I like this place because the service is normally friendly and responsive. I have never had to wait more than a couple minutes when I have gone in. The experience is pretty standard for most nail chop shops, but they clean their tools in an autoclave and they also clean the filters in their spas, which is also a plus. I have seen some bad infections come out of nail salons, so that is important to me. I went in before a ball to get my nails done. I had Holly and she was FABULOUS! She talked to me about getting the Shellac on my nails but I didn't want the damage that comes after you are done with the shellac. She told me that if I was hard on my nails that it would be hard to keep my nails nice for an event. She didn't pressure me about the shellac and did tell me that the French Manicure I wanted would be more expensive, so I appreciate her being up front about it. For those of you who are not familiar with Shellac or gel nails, it is similar to getting acrylic nails in the sense that it is equally hard to remove it afterward and it will damage your natural nail. However, it will be a gorgeous manicure for about 3 weeks. To make a long story longer, in an effort to make my mani last, Holly slapped on around 6 coats of a number of things (primer, base coat, 2 coats of white tips, etc. etc.). It worked and my mani was beautiful for almost an entire week! They also do a nice exfoliation and massage with the manis and pedis. Thanks so much, Holly! I went back last week for a pedi and I can't say the same nice things about the gal since she cut my nails way too short before I could even tell her to just file them down. Her language barrier definitely got in the way of my experience and she hurt my toe. The water was also volcanic hot and I had to initiate her cooling off the water as she never checked in with me. I will definitely go back, but I am asking for Holly or Mary from here on out. That way, I know I will have a great experience. read more

I didn't look at the yelp reviews on this place until after my pedicure. Everything mentioned on here was addressed. The bowl was clean and I saw them clean it after I was done. A broken chair was reset after a customer said it wasn't working. I did have REALLY hot water and although I asked for it to be cooler, nothing happened when she adjusted it. Overall it was a fine experience and since I get pedicures so infrequently I'll probably be back in a pinch. They did offer a manicure a few times and asked about my eyebrows, but didn't pressure me into getting either one. read more

Eyebrows were done so quickly that I was skeptical that she did a good job, but in the horrible lighting in the back room in the mirror they looked okay. I get home and I was right, plenty of stray hairs that she should have gotten. Not to mention asking if I want upper lip or sideburns waxed.. I need neither!! This is my favorite place. I have known the owner Charlie for 28 years and he has a great staff! If you are lucky you will get a pedicure from his daughter Susan who works there. I always bring friends here and out-of-town guests. I could not think of it cleaner, nicer place to go then Top Nails. Service: Awesome. I've never had to wait for anything. I walk in and BAM, I'm getting my nails done. A word of warning, these ladies are CHAMPIONS of the upsell. They will talk you into gel polish, decorations, eyebrow waxing and everything in between. My pedicures have been awesome! Long massages, and my nails always look really good. Cleanliness: Gross! Even though the service and prices are good, I wouldn't go back to this salon if it weren't the most convenient for me BECAUSE IT IS NASTY. I was so scared the first time I got a manicure there because there was acrylic dust all over the station and the tools looked dirty. Since then, I've seen them clean the tools but I think they could do a better job. *disclaimer* the only reason I gave them one star is because zero wasn't an option. Also, I would like to say, the person who did my eyebrows always does a good job. My complaint is about my nails, you know, what they're sign, "Top Nail," says they're supposed to be good at. Well, I got my acrylic nails taken off and the woman asked if I wanted a manicure after they were taken off. I said no and she said okay and then preceded to wrap my nails in acetone saturated cotton balls and covered that with tin foil. First, the acetone flowed from the cotton ball and into my hand, resulting in a chemical burn on my hand. Secondly, her "finished product" left part of the acrylic still on my nails and filed it into my real nail and left my real nail torn apart. Bottom line, go there for eyebrows, not for nails. read more

I have always been a fan of top nails and feel like their gel lasts a long time but I will NEVER go back to this one. I had a man do my manicure and it was absolutely horrible. He would not listen to me at all. When I told him I would like to just leave I felt like he was keeping me hostage and begging me to stay but then would turn around and be incredibly rude again. It was clear he just wanted my money and did not care whether I was satisfied or not. I got a French manicure and the tips were thick, globs. When I told him I didn't like that he threw his utensils on the table and huffed. He would ask me if I liked the lines of the French when he was done with a nail, but then he wouldn't listen to how I actually like it and continued on doing it the way I had asked him not too. When he got done my nails were left abnormally thick with polish on the sides that he refused to file down. Another girl in the salon actually came over and filed the sides down for me. This was by far the worst manicure I have ever received in my entire life. I never complain about manicures and am always easy going but the way he treated me is no ok and he was so disrespectful. read more

Not going back. My nails were all chipped 24 hours after my manicure, and I did not have to do anything for that to happen!! I had to remove the polish the next day because it peeled completely from my nails. This place is horrible!!! I came to get a relaxing pedi. We don't live on the area so we stopped here. My pedicure lasted 10 minutes, she massaged only one leg and sanitation here is horrifying. They have a inch of dust on the toilet. Being a cosmetologist, I cannot understand how they haven't been shut down. I refused to pay but the best they could offer was 20% off. Had my nails redone at the Pro Top nails and wanted to go back for a peddy but I didn't have time on Friday so I went to Top Nails. They were busy because Monterey High was having prom the following day but I got a seat at the peddy bar within 10 or so minutes... Pretty happy with my spa pedicure and enjoyed the short (wished it was longer) sea scrub rub (that was slipped in for $5 and last a couple minutes) that my lady recommended. Holy upsale! So I went in for a well needed pedicure as I round my 5th month of pregnancy and can't reach the toes like I used to. I just wanted to sit and relax and have my feet polished. But the lady spent the whole time trying to tack on services. Everyt ime I closed my eyes "$5 I give you a longer massage", "$8 more I do your nails" "let me paint a flower for a few dollars more"....the list went on and on. (I finally snapped and said "look I budgeted the amount I did for the pedicure and I just want the one I requested") So when I realized she wasn't going to let me just relax I decide to engage her in convo. Asking her how long she has done nails "15 years and I make no money" She SCREAMED, in which I said really $30 for 45 mins of work is a lot better than most people are doing. She kept saying it was nothing. Needless to say while the pedicure was done ok I will NEVER GO BACK. Note to staff some people just want to sit and relax and not have to be sold to the whole time. If I could give no stars I would. The absolute worst service I've ever had. I just wanted a color change of gel. The lady used a sanding thing and I changed my mind that I just wanted to stick with regular polish... I'm trying to grow my nails out and sanding my nail bed down is not what I wanted to do. After asking me literally 12 times if I wanted to cut my cuticles( No I just want a color change!!!!!!!STOP asking me!!) I ended up leaving with uneven polish on scratched up nails. This is a tough one. I have been here on and off for a few years. I like the location and most of the employees are sweet. They do up sell but I am ok with that. My issue is, although my nails look great I seem to get nicked about 4-5 times, so now I have half of my fingers with super sore cuticles with one that got infected. The place isn't very clean, got cut twice while my acrylics were done, and they finished with little white bubbles. The lady doing my nails got up and left to wax someone twice in the middle of my manicure. She was also very distracted by the huge TV next to us. To top off all the bad service, my nails popped off within three days as I was reaching for my phone in my pocket. I didn't ever hit my nail or done anything to it that should've weakened it. Ive never had acrylics come off in three days. The rest of the nails came off within a week, it was ridiculous. Don't go here, its a waste of time and money. I have been here once before reading the reviews and had a great experience. Loved the way she did my nails very thorough and the way I wanted. Even after reading the reviews I decided to go back for a gel manicure and pedicure. They attended me right away and with excellent service! Super and was sure that I liked the color I picked and when I didn't she changed it without being rude or annoyed. After leaving I ruined 2 of my toes on each foot and called if I could go back to get them fixed. I offered to pay for it but they fixed it free of charge! Standard salon and nail job. The first time I went the lady told me about the polish she was using and said it would stay on for a long time. She actually never told me there was an extra charge for it. I am used to higher prices for pedicures so I didn't think twice when it was $40.00. The woman also REALLY pushed extra services. She told me I needed to get my mails done and it was only $X extra. I didn't have time and kept telling her I don't think I'll have time I have to go. I went a second time and I called ahead to ask what the price is for a pedicure. $25.00. I went this time and they did the same thing. Make sure you ask if there is a charge for options they give you because they will ask if you want x or x but won't tell you it is extra. They make it sound like an option that is part of your pedicure. So bottom line, question everything if offered options (which you will be) and be ready to say no no no no to extras. Know the prices before you sit down and make sure you are not being charged extra. read more

I asked for a regular manicure and the manicurist was relentless in trying to upsell me to do a gel manicure no matter how many times I told her no thank you. She blew through my manicure and was not very good. I started noticing how dirty everything was while I sat there getting my nails done. When I was drying my nails I just sat there and was grossed out by how dirty it was everywhere. I don't know if there are any regulations for salons but this one would not pass. Came in after work got a gel manicure and regular pedicure and the lady who did my pedicure shaped my toenails really nice she took her time, was careful, and same with the woman who did my hands she didn't hurt me she cut them exactly how I wanted them, they look good she was friendly and so was the woman who did my toes, by accident after I left I hit my left big toe with something and she was understanding and able to redo it and she did we had nice conversation she was funny and I'm definitely coming back. I would not recommend this place at all for waxing. I went in one time to get my brows done and the almost waxed them all the way off, like almost no brow left and I didn't ask for that. Giving them the benefit of the doubt, I gave them another chance and went back a second time...BIG MISTAKE. They did better on my brows but this time I got a rash above my eyebrows which I assume is from a lack of cleaning the products used. I don't have sensitive skin and I've been getting my brows waxed for years and I've NEVER had this happen. I don't know how well they do nails but I definitely won't be back for waxing. read more

I was traveling and walked in. Charlie treated me like a regular and did a fantastic job on my nails (acrylic with gel polish). He was also very funny and pleasant with me and with everyone. Okay the guy there is very nice. I got my first gel/ acrylic manicure here. The young girl who did them rushed and they looked horrible. The acrylic was so uneven you could tell from a distance. She didn't even smooth down with the electric file, just threw it on there! You could also still see my real nail at the base of the cuticle. It was a nightmare.
