Where do I even start. Top Rate Moving is a scam. They will verbally promise things they don't intend to deliver on. We relocated from Chicago to Louisville and was told our van would be there next day. When we called for an update they did not have one and it wasn't until 5 days later they called to tell us they were arriving that day. Furniture was damaged and dirty when arrived. When moving out the movers left large holes in our walls and damaged the door frame. We ended up paying almost 3x the original estimate for a absolutely horrible and stressful moving experience. read more

They called to pick up my stuff a day early with only two hours' notice. They called to tell me they'd drop off my stuff with only a day's notice. I said that the time wouldn't work very well for me. They said my only option was to pay thousands of dollars to get a different date. Then my stuff was 18 hours late anyway. The mover asked if I lived with a man, how much my apartment cost, and if my laptop was the newest model. Not great. read more

Top Rate moving is about as far away from Top Rate as you are going to get. After I had booked them and had my things picked up, their Better Business Bureau credential was revoked! They picked up my items two hours late at 8:30 at night. They charged me about $600 extra saying that I had more items than I listed on the estimate. They delivered my things three weeks after they picked them up. When I called after two weeks, I was told that it "hadn't been that long" and that they were still "working on it". The customer service was awful and not customer friendly at all. If you are unhappy, they really don't care and try to argue with you about why you are wrong and they are right. Do yourself a big favor and keep looking for movers. read more

This moving company is absolutely dreadful. I moved my son from the Midwest to FL. The movers came almost 5 hours late at 9:30 PM. What moving company picks up after 9 PM? The movers were extremely difficult. The move was done through a broker (also at fault here) called Alliance Moving. They too are awful business people. My son's furniture, etc. came one full month after it was picked up! He slept on the floor for a month cause his bed was in the truck. Both companies refused to return calls, promised days as it "Oh, it will be delivered next week on Tuesday or Wednesday"....then nothing. This went on and on. This company should be avoided at all costs....never deal with them. Several pieces shipped were damaged, the dispatcher was rude on the call, one unit that I had previously shipped across the country to my son was shattered to pieces as if the box had been kicked around a soccer field for hours. I am talking about a 3-tiered glass TV stand - plus a TV they this company insisted in wrapping themselves was damaged. The other two TVs that my son wrapped were fine. Pretty frightening. I deal with the same company for moving my agency around NYC and my home on 3 separate occasions "FLATRATE" and they were amazing and kind and always stuck to their commitments. There is no reason for Top Rate Moving to be in business, none whatsoever!!! read more

They finally called back but refused to let me speak to the owner just the lady who was clearly part of the scam. The only thing she did was argue with me to prove her point and never offered any solution. At the very least the lack of any level of customer service is enough to stay away. read more

They lost my $600 smart TV. Then they lied about the estimated time for delivery. I called them repeatedly and they did not give me any idea of when i would receive my stuff. They charged me $50 extra to wrap the night stand with duct tape for safety and it was broken at delivery. There were some items missing from the night stand as well. After weeks of waiting, finally the driver called me just one hour before delivering my items; when i told him that i was at work, he literally threatened to leave my stuff on the street unattended or cost me $500 for every extra hour that i needed storage! They will not reimburse for the lost items I would not recommend this service to anyone read more

Moving via this company was absolutely atrocious! We were originally told that we could expect our items to be delivered next day. This was pushed back to within a week, before we were told we could expect our items to be delivered within 21 business days. We received a call the day before our stuff was going to be delivered (instead of the two days we were told initially) Our stuff was actually delivered after roughly three weeks. When we did get our stuff, several items were damaged and our dining table was not delivered with the rest of our things. I still can't fathom how anybody loses a table. The items that were damaged were likely damaged when they were unloaded (or reloaded) from the truck to a storage unit. The claims process has been nothing short of frustrating, with the company having 120 days to review and respond to the claim. When inquiring about the state of a claim the answer is pretty much, "your claim is in review" and no real indication of the state of the claim or when an offer might be expected. Their self descriptions of professionalism, speed, courtesy, and reliability are laughable at best. Instead, The descriptors I would use to characterize my experience would be odious, amateur, clumsy, and disregard. I wouldn't refer my worst enemy to this company. read more

I am more than angry with this company. When I received my quote I was told that this company was apart of charter Van lines. 1st they told me they would be there on Thursday to pick up and made me stay two extra nights in KY. Then I waited for nearly 2.5 weeks for my stuff to be delivered. Then I get a call yesterday oh you got to have someone at your house between 9 am and 11 am for delivery. People work! Fortunately my husband could take half day to wait for delivery. They didn't come until Noon! And when they left the furniture wasn't put back together and they left trash all over my floor. The tape on the furniture could damage the furniture. In one of my boxes a lamp was broken. I wouldn't recommend this company to anyone. They suck, they are rude, they don't care about you or your stuff. read more

This move was a TERRIBLE experience. We moved from FL to OH and these movers are the WORST!!! First they were 3.5 hours late. I had to change my flight home because they were so late and SLOW! When they finally arrived they accused me of having boxes that weren't on the contract and wanted more $. It took my husband to get involved to get that resolved. Our boxes were clearly listed on the contract. Our things were supposed to arrive 6 days later. It has been 14 days and I'm still waiting for my things!!!!!! They are supposed to be here today, but I haven't heard from anyone in 3 days! I took work off today, hoping that they show up. I wish I could give them 0 stars! The cherry on top. When you call with concerns NO ONE cares! How this company is still in business is a shock to me. Beware!!!!!! I just talked to the company. My furniture has yet to leave Florida. Horrible,Horrible, Horrible.. They initially will give you a quote stating a general estimate. But when the actual guy who comes and move you home furniture will demand twice as much saying it was an estimate. Even though you list out every thing. The guy who came to move will try to negotiate for every item and make your move that much difficult. Also they do not deliver on time. I had to wait over a week with out any thing in my new apartment. They agreed to deliver to the address given and then wanted to charge extra. It was nightmare. Hired this company to move from FL to MD. They quoted $3,000 and ended up paying $6,000. Because I would not tip prior to loading they charged me $750 in packing supplies that I did not ask for (while he was extra wrapping things - he told me not to worry because his sister worked in the office). They requested I go buy them some lunch and drinks; which they left the trash and chicken bones thrown all around. They tore a whole in the linoleum flooring trying to drag the washer. It took 10 days in delays and daily phone calls to get delivered. Many items were broken (washing machine glass, mirrors, book shelf, etc. They showed up to deliver the whole house with a total of 2 people! (the second guy did not even work for the company - he said they picked him up in DC) My husband had to help them carry furniture up the stairs. They refused to take the packing supplies, trash and boxes because I would not pay them an additional $300. Buyer beware - they marked every item as scratched when they loaded. Worst company ever. I have filed a claim but with such a scam of a company, I do not expect much. read more

This company has no consideration for your time or expenses. I had to call daily to confirm a move for that weekend. Each day I was told to call the next afternoon. Move delivery was not confirmed until a Friday for a Sunday or Monday delivery. Extremely frustrating when you have to plan time off work. I had a TERRIBLE experience with this company! Stay far, far away! They came 3 hours late to pick up my belongings and charged me $556 in extra packing materials (apparently they think it's reasonable to charge $29/cardboard box even though I already had all of my belongings packed up in my own boxes). They confirmed they would be delivering it on Sunday, so I drove 7 hours to the drop off location only to have them come a day and a half late. It would have been one thing had they called to tell me they would need to reschedule my drop-off time, but every time I called them they would tell me, "oh, it will just be another few hours, we're dropping it off today." We ended up sleeping on the floor that night and they didn't deliver it until 3:00 pm the next day even though they promised they would have it as soon as 11:00 am. When they finally did deliver my stuff, my tv was completely cracked and they were super shady about filing a claim with it. I'm still working on trying to get compensated for this. read more

WARNING!!!! Do not use this company. I'm in the middle of the move and everything I'm reading is happening to me now. Very rude once your items are on the truck. They told me Aug. 1-3 for delivery. Now say maybe 21 or more days to get my things. Tried to get more money out of me immediately on sq/cu/ft. This has been a nightmare. They lie on every aspect of this move. There is a reason they won't take credit cards, only cash/M.O. I don't expect them to show up to delivery my items. FYI, a majority of these companies will do the same thing. Call the police if they are requesting more $ at delivery. That is extortion. read more

If you enjoy stress, paying more than your estimate, and having a long wait to receive your shipment- this company is for you! The Good: The actual moving crews at both ends of my move were pleasant, efficient, and professional. My belongings did eventually arrive and at first glance they seem to be decent shape. The Bad: After loading the truck they said that I had about 170 more cubic feet than was listed on the estimate and that the charges would be an additional $600. When I explained that I would have to put it on a credit card they asked me how much cash I could pay. I told them that I only had about $200 on me and they said "ok, we can work with that as long as it's in cash". I paid them and off went the truck with my belongings. The Ugly: At the time of pick-up I provided a first available date for delivery of June 3rd. Their paperwork said that a move of my length usually takes about 5-8 days. They proceeded to hold my shipment in a warehouse for the next 6 weeks. Anytime I would call to inquire about when I could expect my delivery I was curtly told "we have 21 business days to deliver before we have to give you a discount". Finally, on July 6th (after sleeping on an air mattress and living out of a suitcase for over a month) I was told that they would be delivering on either July 7th or July 8th. On the 7th the driver called me to say that he would be out of the 10th so I arranged to be off work on the 10th. The morning of the 10th I called the office and was told that they would be out that afternoon. At 4:30pm I called the office again and I was told "your driver is running a little behind schedule he will be there between 6-8". At 7:30pm the driver called me to say he would be out the next day- which was when I finally received my shipment. Throughout this entire process I had to constantly try to stay on top of the ladies in the office as their communication and customer service skills are severely lacking. My advice? Stay away from "Top Rate" moving. Stay far, far away. read more

These guys were so awesome. They worked not stop and carefully packed all my items. They never complained even after having to go to the 2nd and 3rd floor of the new place. They were great and the price was reasonable. I highly recommend this crew. You will not be sorry! read more

Run, don't walk away from this company. Just about everything arrived broken, especially the items THEY packaged, large TV, furniture, lamps and more. Many boxes I packed were soaked with water including wedding pictures! Almost $1000 in damaged items and insurance was a complete joke reimbursing me $64 total, with wasting my time of hours of preparing insurance forms, sending pictures, manuals, postage, copies and notarizing forms costs over $20 and they took 7 months to resolve! They are NOT BBB accredited regardless of what their website shows. Packers insisted I tip them almost to the point of a threat. Delivery cost more than quoted, will NEVER use again OR recommend. I would have fared better to trash everything they moved and just bought new stuff. read more

Horrible. Received a call three days before they were supposed to pick up my belongings that they needed to come the next day (two days earlier than scheduled which was to be on a Saturday), so I had to take a day off work to be there when they came to load up my stuff. I had no idea they were going to charge me an extra $100 to wrap each piece of furniture, so my estimate was way off from what I am actually paying them. I was told my stuff would be delivered to my new address on 4/9 almost two weeks after initial pick up. I waited all day on the 9th for them to show up and they never did. I tried calling the office but received no answer because of course they do not work weekends. I called the next day and was transferred about 5 times because no one knew what they were doing and was finally told that my stuff would be delivered on 4/13. Again, no call, no delivery. I called the office again and was told they would look into it and would call me back. An hour later, no callback, so I called them and was once again transferred, put on hold, even hung up on once. I was finally told that the delivery would be made on Easter Sunday. I waited all morning and most of the afternoon and did not receive a phone call. At 3pm, the driver called to tell me he would be in the area that evening. At 7pm, I texted the driver to see if this would actually be happening and he said he was running late and would be there shortly. At 9pm, he called and said he could be there at 10pm. There was no way I was going to allow strangers into my house at 10pm. I am not a truck stop and there are rules against making a bunch of noise after 10pm. I told him he would need to come back in the morning. He said he would be there at 8am Monday. So again, I waited and received a call at 9am, saying he was fueling and having breakfast. I like to have breakfast too, but I do so before I am scheduled to be somewhere. At 9:30, they finally showed up to delivery my things. So far, I have found 14 things that are broken, a lot of it is irreplaceable. All of the boxes looked like they had been crushed so it is no surprise that a lot of things were broken. I don't know how they managed to break heavy, brass wall sconces, but they found a way. Altogether a horrible experience. So unless you have all the time in the world to be screwed around and don't mind sleeping on the floor for a week and having a bunch of your stuff broken, then by all means, hire these people. read more

Worst experience of our lives, they were a week late, arrived in the middle of the night, did not know squat about re-assembling furniture, AND they lost our stuff. The actual moving guys seemed to know what they were doing. No one else did. I was told I'd get my stuff by July 2nd (4 days after they picked it up) and it didn't arrive for another 2 weeks. They probably lied to get the business, as they were contracted through Assurance Van Lines. The Assurance folks (who I realize may have been the ones lying to get the business, but they did drop the price a lot, so I'm guessing it was actually Top Rate Moving lying to them) said Top Rate Moving had a convenient route scheduled from Lexington to Kansas City and their dispatcher really wanted my business because my route was directly on the way. Then, Top Rate Moving, after picking up my stuff in Kentucky, turned around and shipped my stuff East to Georgia, held it in a warehouse and then shipped it West to me in Missouri -- ridiculous. Plus, they lost my table and damaged my underbed drawers. For weeks, they couldn't give me any idea of when I'd get my stuff, until I got a call the day before from the driver. All of this actually did mess with real-life travel plans too, and I still don't have a kitchen table, more than a month after they picked up my stuff -- they just lost it. If they just didn't lose my table, I wouldn't have even written this review, despite all the other things here. The only redeeming thing is the guys who actually picked up and dropped off my stuff were on their game, very attentive and had a mix of an experienced guy (fluent in English) and two really hardworking newer guys (not fluent, but worked hard to communicate with me despite that, which I greatly appreciated). I suspect the offloading and reloading at their Georgia warehouse was not done by these guys, causing the damage and the loss of my table. They do pick up their phone for customer service, but their hours are limited only to work-day during the week, so not very convenient if you work. They also put you on hold forever and a day after you call in. The biggest issue is when they do pick up, they still don't have any way to solve your problem and can't provide any information. I seriously never write negative reviews like this, but this experience has been sufficiently awful for me to do so. If they fully reimburse me for the table or deliver it to me, I'll post a better review or update this one. Still, if you have the choice, don't use Top Rate Moving and don't book through Assurance Van Lines either. read more

A whole star was as low as I could select, it didn't even rate 1. If you want to have your moving cost lowballed and not find out until it's too late and charged an additional $2,000 on moving day TRM is for you. I spent 45 min. Going through our house while Tina prepared an estimate. Come to find out, everything was not placed on the inventory list, our lawn tractor was listed as a push mower. We were told an 18 wheeler would pick our belongings up, not so, a 26' box truck came & wasn't able to get everything. We had to rent a Uhaul to take the rest for another $1,800. We were asked what day we wanted everything delivered which as it turned out to be the first day of their 3 wk delivery time, which was yelled at me by the dispatcher. I asked to speak to the owner, newer called. Customer service is a joke!!! If you want the WORST moving experience of your life "TOP RATE MOVING" is the one for you. read more

If I could put 0 stars I would - This was by far the most horrible service experience I have had in all aspects. Countless items were damaged. Our house was damaged. The only person that answers the phone (Ashley) is the rudest, most frustrating, demeaning person I have ever spoken to. And she offers info@toprate and a reporting method for her terrible service. First, we were told moving cost would be based on weight, and rather it was charged to cubic square feet (which for us was over $1500 difference). The movers completely chipped/scratched our stairs, and I was told "stuff happens" by Ashley. This issue was never mitigated. We were told to wire extra money via bank for cubic square feet costs, the wrong amount was given twice so that was 3 trips to the bank, stuff won't be released for shipping until done. Ashley told me that I seemed like I had a problem, that I was weird, that I don't know what's going on, and that this is my problem and then hung up. When you speak with her on the phone, she will minimum put you on hold mid sentence 5 times per conversation. Our stuff was late. WORST of all, when our stuff arrived most of it was damaged. We received boxes with loose framed art, glass, clothing, sewing machine, candles, instruments, valuable Buddha heads, all thrown in loose in a wardrobe box. Damaged, and the box was immovable. After looking at 10+ different moving companies, I chose Top Rate Moving because they had good pricing and the people from the company who I spoke with on the phone seemed competent and trustworthy. Unfortunately my moving experience was not a good one. The company is not an all-out scam but they are dishonest and will try to get more money from you in any way they can. The movers who showed up to my apartment were friendly and worked quickly...a little too quickly. They put stickers on each item that you have and write it down on an inventory list, but on more than one item I had to stop the movers to point out that they did not put a sticker on it as they were taking it out the door. Not sure what would have happened to my items had I not caught this. My second complaint regards a mirror I was having them move. I had sufficiently wrapped the mirror up in bubble wrap, but the foreman said it was not acceptable and he would not take it unless he charged me an additional $66 for supplies and work to wrap the mirror. I kid you not the "supplies" consisted of a flimsy piece of cardboard maybe a quarter of an inch thick. Thats it. And he said he wanted to put 2 of these on to secure the mirror. I refused and then he said he wouldn't take it, so after arguing he eventually agreed to only do one piece of cardboard. My third complaint regards the delivery. Before the movers would unload my items they said I had to pay an additional $75 for an "elevator fee." Funny that when I received my quote there was no mention of this fee. The quote that Top Rate emails you even has a section specifying what is included and NOT included in your quote...is there anything about and elevator fee there? No there is not. I got on the phone and called the company to express my concerns but they were indifferent. They repeatedly pointed out that on one of the many pages of documents I signed on pickup there was written something about the elevator fee. And yes, this was my mistake for not reading every word thoroughly, but also realize, what if I had refused this fee on pickup? Then they would not have moved my apartment. And its not like you can just cancel your movers the day of and hire someone new that day. Yes, technically I signed a paper consenting to the elevator fee, but I was extremely disappointed that a company I trusted had no interest in doing the right thing. They knew they got me with a hidden fee and they didn't care. So congrats, Top Rate, you screwed over another customer to get the money you were looking for in a very dishonest way. I will not be referring you to any friends who ask me about you. read more

Avoid this company at all cost. Charged for "extra weight" and additional gas cost on arrival, @$600 dollars payable in cash or money order only before they would deliver even though everything had been itemized on the quote, told my son he would have to leave immediately because instead of delivering the next day per quote they were going to deliver that evening. He drove from Michigan to Ohio, @4 1/2 hour drive, to be there before the office for his apartment complex closed because he had not gotten a key yet, they charged an additional days rent. They arrived, unloaded and in the process destroyed a night stand and damaged a wooden wheel on an antique dresser. Even though they charged him extra they did not bring items that were on the original estimate (bicycle, 2 window air conditioners, rug, lawn mower, 3 bookcases, 2 table lamps). After this before leaving they asked for a tip because they had been working so hard. The next week I had to take a day off work, rent a minivan, and take my sons car too so we could haul everything they had left behind. All calls placed were useless, even told one time the person I needed to talk to was in restroom...never called back. The only reason I gave them one star was there no lower rating to give, would have preferred a negative number. read more
