Strawberry milk tea with strawberry fruit jelly
    Sydney J.

I decided to give The Mix a try as one of the new boba shops in Oakland, and ordered the strawberry milk tea, no ice, 25% sweet, with free topping of strawberry jelly. At 25%, it's still mildly sweet and I appreciate the amount of strawberry flavor. I do wish the tea was still slightly stronger but it's not overpowered by milk, thankfully. The drink size is quite large by default. The jelly also added sweetness. Overall I thought it was decent, but unfortunately the drinks are quite expensive.

The Mix is the newest boba kid on the Grand block and we are BLESSED. I've been here two or three times already, with friends, and one as a bulk order for my colleagues (who all loved their drinks)! They aren't doing their soft opening BOGO deals anymore, but you should def stop by if you love boba or want some refreshing drinks as the weather heats up. They have a tiny entrance, not sure if it's WC accessible, but there's a few indoor tables, and contact-less ordering at the machine. The staff is very friendly, I've met a mother/daughter duo and some younger high school or college aged staff. They're all very efficient and make great drinks! Their royal fruit tea is a great refreshing mix of citrus, watermelon and pineapple which is nice on a hot day. Their regular boba milk tea is on the sweeter side (I generally do 0% and even that was too sweet), but toppings are QQ as heck and the milk to tea ratio feels equally down the middle. They have some cool drinks like mango coconut boom which doesn't have boba, but you still get agar and chewy goodness. Textures are on point! And the shop is cute with some insta-worthy backdrops. They're truly the best boba spot right now in Grand area. The next closest spot that I personally enjoy is Tea On in Piedmont, and then Chi Cha in Berkeley (much farther). Welcome to Grand The Mix, hope y'all stay.

I tried The Mix for the first time today and I'm seriously impressed! The drinks are incredibly fresh and flavorful, and I love that they let me fully customize my drink. You can really tell they care about quality. The service is truly 5-stars!!! They used fresh ingredients and made my smoothie perfectly! Sally and Shirley were so friendly, welcoming, and patient, which made the experience even better. The shop itself is clean, bright, and has a great vibe. I highly recommend everyone support this new Bay Area business--you won't be disappointed. I'll definitely be back! Let them know I sent you :)

Great boba spot and a perfect spot to relax and have your favorite drink. My gf ordered the iced latte and I ordered the matcha latte.

Creme Brûlée Strawberry Matcha Milk Tea

Amazing service the two ladies working here were wonderful and provided excellent service. I ordered a Creme Brûlée Strawberry Matcha Milk Tea and it was the perfect amount of sweet and creamy. The interior has a very cozy, comforting vibe. I would recommend this place and I will be returning!!

New Coffee and tea spot on Grand Ave near Grand Theatre. Cozy little coffee bar with beautiful color scheme. Inside seating is limited but they do offer outside seating. We went here on Sunday and ordered a few fruit tea drinks to try. My half sweet Mango fruit tea was pack with fruit, super refreshing and nice tea favor! The kids love their grapefruit and peach versions too. Next time will definitely try their pastry and coffee.

Nothing was overpowering, and everything tasted clean and well-made. What really stood out to me was how fresh everything tasted. I really shouldn't single them out because I've noticed that a lot of the east bay delis have the same type of bread, but I will say that it just wasn't my taste. The rolls (I got the Dutch Crunch, sourdough roll, and the soft roll) were not that great and --like I said-- maybe it's the same vendors everyone uses in the east bay. For the cost, I'm not too enthused to try the other options. Every time I passed by their spot, it's busy, so I figured I'd try it. It's just not for me, but people seem to like it. ‍

I recently developed an allergy to onion and, unfortunately, onion is the only ingredient not listed to remove on the Saint Francis sandwich (on their website). I decided to call to place a pickup order so I could mention the allergy. The man who picked up the phone refused to take an order insisting that I must place my order online. I explained there wasn't the option to remove the ingredient and was worried since I had an allergy. He argued that I was mistaken, and I could edit the order online or order a "build your own sandwich" (without acknowledging the additional cost for such a thing). I mentioned the inaccessibility of such a system and that I truly wasn't seeing the option to remove ingredients. He spent longer arguing with me over the phone than it would have been to take my order over the phone. Eventually, I relented, and placed an online order stating in the "notes to seller" (the only way to edit an order in this case) no onion on the Saint Francis sandwich. There was onion on my sandwich. Maybe instead of believing they need to be right, they should just listen to the customer and try to accommodate.

I have been eating delicious sandwiches from Modigliani Café since it opened. Always so delicious,…read moreand so friendly. But I have to wax poetic for a minute: today I ate the very best pastrami I have ever had. I grew up on the East Coast (as did the proprietor) and I have easily eaten 500 reuben sandwiches in my life (because they are pretty much the very best). This pastrami is absurd. It is thin. It is tender. It is flavorful. It is meaty but not stringy or fatty. It is moist. It is a love letter. It is a sweet whisper. It is goodness through and through. Made into a reuben, this pastrami is divine. I believe the proprietor makes his own thousand island dressing and it is just right. The bread has been pressed and grilled, and is neither tough nor soggy. You taste and feel the cheese, but it does not overwhelm. In short, I am in heaven. The proprietor of Modigliani Café grew up in a family that worked with meat, and he won an award when he was quite young for curing bacon (you can see the certificate on the wall in the shop). So my suspicion is that this pastrami is his creation. And I bet that bacon was the best ever. Pay Modigliani Café a visit. Everything I've ever ordered was delicious. Bring cash because they don't take cards.

I usually order a #2, #7, and #13. It's very affordable, especially if you're on a strict budget for lunch. $7 sandwiches? I mean it's a pretty good deal. #2 Banh Mi Dac Biet/Special Combo Ham Sandwich - If you're looking for a cold italian sandwich but want to explore new options this is a vietnamese version that also has pate butter taking it to the next level. #7 Banh Mi Xiu Mai/Meat Ball & Egg Sandwich - An elevated version of the #3 with an added egg. This was my absolute favorite as a child and still is now. Nice balance of sweet and salty. The meat is tender and with the added egg yolk that pops when you take a bite takes it the next level. I think this is also slept on since I don't see many people ordering it. #13 Banh Mi Xa Xiu/BBQ Pork Sandwich - This is their secret weapon. My god the sweetness from the bbq pork with the pate butter is incredible. I always look forward to eating the bottom end of the sandwich because that's where most of the flavor and butter are hiding. The pickled veggies help give it the acidity it needs for a well balanced bite. By far my favorite. They also have many other options besides banh mi that make and sell on the day of like Banh Cuon, Che, Egg rolls, etc. Definitely give those a try especially the Mochi Ham sandwich aka Banh Day they got there too. I always have a hard time choosing between the #7 & # 13 so I always end up getting both. Service is straight forward, you line up, order, and wait for them to call you up for your order. Simple. You don't have to ask me twice if I want to grab some banh mi here. But do be aware that at certain hours of the day it can get very busy and crowded. Either to super early when opening or closer to closing about an hour before. For new comers, I highly recommend starting off with #7 or #13 for your introduction to their banh mi for a better first time experience.

I bought their chai and lemonade, both were 5 stars, and they offered me their pickle juice electrolyte drink to try. I was skeptical at first, but again they made me a believer. I hate pickle juice and pickle flavored anything in general. Yet, they converted me once again when they offered me a sample of their pickle-aid. It tasted like a mild tasting plain Gatorade. If I were still training for a marathon, I would totally buy this! Back to their amazing sandwiches. They are made with such care, dusting every sandwich that's made to order with their secret spices while toasting the meat and bread. The slaw was fresh and herbaceous.
