Mr. Tae and his staff performed a timing belt service on a Honda Ridgeline I had just purchased. The work was done in a very timely and professional manner. Before the work started my vehicle was driven and a diagnostic and road test were performed. I suppose you could call this a post buyers inspection. Mr. Tae explained to me some needed work that I would need in the future. He also advised of one thing he would not be concerned with at this time ( no unnecessary up selling). Honest mechanic and clear communication. My AC wasn't working and I took my car to the dealer - they gave me the diagnosis and quoted me over $1000. I took it to Japanese auto who diagnosed something different and more simple. Cost: around $300. My dealer had also mentioned an issue with my back break, Top Japanese said there is no issue. FINALLY! I have located a LEGIT and HONEST auto shop that will handle your car with care all while providing excellent customer service! TJAS is a great auto shop that I frequently use for my Toyota Camry! I've had to deal with car issues over the years, but I never hesitate to give TJAS a call and ask to bring it in. Tae is the best when it comes to customer service and he is very knowledgeable about cars and his team will fix any minor and major issue you may have. I had to get my rear brakes fixed and new muffler installed because I had failed my inspection/emissions tests over those two things. I spoke with Tae over yelp before commiting and going through with it and I must say he was very accomodating and helpful, he didn't beat around the bush when it came to my questions, he was very straight forward and made the whole process easy. After getting the car returned to me I usually double check the work done on my car and it was excellent. I've been to other mechanic shops that charge you an arm and a leg for similar work(except the other shops always did a horrible job) but the price is more than fair for the kind of quality work you'd be getting at Top Japanese Auto, definitely worth it. read more

Don't be fooled by the exterior, this shop is the place to go for any car repairs! Tae is friendly, personable, and professional. This shop has helped me many times and saved me plenty of money. If you are picky about parts or like OEM parts, you can specify that and he will make it a point to get the parts you need. I have had basic oil changes, brakes/rotors, wheel bearings, and headlight bulbs, filters changed here. They are the BEST VALUE and most HONEST mechanics I know, he will not recommend unnecessary repairs to you. Tae will take the time to explain why work needs to be done and give you different options. My go-to. Look at all these 5-star reviews - normally that would be sus but Top Japanese Auto is the real deal. Their prices are low too. One time he quoted a price range over the phone for installing a specific item, and the final price actually was the minimum of that range. Imagine that, an estimate range that actually comes out slightly high. Another time, someone dented our bumper and all he did was kick it and the big dent popped inside out and looked good as new. I mean he could have easily said we needed a new bumper and we wouldn't have known any better. Also not bad with scheduling and being able to squeeze you in when possible. Two thumbs up! read more

Honest, very helpful and understanding. The manager (I think), took time out of a very booked up day to give me a quote on a repair I thought was urgent. I was right there & heard him call around to try to get me the best price on the parts I needed. I couldn't really afford the replacement parts, and he didn't try to pressure me. In fact, he told me it probably wasn't as urgent as I thought. I can't afford it now, but when I can, will definitely be back. While I was there, I also overheard him talking to another customer. He told the customer it was better to not repair something minor that had happened to his car, based on the cost to benefit comparison. I think he could have convinced us both to get work done on our cars, but he chose not to do that. Instead he suggested what was best for us, even though it meant less business for him. I cannot say enough good things about Top Japanese Auto in Falls Church. We first brought two cars in for brake pads/new brakes. They fixed the breaks quickly and the cost was VERY reasonable. Then, yesterday my daughter noticed a thumping/grinding noise in the engine of one of our cars. It was very loud. Brought the car in to have it looked at - turns out a tree branch was stuck close to one of the rotors making the noise. They removed the tree branch and the noise is gone. Did not charge me at all for the diagnosis and fix. AMAZING!!! The relief on my daughter's was also priceless. THANK YOU SO MUCH - this is now our permanent go to for any car issues. Tae is the best. I went in like 6 months ago to replace a cracked sideview mirror. I'd failed a safety inspection done by the (dealer who tried to hustle me, telling me it wouldn't pass unless the mirror housing was fixed too.) They quoted me some ridiculous price, so I went to Tae. they don't do inspections there, but right off the bat, Tae was like..."you don't have to get the housing fixed to pass the safety, just the glass" Fixed it and saved me some money, and handled my inspection through one of their partners. He could've tried upselling me and been shady, but he didn't. After a week and half at the Pohanka Lexus and $800 later for work that I did NOT need, my original problem was still unadressed. Brought it in for work on the wheels and brakes. When I go to pick it up they decided to tack on a bunch of unauthorized worked. I had to argue with the guy to take out a $40 air filter that I didn't ask for, $10 installation charge. The worst though was a $5 charge to fill my washer fluid and $5 for the fluid. When reviewing an auto shop it's important to address that you have to be clear in what service you're requiring. As such, Mr. Kim and his shop is exactly what you would expect from what it looks like. There is a close team of 3/4 employees that have lots of hands on experience. The facility is not the prettiest or most accommodating but it does get the job done. My advice for high end cars with lots of special needs...this is not the shop for you. Going to a dealership or a particular body shop with specific know how is prolly better. However with that being said if you are looking for broader needs (oil change, tire rotation, break pad replacement, etc.) then this shop will do much cheaper than most shops. Unfortunately, had to bring my rating down. They're good if you tell them what to fix and the prices are good. But, I had an oil change there recently and about two weeks later I had a headlight burn out (not related and not their fault). I was going to change it myself but I couldn't get the hood open. When I brought it in they said I would have to have a part replaced that they replaced 2-3 years ago. The cost would have been less than $100 but my last few times there, I'm inevitably back within a week due to some other problem and spending more money. Not only that, but there was a part near the hood latch that was broken that was not previously (not an important part). I'm pretty frustrated with the place so I just left and took the car to another shop I trust nearby just to get the bulb changed and the car evaluated to check it's overall condition. Turned out, the hood cable was detached and they fixed it for free (and changed the bulb for free)--I'm not accusing Top Japanese of purposely detaching the hood cable but they were the last ones that had the hood open and it's pretty hard for something like that to randomly detach so they inadvertently did something. I also paid less to have the whole car checked out at the other place for what I would have spent to change a part that didn't need changed. I'm just kind of done with Top Japanese so I don't see myself going back unless I know exactly know the work I want completed. read more
