The owner transformed a 5 year old, heavily worn leather shoe boot into a brand new pair of boots. They have a wood heel which had worn down due a severely deteriorated sole. He used a wood filler to build the heel back up, restained the heel to match, replaced the sole and even put new insoles in (also had severely worn down) - all for less than the cost of replacing them. This man is a fraud and really should be reported to the business bureau. I came by in December and I needed a purse strap to match my leather handbag and he never got back to me after several phone calls and stopping by the store (3 times). Each time, he had an excuse why it was not made or would try to give me a very poor quality purse strap that was not made of leather and did not match the color of the leather, which I gave him a sample of. I should have not given him the $100 deposit given to him in good faith, because he is not to be trusted. read more

Alert the Vatican, bc the lovely people at Mariny's performed a miracle. I had bought some gorgeous (and stupidly expensive) leather oxfords for my wedding in October. I needed to break them in, so I decided to wear them to a friend's bachelorette party a few weeks ago (we are all fully vaccinated and it was safe). Well, when one hasn't been out drinking in over a year, a bachelorette party is a helluva way to start. I have no idea how many shots there were, but what I do know is that I must've tripped and fallen on concrete, bc I awoke to the annihilated toes of my beautiful shoes (see pic 1). I frantically googled for a cobbler/shoe repair shop that could mitigate the damage. The shoes were never going to be perfect again, but I was hoping they could fix them well enough for me to wear them in public. Enter Mariny's. They told me not to worry, that anything was possible and to give them 1 week. And man oh man, did they deliver (see pic 2). The shoes are not 100% perfect, but unless someone is going to get on the ground and lick the toe of my shoe, they'll never know I damaged them. The price of my miracle? A mere $40 dollars. My fiancée not murdering me for ruining my wedding shoes? Priceless. I couldn't be happier with the work and to have my shoes looking gorgeous again. TERRIBLE! The 5 star reviews must be ones he purchased...........I have been to the shop 5 TIMES to have elastic replaced on house slippers -- STILL they aren't repaired! I'm back to wearing them with safety pins to hold them on as I was doing before bring them in to be repaired...........He machine stitched them closed - too tight - instead of replacing the elastic as I asked and he agreed to do. The stitches ripped open in a few days. I texted the owner and sent photos. His answer? "Bring them in, I can't tell by these photos." Watch out for this Business This IS NOT the place to go in Chicago for fine mens dress shoe work. A nail was over-hammered completely through the welt, and it pierced the upper. Glue was haphazardly spilled on both uppers. The sole protectors were attached unevenly, weren't recessed, and there is residual glue showing on the soles as well. Turnaround time for the job was a week and a half. When I showed up to collect, the shoes were not worked on yet, and were misplaced in the shop. This guy ended up doing a 15-minute rush job even though he had my shoes for over a week. You can get this service properly done elsewhere for less than $60. And they won't ruin your shoes. I won't be coming back. This place really pulled a fast one on me. read more

This business does quality work. I've come to him a couple of times for services on my boots. During my most recent visit, I brought him some brand new boots that I had recently gotten in the mail. I loved them so much, but one of the boots would not zip all of the way up in my calf area (one of calves is larger than the other). He spent time with me to determine how much space would be needed and he gave me a quote. The boot was ready in a week. I've gone to mariny's 4 years ago to have some shoes repainted and they did a wonderful job. I was very happy to know they made it through the pandemic and I wanted to support them. I have a pair of heels that needed the heel tips replaced for an important event a week later. Called and asked how long it would take, they said no more than 15 minutes/first come first serve. I bring them in on Monday and they tell me they need until FRIDAY. I was a little annoyed, but accepted it, as I needed the shoes. The wonderful lady guaranteed me Friday at 5pm they'll be ready. Paid $200 to get the shoes repaired and another pair of shoes repainted. Well, here comes Friday, I go to pick up the shoes and the lady says they are not ready. You can imagine my frustration, and I asked if I could have my shoes back because I need them for my event. It takes her and two other employees over 10 minutes to locate them - and I'm just pissed at this point. They are nice people - but this was unacceptable for the price I paid; she did refund me for other pair though, and that's why I'm not giving this one star. read more

Fantastic extensive leather repair and customer service. I dropped off some $400 leather men's dress shoes with damaged leather from cat scratches. Kicking myself for not getting a before picture. The owner patiently explained my options, and we decided on replacing the one panel on the outer side of the left shoe. He also repaired some damage to the front and resoled them without any pressure, option to glue it back on, too. Prices were fair, and had them back in a few days. The new panel color isn't exactly perfect, but it's really close, definitely couldn't see these under some dress pants and at night. We're extremely happy to not have to buy a new pair of leather dress shoes and break them in time for all the summer weddings! read more

Yes, I used to get all my designer shoes repaired here for years because of the ratings and friendliness and they did OK (glue is obvious in my burberrys) work. I had a pair of vintage Prada loafers done that I left for (obviously too long and I know that's my fault) 7 months since it was winter/ I wasn't going into the office and found the ticket of repair and then remembered about them. I went to Mariny's for shoe stretching, as I had a pair of new leather shoes that were way too tight on me and caused a lot of pain. I was so happy to hear that I could have them stretched in 1/4 inch increments until they fit better, as I was unsure how much stretching I'd need. I went to Mariny's 3 different times, getting to try to them on each time and ask for a little more stretching. I was encouraged to be honest about my thoughts on the fit, and was not made to feel bad about requesting more stretching. Service truly went above and beyond, and I could not recommend Mariny's more. I was only charged a $20 flat fee, and they not only stretched my shoe at the toe area and widened the fit, they even added grips to the heel area because I mentioned that the shoes slipped out when I'd walk. I had a wonderful experience at Mariny's! I bought a pair of really nice leather boots that showed up with a busted zipper. I wanted to make sure that wherever I brought them could repair them well and make them look good as new (they were brand new, after all!). I reached out to Mariny's over Yelp and got a quick response and quote, and decided to bring my boots in the next day. I left them there for about four days, and when I picked them up they looked PERFECT. You couldn't tell a difference between the right and left boot--both of their zippers were identical and in great shape--and he had also conditioned and waterproofed the boots for me. Be careful and look at the postage-size receipt for your shoes before you walk out. I took two pairs of shoes in for some work and the woman working there said the cost would be $50, and that she would require immediate payment. Luckily my husband had cash and so we paid. When I returned a week later to pick up my shoes the man behind the counter said I owed him $50. I said I had paid in full in cash. He showed me a receipt (I think it was my receipt but I had never looked at the original one) which did not show my payment but instead said I owed money. I told him I had already paid. He showed me a different receipt that showed someone had left a deposit and said mine was different. I insisted that I had already paid and he stopped arguing with me. One really interesting point: "my" receipt was written in red ink and all the other receipts on the counter were in black ink. Hmmmm. The work on one of the shoes was ok, but the other pair had a couple of spots that were heavily covered with shoe polish and did not look good. Wonderful little couple taking care of business over here. Was leaving town in one week, needed my boots resoled and treated. Mariny said he'd have it done in 3 days. Sure enough, he called me up the day he said they'd be done. I picked them up and put em' on right there in the store. Mariny's goes above and beyond. These are 4 year old Chippewa boots that I have not done the best to take care of. Walking out of the shop with the work they had done, felt like I both had a new pair of shoes and I was walking in something I've known for years. I brought in a pair of doc marten sandals that didn't seem salvageable and were too big on me. I bought them on depop and was extremely disappointed in how they came in. At first I called another shoe repair shop but the guy who answered was extremely rude, LUCKILY, I called Mariny's right after and he was so much nicer. I came in and he told me he was able to fix my sandals AND make them smaller to fit me better. He told me anything was possible. Part of the fun of being a Local Guide is I get to share positive experiences I've had with locally owned private mom and pop stores like Marinys shoe repair. I had purchased these gorgeous, fur vintage boots in December from a vintage shop in Wicker Park. The boots seemed to be in pristine condition but after just three uses in the snow the soles on both feet tore away completely from the body of my boots. I had taken it back to the store owner and he said he'd have it glued back for me but upon reuse after a week the soles completely fell apart again. I received a ridiculously high priced quote from a different shoe repair business and they told me it could never be completely repaired and would be a waste of my money. When I called the owner here he was super friendly and encouraged me to bring in my boots from Tecnica. He said the boots were probably bear fur and definitely worth saving. He quoted me a fair price of $75 and explained it would take a week and he would carefully remove the old glue before attempting to repair the soles. These boots lasted me through our brutal Chicago winter season and I'm sure if the soles eventually fall apart in the future the owner here will happily give me the same excellent service. He and his wife are extremely friendly to their customers and now I'm going to keep coming back here for future shoe and boot repairs as needed. read more
