Do not get your fillings here!!! I came in to get 3 composite fillings on the left side of my jaw. For the next month, I was unable to chew on my left side without extreme pain! I scheduled a follow-up and the dentist and he re-polished the fillings. On my way out, the front desk staff said in passing that if my fillings were still giving me pain, I'd have to get a root canal!! I was horrified-- I wasn't in any pain before I got these fillings. To my dismay, my fillings were still causing me extreme pain. I got a second opinion elsewhere and had to get ALL 3 FILLINGS redone. I guess the fillings never fully bonded to my teeth because they POPPED OFF. 3 new fillings later, my teeth are fine (no root canal needed!) and I can finally chew on my left side again. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Trinh for a couple of years now. Apart from being thorough and detailed in his examination and giving good care he is also a great human being. My insurance was not sure whether they can cover deep cleaning and were giving mixed messages. Dr. Trinh determined that I needed deep cleaning and said that he will just charge me $50 for a procedure that will otherwise take $500. He was fine to do this just for $50 in case my insurance does not cover it. I have never seen anyone not charge the fees for their service or give such a steep discount. Anyway, thanks to Dr. Trinh for his thorough job and he is definitely going to be my dentist for any dental things that I need. And shoutout to her assistant DT for doing a great job following up with insurance, having very good knowledge of the procedures and making the appointments very easy and seamless. I have been with Dr. Trinh and his staff for over 10 years. They are very on time with appointment. They would call if I am more than 3 mins laye. I came in for dental appointment with my wife. The receptionist was busy chatting so she didnt acknowledge my presence and checked someone else in before me. I reminded her about my appointment that was 15 mins ago and she started to lecture me about how I should get better dental insurance next year or they may drop me because of low reimbursement. After 30 mins waiting, I asked and she said the dentist got an emergency dental case so it would be another 30 mins wait time, or I can come back tomorrow. Dr Trin is the best dentist I have ever met. He saved my tooth when I had a cavity fall out. I was lucky to find him in downtown San Jose and get an appointment right away. He is very honest and professional. He also takes care of my daughter's teeth and he always tells us the truth about her condition. This is an unprofessional and borderline noncompliant practice. The dentist is ok but his office manager has a disturbing influence over patient treatment. My experience: Visit 1: a non-employee performed my x rays (as their dental hygienist job interview). Not knowing the equipment, they had to redo most images. They were not hired. Visit 2: the front deskperson (office manager) stepped in to assist with my filling while the dental assistant took an extended bathroom break. They repeatedly handed the dentist the wrong equipment and materials and the filling did not set properly. As I left, the office manager thought it would be a good time to upsell me on a $400 deep clean. Visit 3: Experiencing sharp pain after the filling, I went back to the office against my better judgment. After examining my tooth, Dr. Trinh recommended a fluoride treatment. Once again, the office manager came in for an upsell - this time for the costlier fluoride. On my way out, the office manager made it clear they would not treat the tooth further if the pain continued and suggested I might need a root canal since they drilled so close to the nerve. ~6 months later, the tooth is still sensitive and I can't chew on that side of my mouth without significant pain. As a patient, you understand that a positive patient experience is not promised, however, you expect basic medical norms to be observed. Unfortunately, Dr. Trinh's office views compliance and medical standards as optional and involves people who are either not employees or medical professionals in care without thinking twice. read more

I had my first appointment with Dr. Trinh and it was good! He was direct and explained everything in a way that I can comprehend. He took x-rays and was able to show me what was going on with my teeth and helped me to understand why I needed to make certain decisions (getting my two bottom wisdom teeth taken out because they're pushing on my other teeth and food is getting stuck). Then I got my teeth cleaned and did something else for my wisdom teeth. I totally forgot her name (I'm sorry!) but the receptionist was nice as well. She gave me a sheet which showed me which teeth I needed to get fillings on (because I also have cavities, don't judge me for neglecting my teeth! :)) and which wisdom teeth were going to be taken out. It also showed the prices for the different options I had (the silver or clear filling for cavities) and how much it would cost with or without insurance. So it was easy to understand everything and what was going to be going on. I also had a lot of questions about getting my wisdom teeth taken out and what happens after and the receptionist was able to sense the anxiety I had about it so she answered my questions and reassured me that it just depends on how my body decides to recover and it won't be as bad as I think it will be. So I came out of it knowing what I need to do with my teeth, taking next steps, and moving forward with taking care of my teeth. :) Plus I got a little kit that has a toothbrush, mini toothpaste and mini floss. I felt really nervous about getting my top wisdom teeth taken out, but he actually spent more time explaining what he was going to do than he did on the actual tooth extraction. It felt like they were out in less than 3 minutes, and there was barely any pain afterwards; I only needed to take Tylenol for the first two days and there was no pain at all after that! The dental hygienist Phuong does the cleaning, and she too is very kind and explains the procedure before putting anything into your mouth. Their front desk staff is stellar. Susana neatly laid all my financial options before me and patiently explained the pros and cons of various choices. She is knowledgeable of the dental terms and procedures, and even showed me first hand how to floss properly. This office accepts Medi-Cal as an insurance option. Just got my dental approved and was refereed here. Everyone is so friendly here. Its a clean office and very organized. As soon as I walked in for my 3 o'clock appointment I was shown to my seat and they got on checking my teeth out right away. They play great music and also have a television right above you to watch while u get your teeth done! How sweet is that! I was nervous but Dr.Trinh explained all my options and procedures perfectly. Went in to get a cleaning and he found a cavity. Cool... but when filling he said he didnt want to numb me up too much because it was so late. He did a fast job BUT... That was the most painful filling i ever had. Its been over two weeks and I still cant sleep at night due to the pain from the injection site of the shot to numb me up. Pain is constant and unrelenting. Injection site is swollen and there is now puss coming from it. I went back to check it our before the pus developed and was told just to use pain relievers, it will go away. Currently, my throat hurts, the side of my face hurts, toung hurts, cold sweats... i'm a mess. Can't eat and getting sick from all the pain relievers i am taking. Time for a second opinion and a new dentist... The results... new dentist showed me that the filling which was done was way to close to the root and some bacteria or old material must have been left and then covered up. This material then seeps through natural small divits in the tooth and hit the root. Because it was covered and sealed, the only place for the evil to travel is under and around the tooth... thus the swelling and puss. Good explanation and great drawings to help. Time to call my insurance company to let them know that the filling that was done caused the need for a root canal at a new dentist. Now the filling is going to be removed and tooth repaired correctly. Not gonna bad mouth the business and just let my experience speak for itself. Now I regret the fast job he did, would have saved me $1,850.00 to do it right the first time. read more

My idea of a children's dentist has always been different than what I see at Dr. Trinh's. What I appreciate is that my daughter and I get to see her x-rays which keeps it very interesting for her. Anyways, I will not come here anymore and I definitely would not recommend this place to my friends and family...well maybe to people I hate since this place charges extra fees or recommend this place to people who have a lot of cash to blow for unnecessary dental work. ALSO, THE DENTIST SAID I HAD 4 CAVITIES AND HAD TO PAY 175.00 OUT OF POCKET FOR MY COPAYMENT. GUESS WHAT????? AFTER MY SECOND OPINION WITH ANOTHER DENTIST, IT WAS FOUND I ONLY HAVE ONE CAVITY!!!!!!!!!!!!! OH, AND MY COPAYMENT WAS WAIVED THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!!! When I was laid off last year, I paid for my cleanings out of pocket; I paid 59.00 at one place and then 79.00 at another. After my cleaning here, I was charged 79.00 in extra fees! I mean geez, that's what insurance is for right? I mean, my insurance covered 100% of preventative, but what the hell were those extra fees for? I might as well have paid out of pocket at Edenvale Dental where they only charged me 59.00 for xrays, cleaning, and evaluatation! What got me pissed off was they charged me 35.00 for fluoride! The dental hygenist asked, "Do you want fluoride?" I said sure, thinking it was part of the cleaning and not know ing it would cost me 35.00 extra. What she should have said was,"WOULD YOU LIKE TO SURPRISINGLY BE BILLED 35.00 FOR FLUORIDE YOU CAN BY FOR 5 DOLLARS AT WALMART?" Also, they took colored photos of my teeth and that cost an additional 44.00! After talking with Frances, she was kind enough to waive the fluoride fee. I asked for my xrays to take to another dentist for a second opinion. Now that I think of it as I am typing this review, they only gave me the xrays and not those other pictures they charged me an extra 44.00 for. What a rip! Okay, okay, I think it's fair I should say something nice about this place at least. I'll recommend this place to anyone who likes their insurance being taken advantage of and spending money on stuff they probably dont need....I mean, read the other review a person (David D) left on this dentist about how he felt this place likes to take maximum advantage of his insurance. I was trying to get my teeth cleaned but the first thing they did was X-ray my teeth. I asked if it was covered and they said yes. A month later I get a bill for 258 dollars from them. They actually had the audacity to charge me 55 dollars for the disgusting fluoride they said was part of the teeth cleaning. They may be all smiles, while they are knifing you in the back. I am new to the area and was looking for a dentist after a 2 year lapse in care. I found Dr Trinh and his staff extremely professional, knowledgeable and personable. To start, his receptionists were all quick and had done my insurance processing based on my phone info- so there was hardly any waiting time in the lobby. The office itself is just like a traditional dentists office, but has amazing new technology! Cameras that let you see the teeth and immediate x-rays you can see. The cleaning was thorough and my teeth felt great afterwards. I really noticed them paying attention to the small details, like putting vaseline on my lips so they didn't dry out and giving my jaw a break. Also- they are great with insurance. They can tell you specifically what is and isn't covered, what you pay out of pocket and will work around your specific needs. I would definitely recommend Dr Trinh and his staff as your dentist. So I have to say, after another visit in which I had some fillings replaced and Dr. Trinh got a chance to work on my teeth, that this is by far the friendliest, most considerate dental office I've been to! I also forgot to mention in my last review the little things that are nice - such as having a hot towel to wipe my face after a cleaning. I like the music, the friendliness of all of the staff, and how comfortable I was made to feel. Dr. Trinh was nice, efficient, and professional. I barely felt a thing when he gave me the anesthesia for the drilling. I'm really happy with how my fillings look and they're comfortable. It's such a relief to have my teeth fixed! Definitely one of my most positive dental experiences. As for cost: I think it's important to keep in mind that whether it's your doctor, pharmacy, or dentist that they don't determine the co-pay or fees. Your insurance does. If your insurance charges you a certain percentage, then that's what they're obligated to charge you and it's unreasonable to assume that it'll be automatically waived for everyone. That's not how healthcare works in this country. Whether or not your dental care is 100%, 50%, or 0% covered is not their fault. In my experience, the office was really straightforward and upfront with my insurance. And like I said in my last review, Frances even went the extra mile when I was about to lose coverage and made sure that a) I would be covered b) that I would get an appointment in before it was gone and c) didn't pressure me to make more appointments beyond some concerned warnings about getting my fillings fixed. That's not a pushy, over-charging dental office. I feel like the staff here really care about their patients and want them to get the best work done. He' super patient and nice and don't even mention his super skillful treatment. I've been to Dr. Trinh for 2 yrs and have him fixed 12 of my tooth + 3 wisdom tooth removal + 1 root-kennel . So trust me, I definitely have enough experience to post this comment. As you can imagine, I hate to go visit Dentist as it usually comes with pain and uncomfortable experience (coz I have bad tooth and it makes my visit even worse). I was nervous the first time I visited Dr. Trinh and the moment he told me i had around 8 tooth to fix I almost jumped out of the chair (since my last time check in with other Dr. was 3 yrs ago). However, he explained to me very detail on what options did I have and what's the recommended plan and how fast should I fixed them. At the end of the conversation, I felt much more comfortable and have faith in it. Hence, it started my 2 yrs journey. I am no-pain tolerance type. So I can tell you that , yeah, he somehow can make the tooth fixing painless. He's very delicate and very very good at his work. I have 2 front tooth got fixed by Dr. Trinh, my friend cannot tell where the fixed part is at all! Not only Dr. Trinh is awesome, I will say all the staff are amazing. They also have wonderful tooth cleaning professional (Phong), who helps me twice a year and also keep improving my gum health. Also super super friendly staff Frances (always being so sweet and helpful), which makes ur visit a happy memory. And another credit add is that they are very honest and flexible. They always try to work with me on my budget and recommend me on how to use the FSA account. Also, guess what, they contact me proactively to let me know the overpayment from my previous visit and give the $ back to me. I've no idea on the credit until they told me and handed me the check. I am sooo glad to visit Dr. Trinh 2 yrs ago and I will definitely continue to visit him for regular check up as I have good tooth now. Can't thank him enough for saving my tooth.
