And best part... they do not make me play the usual "Simon Says"...do a thing face covering to enter or get service like other businesses in Winnetka. I had a kinda weird experience here...initially I hadn't even intended on leaving a review until I read one from someone else that rang similar enough to me that I thought i should also raise my hand. I recently stopped into this shop to help me figure out/later the ankle straps on some new sandals I was wearing for a wedding. The trim on the ankle strap was too thick to push through the buckle easily, so I was hoping they could help. The woman thought maybe she could replace the buckle but didn't have any that would work. We played around with the strap a little and were able to get it through but not easily. She said I'd need to be patient, etc., when I explained have a little trouble with my thumb, she said maybe I should get some "shoes I could manage better." On "paper" it doesn't seem so bad, but in the moment, it was very awkward. When I relayed the story to my friends, they couldn't believe it either, and while we agreed the woman was probably being honest, she was a little judgy. A smile goes a long way when you're in customer service. I went to this great guy in Northbrook next to the Ace Hardware. He fixed me up right away & I danced all night in my awesome sandals! I'll go there with all my repairs, so in the end, it all worked out for me! On the upside, they had a sweet looking husky pup behind the counter, so while I had a less than awesome experience, they get an extra star for being dog friendly. read more

I've been going to Michael for ALL of my shoe repairs, for years. Frankly, I can't think of Anything he's not been able to repair perfectly! In fact, I JUST had a pair of evening shoes dyed to match a gown for our daughters wedding, and the dye did not completely take in all areas. Unfortunately, I didn't see the "errors" until after I left; I called the shop and was given not only an explanation as to Why the dye did not 'take" in certain areas - even better, a solution to correct the problem. I'm on my way back in now, confident that the solution will be even more beautiful than the original work - minus the "fabric errors." Having grown up in an era where taking pride in our work was a lifelong commitment, Michael continues that philosophy every day. Brought my winter boots in for soles. Really like these boots but was reluctant to spend for repair just a bit less than I paid for them originally. Glad I had it done. These soles are more substantial than the originals and the uppers are still in great shape. First class job! read more

For a mom and pop shop, you sort of expect the customer service to be dicey or dated. But not this place - impeccable service. Had a couple pairs of dress shoes conditioned and shined with new heels put on. Within about 4 hours, got an email that they were completed. They were each done very well and the price was reasonable. The downtown shine shops may be cheaper, but all they do is put an exterior shine on the shoes. read more

When Louis Vuitton wanted $90 and 6 weeks to fix a strap on my purse that is essentially nothing more than a leather shoelace, I said no. I had it repaired here for $15 in 3 days. I've also brought in shoes and been very pleased with prices and the work. This husband and wife team are fantastic. Highly recommended. read more

GO ELSEWHERE! I have never left a Yelp review in my life but I felt compelled to because of how awful this place is. I brought in a pair of studded Chloe boots in perfect condition to be stretched and when I received them back, one of the main studs was missing - from the same part that I had asked to have stretched. I called and was very polite, and the woman immediately went on to vehemently deny she had anything to do with it - before even looking! She said, in an incredibly demeaning tone, "Evidently you didn't notice the stud was missing before you came in the store," when really the reason I did not "notice" a stud missing is because the stud WAS NOT missing. I am very disappointed in how both people I encountered at this store have conducted themselves, as I returned to the store not long after first retrieving my shoes to ask for help replacing the stud. The man, I assume "Michael" brought out a stud that was a completely different toned yellow gold and 5 times the size of the other stud. When I said, "I don't know..." he replied, "Oh, you're going to be fussy about this?" He pretended he did not remember me and said it would cost money. I walked right out of there. Not only was his solution for me to spend more money to fix a mistake THEY made, but calling someone fussy for expecting their items to be returned to them in quality condition is extremely condescending and unprofessional. Now I have to ship them all the way to NJ for repair on my dime. Will not be returning EVER! WORST PEOPLE AND HORRIBLE BUSINESS! *Edit: This man's response says all you need to know about how they handle business here: unprofessional, deflective, and immature. Your refusal to admit fault for something you are entirely responsible for is deplorable. Who on earth would put in the effort to write this review if you were NOT at fault here? Disgusting. The wife/husband owner duo are very rude and unfriendly. I will NEVER use this place again. When I have reluctantly used them in the past, because it is so close to where I live, they have often found ridiculous reasons why they CANNOT fix my shoe. Last week, after a long hiatus, I decided to give them another chance. The light in the window was out, and it is hard to park on Green Bay with all the traffic, so after I parked, I went back to my car thinking the store was closed (they have odd hours) and then noticed after I pulled out that the store was indeed open. So, I parked again. When I went in, I POLITELY and HELPFULLY mentioned to the wife that the light was out and that it was therefore hard to tell whether the store was open. She IGNORED me and, when I followed up, she was totally rude about it and claimed the light had NEVER worked! Oh well...go to the guy around the corner on Tower next to Girlfriends Nail Boutique. read more
