She attempted to deny they ignored new customer calls and attempted to tell me they did not answer the existing customer line. The attempt to gaslight was amazing like I dreamed the calls Saturday. But before he left he asked me again, and you're sure you're the home owner? This time right in front of the other contractors working in the home and everyone just looked at him like that's fucked up dude. Shortly after the guy leaves another guy called me who could've been the owner and says that they aren't taking the job. When I asked why, he said his guy that just left said he didn't feel comfortable doing the job. And I said what, why? He said it doesn't matter my guy doesn't feel comfortable doing the job so we're not and you need to find someone else and then hung up. I waited a couple of days for them to come out and then wasted all that time doing the walk through, I felt I was owed an explanation. But of course never got one. So I figured this racist white man couldn't believe that a black man could own such a nice house and didn't believe that I did so much so, he didn't feel comfortable doing the work. Definitely a sticker-shock moment. Furthermore, this was the only amount shown to me on the technician's iPad, and the amount I signed for (reluctantly). At no time was I told: - How much coolant was being added - The cost per pound I find it unacceptable that such an expensive service was performed without a single written or verbal quote in advance. The technician did an excellent job executing his upsell pitch, offering a long and urgent list of recommended repairs and upgrades--ultimately leading to a suggestion that I should replace both units entirely. While I understand maintenance work often reveals other issues, this kind of high-pressure upselling without clear pricing only compounds my concern. -- Charge for "Star Member" Program - Additional $360 After the technician left, I received an email invoice showing a new total of $1,188, which now includes a $360 charge for a 'Star Member' maintenance plan. While I expressed interest in a year long maintenance agreement over the phone when I set this appointment, I never: - Signed any document agreeing to it - Authorized the charge in any form Adding this to my invoice after the fact--when I only signed for the $828 refrigerant work--is a serious overstep. I have a similar story to many of these reviews - found these guys randomly, after being screwed by…read moremy own installer (long-time maintainer, too) and another company, as I was trying to hunt down someone trustworthy to take care of the immediate, but also future issues. They took care of my immediate AC issue, couple of years back. My original guys left us sweltering. One other smaller company didn't diagnose the issue properly, and AC was down again in a day or two. I happened on this company, and the AC has worked great for years, since. This year, my 12+ year old outside condenser had several issues which cascaded into breaking down totally. Bad cap and a very tired motor started melting wires in the relay. The condenser probably needs to be replaced altogether, eventually, but Vince saved me the cost of a new car (this is a 5-ton unit), for now, by repairing everything. And, including the time to run out to pick up the proper motor, he was done and we were back up within 2 hours. Amazing. And, now I can start a savings account for a new unit in a few years, hehheh. It matters. Their communication is perfect. Courteous, from the get-go. But, if you're technically-inclined, like me, also explains everything thoroughly so that you will feel very comfortable about your decision, if you have one to make. I would like to speak to those reviews complaining about price comparison. I think we all know that you generally are going to "get what you pay for", and tend to ignore those unless there are tons of them with details about shady people, right. (Which there are not, here.) But, another thing to consider, is that these guys are so dang great at what they do, they are in and out in record time. That means a lower cost [to you] on the labor side of things. I'm perfectly ok if they tend to choose higher-quality parts that cost a bit more. The guy knows his stuff and is aiming to not have to return for the job.
