First off, I love cooking. I'm a foodie at heart. When I first moved to South Florida 2 years ago,…read moreI found Culinary Convenience on Yelp and was very curious. And it's OPEN TO THE PUBLIC!!!! Not just for chefs. Yayyyyyy. Fast forward to 2021 and I had asked my chef friend for a recommendation on a place to get my Henckels knife set sharpened. He immediately suggested Culinary Convenience and told me to ask for Aaron Michaels who is the owner. Well, this convo was about 6 month ago as I slacked and never made it here. I had to drop someone off to Ft. Lauderdale Airport and was heading to a local coffee shop when I drove by this store and remembered the name and realized it was the chef supply store I've been dying to visit. Funny how things work. It's a cool store with dreamy chef and kitchen toys galore. I swear I took about an hour just strolling through the store taking my sweet time admiring everything. They have EVERYTHING!!! Chef's uniforms, shoes, aprons, bakeware, pots, pans, knives, serving dishes, the small stuff, the big stuff...just EVERYTHING! I asked questions and started talking with Allison. She was very friendly and helpful. I was mesmerized by the Breville Smoking Gun and have been eyeing this for years now. I really want one. The one they had at the store is a professional grade one, not like the one you see at Williams-Sonoma or Sur la Table. She noticed I was curious and asked if I wanted to see a demonstration. Heck yes!!! She showed me step by step how to use it and it was ridiculously cool. Yes, I still want one!!! Ha. I inquired about knife sharpening and got more info on that. I also started looking at the Japanese knives as I've been wanting a really nice Japanese chef's knife too. They had a beautiful selection of gorgeous knives. I've been wanting a Damascus style Japanese knife. Allison helped me by answering all my questions. She pulled out the MIyabi and Kikuichi knives. The Miyabi caught my eye. I love the design and simplicity. It's a sexy AF knife!!! They didn't have the Miyabi chef's knife I wanted but said they were currently on order. A gentleman who noticed I was having a hard time deciding on the knives told me the Miyabi is a wonderful option and introduced himself as Aaron, the owner. I said hi and told him the story of my friend who initially sent me here. Aaron knew exactly who I was talking about. We started chatting about our mutual friend, the hospitality industry, how he started his business and a funny story about his brother. Aaron has a very enthusiastic vibe and energy about him. I love his excitement when he talks about things. He was down to earth and so fun. He even pulled out his phone to take a selfie of us to send to our mutual friend. Funny too because I was thinking about doing the same thing. Haha. Needless to say, I really had a wonderful experience at Culinary Convenience and I may end up spending too much money here. I eventually came back because Allison called me the next day to let me know the knife I wanted arrived after I left the store. I came back a few days later and bought the said beautiful sexy AF Miyabi Japanese knife. And brought my knives in to get sharpened too. I also met Kieran, the store manager, who was also very helpful regarding my knives that needed sharpening. Bottom line, excellent spot for all your kitchen needs. Be careful, you might go browsing and leave with a gorgeous Japanese knife. Haha. It's not a terrible thing either. I'm madly in love with my knife. Huge difference even cutting veggies and herbs. Go check it out ASAP! You won't regret it. Thanks Aaron, Allison and Kieran for the amazing customer service. I need to come back for that Breville Smoking Gun, because everyone needs one of those right?

Apparently the person at the shop explained that the method he uses would cause scratching on the blades. For that transparency I am grateful though I do not understand why a knife sharpening company would continue to use a method that damages knives so drastically. When we picked them up, the knives were sharp, but scratched beyond anything I've ever seen. It looks like a bench grinder was used to sharpen them. I spoke with someone at the shop who explained that all commercial knife sharpening companies do that and that it was normal which I don't believe is true. I have contacted the manufacturers of the knives in order to see if they can be repaired but most likely they and the heirlooms will remain permanently damaged. It was $600 worth of knives not counting the value of the heirlooms and the price for sharpening them was $49. Think twice before bringing valuable knives to be sharpened here. An article I started on a knife sharpening forum about whether this is normal https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/kitchen-knives-damaged-by-commercial-sharpener.1571937/#post-18011883 Alex, I appreciate you writing. The pictures should speak for themselves and give future customers an idea of what they will get when they bring knives to you to be sharpened. The manufacturers would have sharpened them properly for less than you charged so yes I made a mistake not sending these knives in to them. As I said before, I appreciate your transparency with my wife about the scratches. If I had been there I never would have let you do this. The knives are as sharp as i get my machetes with my bench grinder which is to say that yes they are sharp but the edges are no longer straight and I doubt they will stay sharp long. After doing research I discovered different companies use different tools and methods for a similar price. Maybe it's time to look into using a different method? I honestly can't believe you've been doing this to good knives for 50 years.

I hired Dimark, and was not disappointed! They responded to my request and gave a range to quote. If I would have been available, they would've taken care of it same day. We scheduled a few days later, and Marlon was here on time, and assessed the issue almost immediately. The garage door opener is working, perfect, and he did maintenance on the door itself as well. The door would not stay up on its own when manually opened, but he took care of that, and replaced the rubber seal at the bottom of the door, as well as adjusted all the hinges and pulleys. Price was within the range as well. Excellent service, and very fast. I highly recommend.

He checked everything over and I was relieved to hear that I didn't need a new garage door opener, just a tune up and maintenance. I really appreciated the fact that Marlon was honest and didn't try to upsell me a new opener. He and his Dad were very professional and friendly, and his fees were reasonable. This company is a keeper for sure.
