Brought my girlfriend's coach boots to him because one had ripped out of the soul near the toe. He did a great job glueing it back together but upon inspection it turned out a zipper tag was now missing on one side, and the the zipper itself was jammed now. The owner was pretty rude and didn't even make an attempt to see if the lost zipper was anywhere and just insisted they don't magically fall off. Needless to say that was a less than helpful response. Shame too because he did the job great, and a good price but returned damaged shoes and refused to acknowledge it. Every time I entered the double security doors to drop off and pick up my repaired item was like riding a time machine back to the pre-digital era. "West Irving Shoe Repair" is a one-man shop. The old boss gentleman is very friendly and obviously knows his craft. The only downside is that cash is the only form of payment accepted. Honestly, he would have lost money with all these card transaction fees because whatever he charges is beyond reasonable in my opinion. The first time I went in was to drop off a boot with a broken zipper. I own many shoes because I am a recovered fashion shopaholic, yet nothing in my closet is too expensive. However, I had this pair of Calvin Klein burgundy knew-high boots that I hadn't worn for more than two (2) years because of the zipper on one of them got unaligned. The gentleman told me it was going to be awhile before I could pick it up, for he would be away for a vacation. I understood it and agreed with the condition. He then handed me a red card with the date of drop-off written on it. I thought it was odd since he didn't ask me for a phone number or an e-mail. There wasn't a down payment needed, either. Well, I actually enjoy his honor system. Nowadays you don't see such phenomenon in most business practices much anymore. I wasn't available to pick up the boot, so I had my parents handling this errand. I told my parents that I would pay them back. My dad only asked for a cup of Americano from a local coffeeshop as the compensation. I was perplexed at first and soon realize the repair cost was only $4. That...wasn't bad at all! I also had the handles on a vinyl handbag repaired. Once again, the bag wasn't pricy. I just haven't put this to a good use because two (2) of the handles were loose. When I dropped it off, the gentleman took a brief look and gave me a fair warning that it might not be worth the repair cost. I frowned and became worried immediately. "$15 for the work." Ok, never mind. It wasn't terrible. See ya in a week. The work on the handbag handles were done well. I really wish he could fix zippers on some of my apparel items. We brought a sequin dress with a missing zipper to show him. He turned us away and suggested the dry cleaning person across the street. No, thanks. They wanted to charge us $20 and we determined that it wouldn't justify. I bet there is a good amount of stuff you all own that needs a restoration or facelift in this neighborhood. DO NOT USE!!! Disappointed that when the heel was worn down on my shoes and I went to have them replaced they simply recovered the heel and left it too short for the shoe itself, as is readily visible in the photo attached. Also, the leather they recovered the heel with is a different, coarser grain from the original finer leather, and glue was left visible in the seam, also a distinct enough difference to see in the photo. My beautiful stiletto heel that was an interview splurge is now sad and stumpy and graceless. When I called to complain the business was rude, argumentative, and unwilling to acknowledge much less rectify their poor (and overpriced 40$?!) workmanship.They're welcome to respond to this review however they please, as the proof is in the pictures. read more

I love this little shop. I had to have the cap toe of a shoe re-sewn. He said come back tomorrow morning and it will be done. I expected a week. VERY fast service. He even double stitched both shoes to make sure they hold. Another time I had my wife's purse handle to repair. He made a piece to fix it, then reinforced all four points where the handles attach to the bag. That was done the same day! Great service, quality work, and very fast. It is cash only. read more

The owner of this shop does a very fine job. Not only that, he is very inexpensive. He only charged me six dollars to fix a buckle and redesign a purse wrap. I told him he should charge more. Don't know how he could survive with such low prices. I heard that some people complain about his prices being too high but I'm sure he put in at least an hour or more to do my pieces, and I don't think 6 dollars is too much to ask for. Took 2 pairs of shoes here - my loafers and my wife's heels. Resoled loafers and reattached heel on my wife's shoe, fast and inexpensive. Soles have been coming off the loafers since first wear, even after a return trip. My wife's heel fell off again the first time she wore them. Maybe his glue is expired. I brought two pairs of boots in to be stretched in the instep and width. I did not expect much since I took one of the pairs to another shoe repair place and they came back the same way. I was very pleased when I picked up my boots today as they were stretched perfectly and I can now put them on very easily. It's like having two new pairs of boots that are very comfortable. I told him my husband and I have a pair of shoes and a few boots that need stretching and one soul replacement. He was very cold, short, nasty, edgy, misquoted me back to myself (insisting I used the word plastic when I didn't). He acted completely rude and uninterested in our business. Took in a pair of boots that needed the heels re-wrapped and a new heel "cap". He quoted me $35, took nothing on the day I brought them in, and said they'd be ready in a week. Today it was a week so I stopped by and they were ready and look as good as new. Nicely polished and the heels are fabulous.
