking for forever and are shoes that I can wear all night at a wedding with no pain- the insides where completely shredded and falling apart, the whole structure of the shoe was crumbled besides the outer sole and heel- Tony's Shoe Repair completely restructured and created the shoe above and beyond what I could have hoped. Thanks to Tony's Shoe repair, I will have them forever, and their quality now is better than if I had bought the pair even brand new. The second pair of shoes was a pair of designer boots known for their rugged but very specific and purposeful detailing that retail for around $900 (don't worry I didn't pay anywhere near that, I bought them used) but the soles were completely detaching and there were several signs of wear- the look of the shoe new is supposed to be a "worn rugged edgy" look, which can even be harder to repair and maintain the look of the shoe, but Tony's enhanced the quality, maintained the "cool" artsy look of the shoe, and perfected them. I also embarrassingly completely forgot I had dropped them off at Tony's because I had gone so long without wearing them because of the condition they were in, and they were kind enough to graciously remind me, and even stayed open later for me to come and pick them up. Tony's Shoe Repair operates with such integrity and does only the highest quality of work as well as high quality customer service. They are kind, organized, professional, and genuine. I had a hip replacement in January 2022. Unfortunately the leg with the replacement was 15mm or 0.59" longer than the right. I had tried lifts in my shoe, but it never seemed normal. I bought two pair of sandals, and since you can't put lifts in sandals, I asked Tony if he could add lifts to the sole. These were not the easiest sandals to add lifts. But he agreed to try. When I got them back, the first thing I noticed was what an aesthetically beautiful job he did. But even better, for the first time in over two years I felt like my legs were even! I used to go to Michael's Shoe Repair in Winnetka, but their prices were too high. I find that Tony's is much more reasonable, and they do good work. A sign of a good and reasonable shoe repair is that you have to pay to fix holes, not to put them in. I brought some shoes in the other day and wasn't sure if I should punch more holes in the strap or replace the elastic, he punched a few holes for me and didn't charge me and that seemed to do the trick. Michael's would've charged me $1/hole. A couple months ago i had some Michael Kors flats that needed a new leather repair at the back of the shoe (where the heel meets the shoe), they did such a nice job and only charged me about $40. I will be bringing in some heels to replace the heel tips soon :) The only thing that is annoying is that this place is cash only and I'm one of those millenials that never carries cash. But you pay when you pick up, so you have time to go to the ATM at your leisure. read more

I recently brought a pair of Birkenstock's to Tony's for repair. John went above and beyond finding the right foot bed in order to make the repairs. Finding the foot bed took a few weeks and John called me with timely updates during the entire process. And once the footbed was secured the repairs were done in a matter of days. I had a pair of Gucci jordans refurbished by Tony's. They did a great job on a shoe that was not wearable. In fact i also had a very expensive leather bag buffed by them after the shoe job and again they did a wonderful job. They understand shoes and leather and can be trusted with expensive items. I had Tony repair my daughter's Uggs that she had since 9th grade and she is in her mid twenties now. These boots were beat down, leaning over and discolored. Unfortunately, I do not have the before pictures but believe me when I tell you. They made the boots like new. It was worth the $75. I'm pretty certain that this is the best shoe repair place I've been to in Chicago. They're under slightly new ownership (still within the family I believe due to Tony's old age) and you can definitely tell since everything is done with even more detail and superb craftsmanship--I was shocked at how good my shoes looked after they were done. I was initially nervous about bringing my expensive pair here for repair, but I could immediately tell that they had spent a tremendous amount of effort into making them look literally brand new again. Prices are comparable to other shoe repair places but they do a much better job. I also really respect this place because they're not afraid to tell you if they're uncomfortable with a repair request if they don't believe they can properly fix it--rarely happens since they're so good, but it shows integrity and that they're not willing to scam their customers for impossible repairs. Overall, I trust Tony's with all my shoe needs, and have recommended my friends to them...worth the trip! read more

I went to Tony's based on the reviews I read on Yelp and I sure am glad I did! I took well-loved (read: very worn down) vintage Gucci loafers (I'm talking, sole worn down to the stitching, etc.) to Tony's in the hope that they could bring them back to life and save my shoes. YES! Yes, they did! My shoes were re-soled without changing the profile or overall look of the loafer. They even restored/rebuilt the worn-down heel. My shoes look brand new again. I'm so happy. DO NOT GO TO THIS REPAIR SHOP!!!!! I brought in a pair of Christian Louboutins to have the rubber heel tips replaced. When I picked them up, the red bottom of one shoe was COVERED in black permanent marker. There were numbers and scribble all over, ruining the trademark red bottom of the new shoes (yes, the marker is visible when I walk in them - it's spans farther than the balls of my feet). I also brought in a white cork pair of Donald Pliners to have heel tips replaced and they were returned to me with black polish fingerprints all over them. When I pointed it out, the took a dirty polish covered brush and RUBBED IT IN. He smeared the black polish all over and ruined the shoes right in front of me - then he was adamant I brought them to him looking like that. He told me to "only bring him black or brown shoes". read more

I had a pair of black leather boots re-heeled here for $12 last fall (the heels are low and small so I think that's why this was so cheap). It was done while I waited half an hour at the coffee shop next door. I would bring my boots here again. The negative reviews found here were useful but I am happily walking in my boots again. If you paid over a hundred dollars for some fancy, delicate shoes, you should probably not be repairing them at an efficient, reasonably-priced place like this. read more

Tony's replaced a small purse liner for me in leather. He replicated the original design of the liner in leather with meticulous attention to shape, color and installed a small zipper. He also did this work with a fast turn around time for a fair price. He left no marks on the outside of my purse. I originally took this purse to another shoe repair shop, who would not touch it saying he could not fix it without damaging the frame. I would not hesitate to give Tony's my favorite shoes, purse or other leather goods for repair. He is capable of highly detailed work. read more

I used to come to see Tony when my dance shoes needed repair. Most of my experience with this location is for Irish dance shoes (both hard shoes and soft shoes) and specifically with Tony himself. Any time a strap broke or the sole of the shoe had separated, I'd bring it to Tony and he would fix it. He was excellent and I always recommended the shop and Tony to my friends and dancing students. This past week I brought in a pair of shoes to repair a seam that had split and I needed it for a performance the next day. It's been a while since I have been in the shop, they've rearranged things inside, and I did not see Tony. Another younger man welcomed me to the shop and asked what I needed. I asked if he could fix the seam rip and his response was that he would have to patch it. Now the shoe in question is not new and I really only needed it to get through one maybe two performances in the next couple of weeks so I didn't want to spend a lot of money fixing it. If I had a needle that would go through leather I'd have fixed it myself, but, not having one, I brought it to Tony's. I asked if there was any way to stitch the seam rip closed (an embroidery or zig-zag stitch should hold it shut for 6 minutes of dancing) and as I tried to explain how it could be done, the man got a bit aggravated and said "No, what you're explaining is far more difficult than patching it. Do you want me to sit here and stitch the shoe by hand for a half hour?" which was not what I wanted. I had not been rude when asking, I was merely looking for what I thought was an easier option for them. I guess (this was not explained) that the sewing machines they use for shoes only do a straight stitch, so what I was asking was impossible, but it would have been easy enough to say so. Long story short, I got the patch - $15 for one shoe. When I came to pick up the shoe the next morning, he couldn't find my shoe right away. When he found it, he told me it had been left out because I'd asked if it could be completed same day or early the next morning. Unfortunately I had not been able to get back to Glenview before their 5pm closing (on a Friday in rush hour traffic after work) and had asked either end of day or Saturday morning. He had said in order to get it done for Saturday morning he'd have to finish it by EOD on Friday so I could pick it up either time, so when he made a big deal out of me not showing up Friday I was a bit confused. So I reminded him (as I got out my money) that I had said I would try to get it Friday evening and if not Saturday morning. He grumbled about this as he got change for me. Overall, the patch job is pretty nice. The shoe no longer has a visible hole in it. I feel $15 for a small piece of leather inside a leather dance shoe might be a bit much, but the craftsmanship is good. I could have done without the attitude. After all the years that I have been going to Tony's for dance shoe repairs, I do not know if I will be back after this last experience where it seemed like such a hassle and everything I said seemed to be wrong or irritating to him. I know there are other people who work at this location, so if you don't want a relationship with the person who is repairing your shoes this may be a good place to go. I'd give 1 star except for the quality craftsmanship and my past experiences with Tony himself. read more

I took my repair with me simply because I didn't want to have to come back and talk to this guy ever again. They fixed my daughter's expensive custom softball backpack as good as new in a few hours for $12. It had a huge rip near one of the zippers. I can't even tell where the rip was.
