I came after recalling that my cousin has previously purchased half a gallon from here about a year ago, and this is the only spot in Alameda that I know of so far that sells milk tea in a gallon/half gallon. My family had a small 10 person party and I did not know if they still sell a gallon/half gallon. I called twice but nobody picked up. When I got to the store to order, I was told that they would not have enough boba for the customers after me or something like that (so they'd have to boil the boba for the next customers quick). I honestly think they could have solved this issue if they picked up the phone so they knew I would be purchasing a gallon order with boba. So, the gallon was $39 and the boba was $7 (from what I remember). When I got the gallon bag and boba, the staff handing it to me did not offer any straws or cups until I asked. She then told me that if I needed more than 10 cups, there was a charge for more cups (I think she said 50 cents or something). I just found it odd they did not offer me the cups, lid, and straw until I asked but maybe she forgot. If I did not remember to ask, my family would have a hard time drinking the boba lol. Other than this, I think the staff was nice since one of them made sure to tell me that the boba isn't good after a day, and the milk tea is good for only 2-3 days in the fridge. The gallon can fill about 6 cups if you filled them fully with milk tea and a scoop of boba. I had to pour some cups 50-80% full as the party kept going at my home. We did not have enough boba and only 6-7 of us had some boba in our drinks. I do wonder if they gave me enough boba and I think maybe they just gave me however much was left in their batch? For $7 of boba, it didn't seem that much to be honest. However, I did like the texture of their boba. It was very good. They put the boba in the boba water when they gave me my order so I think that helped the texture of the boba stay good as I served drinks throughout the party. We got 0% sugar for the oolong milk tea and it was good. All in all, I would come again for a gallon order (but I may buy an extra gallon next time). I think for a party it was worth it so that we can just have boba and chill without carrying ten drinks home. I do hope next time I get more boba than this time (unless that's the usual amount... We randomly came across this place after getting dim sum nearby. The tropical breeze tea was quite delicious; however, the pink dragon was okay because the lychee bits masked all the other flavors unfortunately. Both drinks were adjusted to 50% sugar and they were in the perfect amount of sweetness. We didn't get a chance to try the food. The place has limited indoor and outdoor seatings. The place located in the plaza with a parking section, so it was nice to not have to find street parking. I didn't try this but I think the place is in walking distance to the Crab Cove (ocean view). I got the pink kiss tea, which is basically strawberry green tea with strawberry chunks. It was pretty good but had a tiny bit of the artificial strawberry flavor, which I'm not a huge fan of. Since we drove out to Alameda for a Yelp event last week, decided to look what else was in the area and found this tea shop! My sister and I have always preferred fruity teas over milk teas so it was nice to see a boba shop that offered so many different fruit teas. Many of them are pretty in colors and have fun names too! We tried their dragonfruit tea, guava tea, mango milk tea and a regular milk tea. Overall the fruit teas were really good including the mango milk tea. We ordered drinks 50% sweet because this is usually our standard on sweetness from most boba shops, however here the drinks weren't that sweet and could have gone sweeter or without changing them at all, except the mango milk tea. That one was sweet enough at 50% but I also added mango stars which probably added to the sweetness. I haven't found a guava tea that I really like since the one shop that I loved it at closed, but theirs was really tasty here! This is one of my favorite boba spots. They have good quality tea and the flavor balance is just right. It might be a little pricy ($6 for a premium drink), but it's well worth it in moderation. So I was just craving boba after that boba and dumpling macaron Yelp elite event... I might've gone a bit boba wild here. So many great choices at Top Up! There's a lot of toppings and their lemonades are SUPER pretty!!! Im also a fan of their creamier drinks which are honestly like a guilty pleasure, such as the cocotaro smoothie. Open during COVID-19! So today is my birthday and Top Up always has some type of reward ready and waiting for me. This year it's a Buy One, Get One free deal. I haven't had milk tea since shelter in place began so I decided I'd take advantage of this. I wanted to make sure that they'd still honor the rewards so I messaged the business though Yelp and received a response possibly 2-3 minutes later from the owner! Now that is customer service! He confirmed that I could use it and so I ended up calling the business a few minutes later. When you call in, they'll ask for your name, your order and when you expect to arrive. Talk about efficiency. I ordered my normal, my favorite: C9, Roasted Oolong Tea with Salted Cheese, 25% sweet, no ice with egg pudding. When I walked over from the parking lot (still spaces available but apparently a lot of people going into the hardware store), someone was walking out. Make sure you're wearing your face mask and still practice social/physical distancing. I walked in, gave my name, my order was confirmed, I let them know I was using my reward and then I went to the left and picked up my drinks! Super simple and fast! I've said this many times before, but we need to support these small businesses if we can. Top up is a breath of fresh air to the island's chain boba shops like T4, iTea, etc. The shop was a little hard to spot with all the other stores, and parking was limited on a Saturday afternoon in the little plaza. I ordered a Lychee milk tea with lychee jelly, mango milk tea with mango jelly, and a peach milk tea with boba. All 3 drinks had less ice (25%) and sugar (75%). They gave us way too much ice for 25%... it was almost at 1/3 cup after 45mins (pic for reference). The sugar levels also varied, with the peach milk tea being bland and lychee milk tea being sweet. The drinks tasted dry. I feel like its really overbrewed tea. You know how tea when overbrewed has a dry aftertaste? It tasted like that. The boba consistency was also hard and tasteless; almost like you're chewing a flavorless piece of gum. Overall, I feel like there are better value boba drinks around the island. Top Up is the perfect stop on your way to or from Alameda Beach. It's located at the intersection of Webster & Central inside of the shopping plaza, not easily visible from the street. I'm just not sure which is faster: waiting in line with everyone else or ordering ahead online. I ordered the mango green tea which came with mango stars, mango chunks and chia seeds. It was so delicious and refreshing. My husband got the kawaii which had three layers of colors and came with kiwi popping boba. I really like that the price includes toppings.
