Online coupon states one price for smog, arrived and got a guy with an attitude who tells me the coupon is invalid because it was for a 'regular' smog and not for a Star smog station test. Got undeserved criticism for my aftermarket catalytic converter (original got stolen but replacement is FULL CARB compliant) and failed the test (my fault - not due to the catalytic converter) I paid sixty dollars for my Yelp one star experience at Tony's Smog and was told a retest is twenty five dollars additional. Lesson learned. I'd rather pay for a new smog test (and I did) to smog my car elsewhere, anywhere else, rather than to go back to Tony's Smog. The place was completely empty--no customers, just me and my car. I handed the technician my registration and even moved my car into the garage for him because he didn't know how to shift it. After signing the paperwork and agreeing to the fee, he started the process but came back a few minutes later to say he couldn't complete the smog check. His reasoning kept changing: first, he claimed I had the wrong catalytic converter, then said he couldn't read the part number, and finally, that he couldn't find the number at all. Which is it? These are three completely different excuses. I explained that the catalytic converter was purchased from a well-known, state-compliant company and double-checked by my mechanic during installation. I even offered to show him the receipt and call the company's customer service to help locate the etched part number he needed. Despite all this, he refused to look at my purchase order, call the company, or even lift the car to search for the number himself. His refusal to perform basic checks, even with my assistance and solutions, was baffling. Smog checks are a critical part of ensuring vehicles meet California compliance standards, and it's literally his job to inspect parts. Instead, he wasted my time with excuses and a complete lack of effort. This technician seemed inexperienced, unprofessional, and unwilling to do what's necessary to complete the service. If he doesn't know how to inspect parts, he shouldn't be running a smog check business. I do not recommend this place to anyone who values their time or wants a professional experience.
