Shady tactics, privacy concerns, and customer service issues. I had a truck bed drawer (TruckVault) installed by Chuck at Top This. I planned on having him install a camper as well but backed out. After the installation, I discovered they had filmed my vehicle to market the business without my permission. It's a custom vehicle, very sought after, that I'd customized myself, and had to be made to order by Dodge. I'd intended to commercially use my vehicle at overlanding and outdoor shows. Top This made a several minutes long video review of my vehicle, without my knowledge, and posted it online to their Facebook page and others eventually getting seen by around 50,000 people. On the day of install, I spoke to Chuck to see if they could do the installation and told him I was in a hurry to meet family at the coast, a four hour drive. He said they could and quoted me 1.5 hours to do the install of the TruckVault, which left plenty of time to get to the coast. It took over 3 hours. Chuck stated it took longer because they were "extremely busy" that day and had "fit me in last minute". Afterwards, I had wondered what took so long since the installation should be quick and easy, and they quoted 1.5 hours, and I was the only person in their waiting room. Later, I found out that some of the extra time I'd waited was time they were completing a video review of my vehicle, all without telling me or getting my consent. About a week after the install, friends of mine see a vehicle "just like yours" on TruckVault's Facebook page which I thought was strange since my vehicle is custom with a unique design, none of the design is stock, and to my knowledge unique. Imagine how surprised I was to find it actually was my vehicle and was being used for marketing Top This! It was a video Top This had shared publicly on their Facebook page featuring Chuck himself narrating it and pushed to a number of his vendors pages. When I spoke to Chuck about my concerns he said he couldn't understand why I was upset and refused to make it right for delaying me while he filmed my vehicle. I asked for refund of the labor charges to make up my additional wait or he could pay whatever was customary price for marketing, he refused to negotiate. I asked if he made deals with other customers as I'd seen several videos on his site, he said he did, but refused to extend similar marketing refunds back to me. Anyways, if you are looking to do business with Top This be aware your vehicle and property might be posted publicly online and without your knowledge or permission and be used in their company advertisements. If you have a custom vehicle or design be prepared they may use it for their own marketing. They are willing to make you wait while are filming all this too. He also provided enough information to link back on his Facebook page to my own account even indicating I stored "valuable items" in the vehicle, not cool. I did get a full refund of my other purchase with them, a camper shell, I suspect because Chuck knew legal action was potentially forthcoming. If you are a hunter, outdoorsman, designer, business, or private citizen, and concerned with your privacy or designs I'd stay away from Chuck and Top This. The video went on to be viewed by around 50,000 people nationwide including being picked up by a major manufacturer. I've since gotten quotes from a number of other dealers was able to get the same camper shell all for about $500 less than Top This so...shop around. read more

This business offered for sale a used truck cap. Chuck told me it was the right cap for my vehicle. As Chuck was installing the unit, I could clearly see that this cap did not fit my vehicle, and asked him to take a look. After inspecting the obvious misalignment, Chuck resumed the installation. When finished, I again pointed out that the cap was the wrong unit for my vehicle. He agreed and uninstalled it. He then offered to extend his best deal on a new cap if I ordered through him. Later, I called Top This Outfitters to order a new unit. No one returned any of my several calls. Seems to me a poor way of conducting business. read more

I looked from the valley to the foothills for a camper shell for my new Chevy Silverado just to get a feel for the prices in our region and guess what ? Chucks price for my ARE shell was $ 500.00 less than the other dealers !!!! I also ordered a " rack-it " Ladder / cargo rack to mount to the top of the shell . Well the company sent the rack but didn't send the proper mounting hard wear ! So Chuck and his awesome installer got the rack mounted using a different bracket and he said that he would reorder the proper bracket . Well the company kept Jiving Chuck saying they would send it . Meanwhile a year later ! they FINALLY send the parts and Top This installed it in short order . Addendum to below post: I called Chuck on Monday and he kindly offered to have the scrape repaired to make things right. He is setting up an appointment for 12/10 to have my bumper painted. I am very appreciative of how things turned out with Top This. Chuck was very kind throughout the process and helped make a situation that could have been very difficult actually pleasant. Thank you Chuck. I'm so sad today regarding my interaction with Top This. I brought my brand new 2015 vehicle in to have a hitch installed. When I picked up my car there was a large scrape across the front right bumper all the way down to the metal that was not there when I brought it in. Jim denied any involvement in the scrape. Jim apologized but made no attempt at contacting the owner, just gave me their business card and told me to call on Monday if I wanted to talk with him. I'm not sure how to proceed, but am throughly bummed that this turned out as it did. read more

Four years ago I had them install the Air Lift Support bags. One of the supports for my Camper went flat. They replaced it..however i found out from the Company it was under a lifetime warranty. I talked to Chuck about it and they refunded to me the part amount. My first contact with "Top This" was a few months ago when I was looking for a trailer tool box. Although they did not have the particular style I was looking for, salesman "Jim" took the time to look up alternative items in his catalogs, and online database. He was very professional, friendly, and eager to provide me with information. Most recently, after having a very negative experience at "Campway" in Hayward (refer to that rating if interested), I again made contact with Jim at "Top This". I needed the leaking seal/gasket on my camper shell replaced. Jim showed me the available products, and gave me his recommendations, with explanations of them. They were able to make the replacement while I waited. I watched as the technician did the work, and he showed me how a prior gasket had been improperly installed. I was very impressed with the level of customer service provided, and the integrity of this company. They were knowledgable, professional and courteous. I needed a trailer brake installed on my tuck before I purchased a travel trailer from a grass valley native on Craigslist. I spoke with Jim and let him know that I needed it installed the same day as me purchasing the trailer because I was coming from Folsom and I didn't have the time to do it in the morning in my hometown. Jim simply said "no problem, come in at 4:00 today it'll take 30 minutes". I showed up at 3:50 I was on the road at 4:15. Awesome customer service, Fair price, great products. I brought my truck in to have a tow hitch installed. When I went to put a trailer on, the wiring wasn't working. I called and tried to ask them what I should do since I was out of state. They refused to take responsibility and said I was on my own. I ended up paying hundreds to fix this mess. They wouldn't even take responsibility or offer to take a look at their work and make sure it had been done right. They were actually rude.
